Re: s/o Handbags: Coach
Wouldn't they be knock offs? Those seem to be more popular then the real ones.
I'd much rather carry my Coach signature line bag than ever carry a Louis Vuitton bag. I wasn't allowed to carry Coach as a teenager and I certainly could never afford one. I bought my first Coach bag at 21 and I still carry it today. I just recently purchased my second one a couple weeks ago. I love them.
I bought my first one about 10 years ago and have loved them since. I also prefer the leather over the signature line. They have fantastic customer service and have always stood by their product. I've had issues with 2 bags and they promptly fixed/replaced them. With just reading the vintage Gucci post above I feel more confident in my coach because theyve never told me that I should just buy a new one.
However - I despise the coach outlet. I can spot an outlet bag a mile away, much like fakes. You can occasionally get lucky and find a quality retail bag there but I stay away from the 'made for the outlet' ones. And I'm loving that the legacy line is back!
I first became aware of the brand in the late 80s/very early 90s, when it was all leather I believe -- no logos, no canvas, no accesory lines -- just nice, professional looking purses and briefcases. My dad bought my mom one of their bags for their anniversary and back then it was sort of a big deal. You definitely didn't see it around as much as you do now. I still have that bag and it's held up beautifully.
I didn't buy any for myself until '03. I don't use my signature print one anymore, but I do get a lot of use out of one of their leather hobos from a few years ago. I like some of their current leather totes. I don't hate the brand, but I definitely look to other brands first if I'm looking for something.
Also, for whomever posted that the thought of a fake was just too sad, I've seen fake Coach signature print bags being sold at car washes and discount stores near where I work. They definitely have a market ..... probably all those people on welfare you are complaining about.
Ditto 1000%... That being said, I actually have a few old coach bags... Two leather bags in unique shades that still have a place in my bag rotation, and a couple of hamptons bags that are good for travel, beach, etc. None of them have their coach hang tags, (removed by moi), and they were all purchased 10 or so years ago, before I knew how rich and vast the handbag landscape was... Now, the thought of spending $800 on a Coach bag seems preposterous, especially when I think of all the other beautiful, unique bags I could get at that price point (or hell, even lower... My current Rebecca Minkoff bag was "only" $500, but I'd pick it any day over a more expensive coach bag!
