There is no metaphor intended in the song "99 Problems". It's either women, or, as Jay-Z later says, a drug dog. Neither is cool.
I am not overlooking the awesome arrangement.
Stay Klassy.

Re: Dear Adam Levine...
LOL!
Eh he had to respond to Christina's constant attack on tony...who does it just to prove she is not linked to the Mickey ,Ouse club.
Awesome version of the song.
i agree.
she's been SUCH a *** to him.... I just can't believe she has worn the outfits she has worn all season - HORRIBLE>
someone on another board pointed it out- and wow- how did I not think of it?
is it cool for women, when you sing a song "dirty" wearing chaps?... Xtina is one to make comments...
nobody make fun of Adam.
<3<3
You know it's bad when my husband turns to me and asks "Does she ever wear a bra?"

I think he is the best one left. The opera guy has the best voice, but he isn't versatile.
And she can be critical, that's fine. But she is a jerk about it. Her attitude is obnoxious. It's clear she feels the need to go out of her way to be obnoxious with her criticism with him. She has never had that extreme attitude before when criticizing others. My tin foil hat theory is that she is actually on his side but has to make America think there is no longer s connection between them.
But as to the song, ive loved it since the grey album, call me anti woman, but I've given up in hating misogynistic songs once I figured out I'd basically have to give up music lol. But yes, I do admit this one is a bit extreme. It certainly was a risk for The Voice.
Friends and I have always sang/rapped it as 99 problems but a fuckityfuck ain't one (as in it's was easy to get ass) so I really didn't have a problem with the song. I thought is was awesome.
Xtina is killing Chris's chances (not that I like him...he is boring) but no one will vote for him because she is a belittling, snooty mood killer.
I've said (elsewhere), this isn't a song arrangement or stagecraft competition. Frankly, Chris Mann's staging has been better than Tony's also, but it's neither here nor there in a competition for best voice. Tony's vocal performances have beIow those of his teammates consistently. Certainly not up to the quality of the last girl he knocked out. I disagree that Chris is not versatile.
Seriously? I know we analyze everything to death but for once can we just admit it was an awesome performance? Am I thrilled with the choice of song? No but Tony did an amazing job.
Secondly - Christina was talking out of her a$$, I really believe that anything remotely deep that comes out of her mouth was written for her or someone is speaking to her in an ear piece or something. She's the type of person that the blonde bimbo stereotype was created for. You want to talk about klass stick with her.
I feel so sad for Chris, he is truly gifted but being tied to Christina has really handicapped him on this show. I hope once it's over, someone recognizes his talent and gives him a recording contract of his own.
my read shelf:
Right? So, it's okay for her to sit there with her tatters out, constantly objectifying herself, but let's not have a man call a woman a b*tch. Okay.
Dear Christina,
You are not relevant anymore. You are also a hypocrite. Your son will be highly embarassed of you and the fact that you wrote a song called dirrrrrty about how much you love banging. Go away.
Love,
lyssbobiss
It's not that it isn't ok for her to criticize; that part of the show, but she has targeted him from day one, to the level of complete disrespect. She hasn't treated any other contestant like that. Even Simon Cowell, who never spared anyone's feelings, didn't make things personal or disrespectful.
my read shelf:
As the judges go, he's the most talented of them all. Last season I told H that in order for the Voice to stay fresh and ahead of American Idol, they need to switch out judges every season, maybe not all of them. I was very disappointed to hear all of them had signed on for the third season.
H and I always talk about who'd we love to see as judges. We have several men - Rob Zombie, Jonathan Davis, Randy Travis, Tim McGraw, etc. it seems to be harder for us to pick women judges. Celine Dion and Reba were a couple we came up with.
my read shelf:
Yup.
If you think 99 problems is about misogyny, you aren't listening.

The Christina hating sparked me to share this blog post. This isn't my blog, but it is a friend's. Hope it's ok. I think you all will find it amusing.
Scroll down to the pic of Britney Spears for the X-tina part -

Thanks for sharing. This is just pure eloquence. Come out of lurkerdom!
"Bald crazy Britney beats peak of her prime Aguilera any day. Sorry, it?s the truth. While Brit may not be the better of the singers, she?s a solid gold star in the sky, forever. You will always be the flank steak to Brit Brit?s Filet Mignon.
Enough about that chewed up piece of bazooka joe..."my read shelf:
Glad you like it! She is a hilarious, talented writer. I don't lurk often but I will try to post more when I do! thanks

LMAO that 99 problems is a song worth taking issue with and Adam Levine needs to STFU, but Christina is at all defendable. Social justice via a prime time network singing contest!
Hugo's version of 99 Problems is awesome. Its almost impossible to be mysogonistic when you are playing the banjo. OK maybe that's not exactly true in general, but in this case, it totally is.
my read shelf:
This was my feeling on it after her comment last night. If you are focusing on the b*tch part, you're missing the point of the song. She has the right to her opinion, but she has been completely rude to Tony all season and the fact that she brought it up again after she made her initial complaint was just a bit much, IMO.

I am reading the Voice's Facebook page and there's a lot of Christina bashing going on. Her actions this season has not gone unnoticed. However, why the he!! can't people (women) refrain from criticizing her weight? EX:
What does Xtina have against Tony? Did he like turn her down back in the day? I think you need a new female judge, she's a lil too into her self and is it me or did she get fat? lol
Christina needs to buy a mirror and a new wardrobe, or really lose some weight, she was so mean to Tony Lucca ... WOW girl get a life...
Note: I am also guilty of this - see blonde bimbo comment made earlier.
