My Dr's and I are pretty confident this kid is coming by c-section.  She's breech and on the verge of an IUGR (6th percentile, their cutoff is 5th), so their looking at an early delivery of hopefully 34 weeks.

However- if it's safe for a vaginal birth, I am in the "wait and see" camp.  I'm pretty sure I'd probably end up getting one, but I'd want to wait it out and see what labor was like without one first before I jumped the gun.

Taylina was breech until I was 32 weeks.. then she was head down until my due date, 4 days before I had her when she decided to flip breech again.. stubborn baby lol.

Landon turned at 35 weeks & I know plenty of people who had babies turn later than that.

With the IUGR, get a second opinion if you can. They took Landon early because they said he was IUGR and only 5.5 lbs/16-17 inches long....And he was 6 lbs 4 oz & 19.25 inches long so he did not need to be taken early!   Just an fyi!

I had an epidural but I pretty much didn't have another option because of my c-section. If I had to have a c-section yes it was in the plans but that all being said I don't think you go into labor thinking you'll have to have a c-section unless you have a schedule c-section. If I had to have another c-section I guess that Yes I would have another epidural... did I like it NO I hated the fact that I couldn't feel my legs for about 1/2 day afterwards, and because you have these compression things on your legs you can't get up. Not that I wanted to get up any sooner because getting up after a c-section is not fun. Also.. note that a c-section epidural isn't the same as a regular epidural.

What is the difference between them?

What I've been told/understand is that an epidural (spinal) for c-section is a lot "stronger" than a regular epidural. Considering they are doing surgery, obviously you wouldn't want to be feeling them make the incision etc. I literally couldn't feel anything from mid-chest down. When they were taking her out and working down at the incision you just feel pressure. It's a weird sensation, knowing that they are doing all that and you don't really feel any of it.   Hope that makes sense..

    My Blog
  • At this moment (and granted the possibility is so far away I haven't fully looked into it), my thoughts are, "bring on the relief." I think childbirth is tough enough and both my best friends who have had them both swear by epidurals and both they and their children turned out great. In fact, my best friend who had a full epidural had a little girl who is now 3 and seriously the smartest 3 year old I have EVER seen (recognized letters at 18 months) and can now read already. I will find a great doctor and put my trust in him/her to keep me and the baby healthy...
  • Sorry, late to the game, but had to comment. :)

I had an epi. I went into labor at 8:09 in the morning, saw my doctor for my 39 week appt at 10:30, went back into my doctor at 4:45 after laboring at home. Checked into the hospital a 5:30, Got my epi at 6:30-ish, KR came at 8:45.

It. was. heaven. I internalize a lot of things-so when I was having contractions, I would hold my breath, which is NOT good for the babe. My contractions were less than a minute apart, so I wasn't really resting. Right after I had my epi I threw up, but after that I was golden.

My doctor was the one that gave me the epi, he literally gave me a perfect amount, I knew the moment I needed to push-no problems there.

I was walking about 20 minutes after KR was born.

Where he stuck the needle in was sore for about 3 weeks-It bothered me, like a really bad bruise. I don't feel anything now though.

All in all, after KR was born, I was ready to have another baby immediately, birth wasn't that bad. ;) That parenting stuff, that's the hard part.

I say go into it with an open mind. I communicated with my doctor what I wanted. I didn't have a birth plan beyond "Hells yeah I want that large needle in my back if it means that I can relax!"

If anything, my life is the picture perfect example of the quote "the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray"
