Re: celebrity couples you hope last
I think if Angie and Brad stay together 20 years people will forget about it. Like, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were together 50 years and started as an affair, Johnny and June Cash too, John and Yoko, etc. Eventually if you stay together long enough people forget (I want to say Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford too). If you don't stay together people only remember the affair.
I agree with this.
Also, I think it makes a difference when both halves of the couple are celebrities. Tom's first wife wasn't really famous so people don't feel personally loyal to her the way they do to Jennifer Aniston, for example.
I think our tendency to feel "more sorry" for celebrities and give them more attention when they're done wrong is sad. Like: (off topic of lasting celebrity couples) Chris Brown still gets a lot of flack about beating Rihanna, a big pop star. But there are other famous male singers, rappers, actors, athletes, etc. that beat their non-celebrity wives/girlfriends and they don't seem to get ripped apart in the same way. What's up with that?
