Nothing is ever easy for us....

We had our 5th u/s today and I'm very worried.  The tech started out on top of my stomach, and was able to measure the HB at 162BPM.  Then she couldn't get a good measurement, so she decided to do an internal.  Once she started out, she was concerned about the baby's head and said she saw "fluid-like sac" by the head/brain.  Since the doctors were not there, only the nurse practitioner, the tech brought in the nurse practitioner., who stated that they wanted me to go to the hospital for a more in-depth scan.  Since it was too late in the day (3:30pm) they were going to make an appt. for me tomorrow to see a MFM and geneticists.

DH has been a champ and keeps reminding me that they did say it could be nothing. I'm having a hard time finding anything through dr. google before 18-20 weeks.  I can't seem to find very many posts or anything about fluid on the brain/near the brain at 11 weeks.

Please if you have any extra thoughts or prayers, please send them my way...  Hopefully tomorrow brings better news.

  • Tiffany, stay calm and take it minute by minute if you have to!  Hugs and prayers to you!
  • I had a similar situation a few weeks ago at my ultrasound during my 2nd tri.  The tech thought she spotted cleft lip and they sent me straight to Magee to see a dr.  The dr at Magee performed the ultrasound and didn't feel that he saw the same thing she did.  My dr is sending me back on Friday for another dr assisted ultrasound to make sure there is no issue with the lip and to check on my anterior placenta.  As hard as it is, try not to think too much about it until you see a dr! Good luck! If you go to Magee hopefully you will see Dr. Martin down there.. He had a great bed side manner and really helped calm me down!

  • Like others said, try not to goggle! Prayers to you and i hope it turns out as nothing!
  • I have a plaque that is hung on my wall and it is the first thing I see when I open the shower door to get out.  It says "With Faith All Things Are Possible."  I try to remember that in times when I'm just not sure how things will turn out.  You can worry tonight, but you'll never get that time back.  Instead, rub that belly of yours, and talk to that baby and just be in the moment.  Tomorrow will bring you some answers hopefully, but in the meantime, you're already in love and nothing should break that tonight.  Please let us know how you are doing after the doctor appointment...and I'll certainly keep you in my prayers tonight.

Edit:  I hope I spelled plaque right, because it looks funky now that it's written out.  Oh well, you know what I mean.  :)

  • Praying for you, hoping that you get some good news tomorrow. *hugs*
  • I'm so sorry that there is a new worry...i really hope that it ends up being nothing!
  • Prayers, prayers, and more prayers are sent your way.

  • Tiffany,we saw Dr. Jackson because of an abnormal u/s at 20 weeks. She thoroughly narrated all of the good things she saw in the baby's anatomy, all the signs of health.  She was both matter of fact and sensitive. (In our case, the tiny abnormalities remained even at follow-up scans and after birth.)  She explained that u/s technology has improved dramatically and is picking up on things that appear different but are actually part of normal development.  I pray that is the case with your little one.

You may meet with a geneticist first. It's a genetics lesson, an explanation of all that could go wrong with chromosomes. It was nerve-wracking, but I suppose they want expectant parents' attention before the u/s.  I'm saying  prayers for the three of you

  • Good luck this morning Tiffany, I hope you were able to get some sleep last night and get better news today.  Hugs!
  • Sending prayers your way....there are so many things that can get misinterpretted/misread....especially when you're looking at something an inch in size!

We had an abnormality come up during Alex's u/s. It was so terrifying. We had to meet with genetic people and have several follow up u/s throughout my pregnancy. Everything turned out fine and she's perfectly healthy.

    I'll be thinking about you.

  • Ultrasound scares are just awful.   I went through so many with my daughter, and not a one turned out to be anything.  It scared me to death each time (and we had 4 separate issues).  My doctor told me ultrasound technology is just too good now, they see things that they have to be careful and investigate, but often times it is nothing.  Thinking of you and praying everything is perfect with your little one!
  • You've had such a rough time.  You and your family will be in my thoughts today.

  • Praying it's nothing and they can put your mind at ease soon. I can imagine how scared you are, but don't lose hope. Many women get these kinds of false alarms, although it still doesn't make it easier when it's you. GL!
