What do you do to keep yourself sane?

Do you have something that you do on a regular basis (every day or at least every couple of days) that you do to avoid stress or to make yourself feel normal?

eta: For example, I read novels. It's an outlet for me.

I also (stfu) have a stack of coloring books that I use when I need some mindless coloring to take my mind off of things.

Re: What do you do to keep yourself sane?

  • To relieve stress? Draw, paint, sew. To feel normal? If find someone to act like a kid again with. It doesn't make what we do. As long as I feel I don't have to be the adult or mature one for once.
  • Working out helps me feel normal and relieve any stress i have built up. A short walk with the fi helps too. Also, sex helps me with stress relief.

  • Reading (for fun). And I also like coloring, but I haven't in a long time! Maybe I'll go get some coloring books this week . . .

Also, I really like taking the time to make a nice dinner, and exercise also helps. Oh, and walking the dog. Actually, a lot of those things sound like chores, so maybe I keep myself sane by trying to enjoy the chores and see them as fun time.

  • I run on the treadmill while watching TV.  I myself am amazed at how much better about life this makes me feel.

You should! I just bought a My Little Pony coloring book a couple of weeks ago. I've yet to color in it, though.

Dude, we should pick a coloring book, make everyone on TIP buy, everyone colors in a page, and then post our results. It could be the Great TIP Color-Off of 2012.

  • That sounds like an awesome idea! I would so participate in something like that! Make it so!

  • Exercise especially swimming with a trip to the sauna afterwards.  I hate exercising, but it helps keep me sane.  Plus they have childcare.

I also really enjoy first person shooter games like Call of Duty.  It helps me take out my frustration although that might not be healthy.

  • I love love love the fact you color. That is awesome and I'm going to do that more often! I might even (gasp) color outside the lines!
    Oh, FFS.

I agree. I say that Smock and her overlord status must make this a TIP thing. Although I will warn you, I am (or at least used to be) a good artist...

    Oh, FFS.
  • Gardening, if the weather is nice.  Pulling weeds just kind of puts me in a trance.  If the weather is crappy, I read or scrapbook.

    And I love to color!

  • Arts and crafts. I write poetry and write them onto a collage of stuff that I shove into shadow boxes then I give them to people as awkward gifts.

This is me. Chores is all I have time for, and I don't have time for insanity.

Specifically, I wash a lot of lemons.

  • I also color!

I hate that I can't find coloring books that aren't also activity books.  I don't want to solve the maze, I just want to color in a puppy.  Or a clown.

I recently switched from crayons to colored pencils.  Ya know, to be a little more grown-up about my coloring.

  • Paint, garden and go for a run

  • Play video games, read, go for walks or aimless drives with the ipod turned way up.

I would like to participate in the color-off, as well.  Although I've never been a good artist.  Now, a sing-off, that I can do.

    Look with your special eyes.
  • I read or write. Sometimes I go for a walk. But right now I really want to color. That sounds like fun.

  •
I like to cook, read, watch NCIS reruns, do yoga, and anything that makes me laugh.

  • I read magazines, cuddle with my dogs, make random lists, go out with a friend, window shop on the Internet, eat, and watch mindless TV (specifically, Bravo). As stressed out as I am, at least I'm not one of those crazy Real Housewives biitches.

    This is my siggy.
  • Ahhh!!!  More adults who like to color???  I thought maybe there was something wrong with me!

Oh and Amazon has a decent section of "adult" (noooo, not *that* kind of "adult) coloring books.  DH got me some for Christmas this year.  I have one with Celtic , Medieval and Chinese designs.  They have a ton of different themes (though I think My Pretty Pony would be perfect for TIP!) - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=adult+coloring+books

Oh, and I upgraded to color pencils, too.  Ya know, 'cuz I'm a grown up and all...

LOL!  You'll definitely need the pencils for some of the finer stuff.  I tried crayons but I needed the sharp points for detail.  But yes, they are amazing!

  • I'm currently sitting in my recliner in absolute silence. It's wonderful.

And I just bought a Hello Kitty coloring book and a box of 50 colored pencils the other day. They're in my drawer at work, to help occupy some of my downtime. My coworker found a Lisa Frank coloring book, and I was jealousE.

  • Lisa Frank and Precious Moments are my favorite kind of coloring books.

I loved Lisa Frank, collected the stickers and everything. My parents wasted a lot of money on that shiit, lol.

And Geek, I have three of those adult coloring books already waiting in my cart on Amazon.

  • Acupuncture has been my saviour - I do it at least once a week and I feel so relaxed.  I also do meditation, read, cook, talk to friends and walk/cuddle my dog.

I love that the OP has colouring books - that is awesome!

  • Reading, baking, and yoga keep me sane.

Gardening and housework if I'm feeling particularly upset.

Edit: I also have a collection of coloring books. My H laughs at me. I've already tried to teach the LO to color. He's gotten a couple lines on paper.

  • Depending on the time of year.

Right now, I go hiking. In a few weeks, I will be able to attend Renaisance Festivals on the weekends. I forget all of my issues then.
