It's okay, Smo. I get it, I swear lolol. I just love that it has some throwback flair, a little Lauren Bacall. Unfortch, I think it does suffer from some Melanie Griffith Working Girl overtones.

LOL you see Lauren Bacall I see Eleanor Roosevelt.

Maybe it's the angle of the photograph? I agree, it looks a bit shocking head-on. My only criticism here is of the dress itself--wearing underwear in public is a GOOD thing.

    Here's another angle:

    image

Still pretty bad. She seems to be standing semi normal as well. Not all Angelina-at-the-Oscars

I guess I take issue with calling anybody's body "bad". She's probably a naturally thin woman who has to work semi-vigilantly to be this skinny. I agree, attack the culture in which women are pressured to look this way when, in all reality, SHE probably has to remain in a state of perpetual semi-hunger to maintain her appearance, but don't attack the body itself. I sense you weren't saying anything maliciously, SMO, but I think we should extend understanding to ALL bodies.

I think bad might have been the wrong wording. However, I do think that dressing for your body extends to any size. Her hipbone styled this way is equal to the people of walmart type of atrocities. To me, the styling and dress is bad. Her body is probably healthy and her legs look great. However, this dress was a horrible choice.

HAB - yeah the Melanie Griffith mention is totally spot on. I love some vintage cuts, this was just not for me. haha. But half of the people were pretty wretched at the Met Gala. SJP and the girl who played Snow White were also a few vintage/throwback looks gone awry.

  • I guess I'm alone but the hip bone doesn't shock me. Would I have worn that? NO.

However, I have a very bony upper hip bone and mine looks a bit like that- although my lower hip area is much more padded (as is the rest of me).

She played Alice in Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland. Also Jane Eyre. Mia Wasikowska.

She always looks like everyone and everything bores her or that she just smelled bad cheese.

Either way the fact that she gets a paycheck for "acting" still baffles me.

Are hipbones supposed to look like that?

Also, I heard that Rachel Zoe looked skeletal, but haven't tried to find a picture.

That's basically what mine look like, and mine look that way not matter how much I weigh.  I've always been a little self conscious about them (I actually don't like wearing a swimming suit because there's no way to cover them up in one and I wanted to cry when a bride picked silk bridesmaids dresses for us once because they're very lumpy and obvious through thinner fabrics).  After reading this thread, I'm feeling extra self conscious.

I agree. I was glad there was another picture of Ginnifer not making the sourpuss face she's known for on the red carpet. This one just seems like, take the damn picture already.

Loved Emily Blunt's dress and the others you posted.  Although KMcPhee's boobs look a bit pancakey.

It definitely wasn't my intention to make people feel self-conscious. I do however sort of expect some sort of fuss with the Mariah Carey post. That is her body, she has a body part that I'm sure many people have. Somehow pointing her out as poorly dressed doesn't garner the same response or objection.

Maybe people haven't gotten to the post yet, maybe people aren't reacting to my posts in particular. To me, the two posts are the same as far as intention. Dress the body you have better than what was shown.

I don't think Rachel Zoe looks skeletal here, but maybe it's the angle.

It's cute that she brought her own trophy.

Also, I would not want to be there for the ripping off of the double sided tape. There's probably so much on there, it'll be painful.

Could someone help me find a picture of Kirsten Dunst? Because you might all hate me for this but I adore what she wore. It's very Claudette Colbert circa It happened one night.

    ::hating here::

I thought it was awful. The color, the bulk on top. I sound like a MLer, but the belt, not a fan.

    image

It could have been tailored a bit to improve fit, and in a different color, minus the belt. Could have been a win.

shut your mouth!  she looks like sexy amelia earhart.

and it's nice to see a celebrity in something that wouldn't kill her grandmother dead in the street from shock.

  • I think you get two sides of the same coin when it comes to this.  There are thin women/girls who are self conscious about it and then there are girls striving to achieve that because it is what they are told or what they see as being attractive.  It is one thing to be naturally that way and another to have sustained that look on celery and air sandwiches.

I don't think anyone is mocking or making fun of anyone.  I think we can almost be assured that Rachel Zoe worries about her weight and keeps it off intentionally...does this make any sense?

Babycopz gets complimented all the time on her COLLAR BONES, I mean really her collar bones...it is her bone structure, not a diet/beauty desire so I can see both sides.

There isn't a fuss in the Mariah Carey post because no one has implied she needs to gain or lose weight, or that she has a problem.  Maybe your intention is the same but posters have come in here implying that there is something wrong with the body, not just the way she has dressed it.

  • It's not the hipbone (I have bony hipbones and always have, my siblings made so much fun of me growing up, it was awful!) but it's more that dress just isn't especially flattering in my opinion.  It would only work on a very specific body and I can't quite think of who right now.  Maybe Charlize?  IDK.

I love Emily Blunt, Katharine McPhee and Ginnifer Goodwin. I think they all looked great.  I think they all looked better than Solange Knowles but that her dress was maybe a bit more dramatic and appropriate for the event, know what I meant?

Giselle looked good but I was not blown away. Rachel Zoe scared me and KStew was just awful.
