I got my Bachelors in Geology, worked as a project engineer for a ground improvement subcontractor for about 6 months and HATED IT, so I went back to school for a teaching license! I'm now studying to teach middle childhood (grades 4-9) math and science.

H is a financial analyst for Dots (the women's clothing company, very popular in the south apparently...) and he used to be a public accountant for Ernst and Young

    :-D

Well, it looks like your husband and I have something in common :)

I got a BA and Masters in Accountancy and am CPA certified tax accountant.  My husband is an engineer with an Oil and Gas company.

No.  Way.  This is so cool learning how much we all have in common, not just being married in May 2012 :-)

  • I have my BS in Arts Management and am the Development Director for a local community center which also runs our local Girls Inc. affiliate. I love what I do and hope to get a Master's degree one day.

H is a supervisor at WalMart but is currently looking for opportunities elsewhere. He'd love to work in law enforcement and is applying for a correctional officer position, so keep your fingers crossed for him ladies!

  • I have my BA in Psychology and my Masters in Social Worker.  I work in a unit call Differential Response (DR).  We work in partner ship with Child Protective Services, when the hotline gets a call were a child in not in danger they may send the case to a DR unit.  The main allegations we wok with are Educational, medical, environmental, inadequate food, clothing or supervision.  We do an assessment and not an investigation and we can keep the case open for as long or as short as we feel necessary.

H is a carpenter by trade, however, due to the economy there isn't a lot of work out there so he is working as a painter right now.

  • I have my BS from Rutgers University in Environmental Science with a concentration is Public Health. I currently work as a Hydrologist/Geologist for an environmental consulting firm in Long Island. We deal mostly with retail gas sites.

Not the most glamorous job out there, i get to play in dirt all day...but i enjoy my job for the most part. I really wanted to switch up and work for the Suffolk Health Dept. but never got around to pursuing a Masters which is what i wanted to do and apply for a position...plus the pay is not the greatest and right now i am making a pretty decent living doing what i am doing. Since i have been on my own since i was 17, I had to pretty much start working right away and i hadnt had time to go back to school...although ive been thinking about it lately. (maybe night school)

My H is a mechanic right now. He is sort of a jack of all trades. He was an iron worker for about 11 years(he actually built part of the new Freedom towers and reflection pools at the old world trade center site) but he hurt his back and cant do that sort of work anymore. He is less then thrilled with his current employer though. But he is working toward his ASE Master Tech certification which would make his a level A mechanic and he should start making pretty good money.

I seriously can't believe how many geologists we have on this board! I thought I was the only one!

  • geojam....nice topic!!!  I'm a little late to the party...but in case you all are interested....

I got my BS in psychology and my masters in School Counseling.  Well with small town living, comes choices and sacrifices to be made.  We decided to stay in the town that I have grown up in as my H has a pretty great job along with family health problems.  That meant my career is, oh how shall we say, a bust!  There are not enough school counseling positions around here and when one does open up, they usually just hire within the school district.  Long story short, I'm now a Financial Planner, so the counseling comes in pretty handy!!  It's definitely not where I thought I would be, but I get paid really well and sometimes sacrificing your job for family is so much more important.

My DH works for the city here and is a Water Superintendent/Foreman.  He loves his job, but has some real challenges with people that he works with.  Small town living comes with lots of gossip and he and I just are not gossipers and that doesn't sit well with the people he works with.  It's an interesting group and I sometimes think I could have written my thesis on that group!
