What do y'all do, and how does it work with SO's career?

I'm a nurse and I wanted to add that with an AD husband, you get priority in receiving a job on post/base/where ever. My job is actually off post but as far as PCSing goes, being in the system for on-post hospitals is supposed to make it really easy for you to get a job.

I've also heard that if H is AD and an O that will also give you priority in the on base job hunt. Is that true?

  • I work in a doctors office as a medical assistant. Its hit or miss but I've been able to find work eventually with my degree.

Haha. No, your husband's rank is irrelevant.

I'm a high school English teacher, and thankfully haven't had to PCS/find a new job for almost 6 years.  I'm also working on my MA in English Literature, which will open up community college positions when we do eventually move.

  • I sit at home and apply for jobs, then cry when I get rejected time and again. I also take care of a gorgeous 6.5 month old baby girl and a psychotic dog.
  • I was teaching while DH was in training/MOS.  When I joined him in CA, I didn't have any luck finding a job.  I was there for almost two years.  I am back in Texas now, and the job hunt has started again.
  • I am in school right now to finish my BA and MFA in English/Creative Writing. I am hoping to get a job with a company to get my foot in the door, then be able to telecommute and work freelance. It will be really tough, but at least right now, I have the drive. I got tired of putting my dreams on hold because of H's career. I love the man, but I have to be happy with my own accomplishments as well.

  • I am an accountant for a construction company. The fortunate thing about National Guard is we don't have to worry about relocating unless it is our choice.

  • I was in the same boat. After five years of marriage, I commissioned into the Air Force myself!
  • I work in nonprofit development and marketing - basically I'm awesome. You have probably seen some of my work and it made you smile. I would rather not say where I work because it's global.

    :)

How well does it move around? Well, that just depends on if/when there are jobs available. I would normally add something reassuring, but I've got nothing. lol

  • Environmental Scientist (think cleaning up oil spills and the like).  I was about 6 years into my career post BA when I moved to live with (now)DH.  Finding a job in VA was pretty easy.  I still haven't found one in CA though, even with 10 years experience (in fact, that many years experience may be my downfall).  Looked for a year, then cut back on my search dramatically when I got KU since I couldn't really do my former job when pg (exposure to haz chemicals).  At this point it would have to be my dream job or big $$ to get me to not be a SAHM since we'd have to cover daycare.

  • I opened a screen printing/graphic design business. It worked out great. I work from home, and work travels with me.
