Re: Have you read 50 shades of grey?

  • nope- and I won't.

i liked Twilight... shocked me that i liked it- but i did.

this, from what i have been told by many, is another attempt to be sexy/romantic in a book made for young women... people seem to either love it or can't even get through the first book.... I have a feeling I'd be the latter- so not going to bother.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • I haven't, but my new favorite thing is making fun of it.

Everything I know about Shades of Grey I've learned from this blog:

    http://50shadesofsuck.tumblr.com/

It seems horribly written. I mean HORRIBLE.

  • I have no intention too.

I have a feeling it's one of those things that people are saying is good just because they've never experienced that type of genre before.  See: Twilight (vampire literature), Hunger Games (dystopian literature), whatever that dragon book was Eragon? (fantasy), etc.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.

I'm on the 3rd book in the series. Is it a literary masterpiece? No. But it's entertaining enough. It's about as well-written as the Twilight books.

  • It is terrible. It is seriously so incredibly bad.

And I stayed up until midnight last night reading it. LOL

  • no and I have no desire to.

This is me. Except I know it's bad. I'm sure there is better... smut? out there, but I haven't read any of it before so this is the most entertaining smut I've ever read!

  • Better fan fic or better kinky BDSM tales?

There is a BDSMTFF where Edward is the sub. So I just like that one for the different perspective.

The other big BDSMTFF that everyone seems to love is the 3 parter by Tara Sue Me. That was better than 50, for me at least, since there was no tampon scene.

post the list, already. Stick out tongue

I read the TwiFic original 50 Shades. It PAINED me to read writing that was so damn awful. And the Britishisms... Oh lord. Could she order ANOTHER freaking tea?! Welcome to Seattle... I'll just have tea. Hmm yeah. whatever.

  • It doesn't even sound appealing to me, so its phenom status puzzles me. I am reading Divergent and Insurgent right now though, another current hit.
  • Anyway...

The Story of O - Pauline Reage

The Delta of Venus - Anais Nin

Macho Sluts - Pat Califia (NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART)

Suzie Bright's collections of erotic fiction are generally great with something for everyone.

The Trilogy of Sleeping Beauty - Anne Rice as A. N. Roquelaure (Vanilla with just a little bit of sprinkles, lol)

  • No and I feel l like I am literally the last person on earth who has not. I know all the ladies on my street are reading it. Everyone on the nest has apparently read it. I have it on hold at the library, but I'm like #350 on the list.

  • I read a novel, recently, that was a sort of re-imagining of The Phantom of the Opera with BDSM mixed in. Very hot, but not a great story in general.

A million times better than 50 Shades or Grey, though.

It was decent enough that I bought another novel by the same author that was a re-imagining of the Counte of Monte Cristo, but also in the context of BDSM.

If anyone's interested, let me know and I can post the title.

eta: Here, I don't want to make anyone ask, that's silly. http://www.amazon.com/Unmasqued-Erotic-Novel-Phantom-Opera/dp/0451221370/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336422405&sr=8-1

  • no.

There are some things you know are terrible and you just can't help yourself. That's how I was drawn into Twilight. And I admit, it was somewhat entertaining.

But I have absolutely no desire to read this book, no matter what anyone says. Twilight fan fiction? Are you kidding me?

i haven't even read Twilight and honestly only read the FF b/c that shits is free and I have insomnia.

Lol, I just read a lot of your other comments and was going to apologize to you for being all " Twilight FF!"

I have read HP fan fic and a bunch of other stuff. I just don't see how 50SoG could be better than Twilight and Twilight was kind of a guilty pleasure/so-bad-its-good book series in itself. So meh, not interested. I'm not even interested in the free fanfic version, before she changed the characters from Edward/Bella to Christian/Ana.

  • Wait!  What?  Am I to understand that 50 Shades is Twilight fanfic with BDSM mixed in?  Ick! Bad enough reading about, and watching, that stupid twit moon over Edward for 4 books/movies.  I really cannot even stomach the thought of Edward as the subject of BDSM fanfic writing.  :::shudder:::

Marks 50SOG off "to be read" list.

  • I read part of it when it was Twi FanFic.

IT SUCKS MAJOR NUTS!  There is way better lady porn out there!  All different kinds!!

I have a bunch of mobi/epub format Twi Fanfic that has been pulled.  If anyone is interested, you can email me at babyjacksmomma at gmail dot com.  I could also list some recs.  I basically enjoy free smut reading.  I'm not embarrassed.  Okay, just a little.

I also have tons of traditional trashy romance novels (Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsay) in epub/mobi.

  • My coworker (who is in her late 60s) announced today that she was going to call the public library to see if they had a copy of this book because Whoopi was talking about it on The View and now she needs to read it.

And despite my assurances that I'm pretty sure she wouldn't appreciate the story, that is precisely what she is going to do tonight.  OMG.

In related news, Brookles, you are responsible now for sucking away my whole night because I am in love with this 50 shades of suck thing on tumblr.

    Go babies Caden!
  • I'm considering it, but not for the obvious reasons. As someone who does this kind of stuff in my (almost) everyday life, I'm curious to see what is written for a mainstream audience. I know what I do, and what many of my friends so. I want to see what vanillas *think* I do.

If anyone is interested in really well-written BDSM stories, I highly recommend the Marketplace series. It's quite realistic, and hot to boot. :)
