You edited the very vague mention of an etsy shop I don't have, didn't post the links to but it's totally cool for you to start a post shilling someone else's book?
Well, as long as he doesn't open an etsy shop, yes?

Re: Dude, pixy, really?
No, because it wasn't him that posted it. If you want someone else to post about your etsy shop they are more than welcome to do it.
Dude, HAB, you've been around the boards as much as I have. This modus operendi (I probably butchered that) has been acceptable since the time they started cracking down on vendors/spam.
HABs has a jealous.
Oh hell no, pixy. That's sly. That's really, really sly.
And no, I wouldn't have someone post about my etsy shop because that would be advertising and I wasn't advertising my shop at all but merely discussing it.
And as for acceptable, nope, I've never seen this as acceptable. I guess I'm blind.

my read shelf:
Sly but within bounds.
You talking about your shop, and what will be in your shop is not. They've been very clear about what is allowed and what isn't. If you haven't been paying attention that is not my fault.
I'm not gonna lie, pixy, I thought the same thing. I don't want to come across as unsupportive of Reeve, but it was pretty odd that you edited HAB but then promoted Reeve's book.
So I guess we all need a crash course in the TOS?
No, I have a problem with inconsistancy. If you saw my original post before pixy edited, you would have seen that I referenced that I was considering a shop inside of a post where I was asking about photography. I had no links to my shop and there are no links to the shop in my blog. I haven't even opened the shop yet and have no products to sell atm.
By pixy's reasoning, it would be perfectly acceptable if I got another nestie to put the link to my etsy shop when I open it in her siggie and the proceed to start posts celebrating its opening.
ETA: To be clear, I will not be doing the latter and I would be pissed if I found someone doing the latter on my behalf. I'm not sure where's the gray in a no soliciting requirement on the nest but apparently, pixy has found it. It's odd to be so militant about it here but then go and violate that in such an obvious way all because you feel you can explain it away.

1. It's not my reasoning, and 2. Yes that would be acceptable, but not in her siggy.
YOU as the shop owner cannot post *anything* about your shop. If someone else wants to post about it they can, BUT it can't be multiple posts on the same board or across several boards (spam behavior).
Again, this is something that's been pretty consistent for several years now (which frankly is amazing for TN).
Pixy - I have a somewhat related question. Are you going to block/ban/edit the blog sale posts that people post on F&B? They do it all the time, and I've never had any issue with them. I guess I just wondered if it was cool with the TOS.
Also, having dealt with this issue in the past with previous Mods, I thought you could only not have a link to your business or etsy shop. As in a signature link or in your blog. Mentioning the idea of having one is not allowed?

It's not personal against you, HAB, even if you want to make this personal against me. It's the policy that has been in place for several years. Again, just because you were never aware of it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. It just hasn't come up on the boards you frequent.
Also, some of the inconsistencies come up with mods that are new to TN and don't necessarily know or understand the ins and outs of the boards and the guidelines. So when you (general) do get moderated, it looks out of place.
I try to be fair and consistent. Your editing was the first of it's kind that I had to do on this board, but not the first that I've done on others. I'm not backing down because you felt slighted, HAB, no matter how personal you want to make this. I stand by my explanations.
I'm going to have to, and I expect a blow-up like this. So far one hasn't cropped up. I have started editing out referral links, but I don't think people have caught that nor cared.
The general guidelines is that you are not allowed to mention anything that will make you money. So no calls for donations, no for sale items (except on the designated boards), no referral links, no links in your siggy, etc. Blog links are acceptable if they are not to promote your business (I have and will report those as well if they are promoting businesses).
Similarly, no discussion of your business is allowed - No mentioning what items you provide, no asking of prices, no linking to your business.
The end around to this is to have someone mention your business in posts. Then it becomes up to the mods' discretion on what gets edited based on how frequently it is posted, how much that poster participates in other threads, etc.
I didn't say it was personal. I'm saying it's inconsistant and nonsensical. Last week's conversation would never had continued or been mentioned again by me had you not started the post you did today.
Actually, that's probably not true. If you'd merely congratulated Reeve on his book's release and not linked where one could buy the book, I'd have nothing to say on the matter.

hab, fwiw, back when my business was going full swing, i couldn't mention one word ever ever ever. other people could mention it, and if they asked for recs i had to sit on my hands and other people would direct them to me and PM me. and that was years ago.
now i just have it on FB. much easier that way.
I understand where you are coming from, and it does look funny. Most of it is from TN being inconsistent and nonsensical in their rules, and the mods in their application/understanding of them. Most of my understanding is grounded in being around when several people were banned because of their etsy shops, and the clarifications that came out from that process (who can talk about them, etc).
As I said last week, I'm always happy to discuss they whys on how I do things, or the background of my understanding of the rules.
Thanks for the clarifications. It must have changed or gotten more strict from how it used to be.
I hope F&B takes it easy on you. haha.

Just FYI, there have been some people banned on TK for pming about their businesses. I don't have any more information than that.
It's more that there wasn't really an active mod over there.
/ She was busy and could only get online at night.
this was a long time ago. they would PM me, ask me for my email and then we would conduct business that way. i did as much as i could to keep everything off the boards.
i'm not even on my local board anymore. the new format blowz.

Oh, I understood that. I mention it in case someone gets banned because of business pms.
I can't believe how many people have side stuff they sell. I feel like we need a FB thread so we can see who has got what to sell.
I agree with you. I honestly didn't think about it in those terms. He had pm'd me and asked what to do, and I said I could announce it for him because I was excited for him.
Live and learn, and I won't do it again.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
The post I edited mentioned the goods that she would be selling.

Would.
Be.
Again, non-existent items that cannot be paid for with real money to profit HAB because they. don't. exist.
I just think this is so strange.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
