Just curious

H and I were randomly talking about this today. Did you stick within your wedding budget?

Not sure how to post on a poll like on TK :/

Re: Just curious

  • We never had a firm budget set, just what we thought we might spend. We spent more than anticipated, but not by a lot. We're still very happy with the end number.

  • We went over by about $500, so that wasn't too bad! :)

  • We did our best too, and we were pretty close to it. we went over by just a bit.
  • We went over for the wedding. I don't know about everyone else, but I never knew how expensive wedding stuff could be.  I think our original budget was not realistic for the type of wedding we wanted. We didn't go into debt for it though.
  • We stayed pretty close to our budget. We just went slightly over.
  • We went waaaay over...I am so grateful that my parents paid for the wedding, and they were nice enough to pay for all of it (even the overage).

  • I still have to calculate everything to see where we ended up, I know on all the broad categories (DJ, flowers, etc) we were under. But all the random trips to Michaels, those last minute purchases, etc we might be slightly over. But we were mainly concentrating on keeping the big tickets items in check an we could afford everything we paid for, so no regrets.

  • We didn't have a budget either but we didn't spend more than we had.

  • My parents gave us a general number to try and keep it under. I think we came in around that but there were many things I don't know exactly what they cost because my parents bought/paid for them. All our vendors were within the general budget.

  • We didn't really have a budget, but we were able to afford what we spent.  The few guidelines we had set monetarily speaking, we did stay within.
  • I didn't really have a "budget" per say but I knew what I thought was reasonable per item (per plate, DJ, Flowers, etc) and stuck with that. I can add up all those main ticket items and am we were generally where I was expecting to be but all the other random items like trips to michaels, ac moore, stamps, and gifts I didn't really keep track of!
  • We never had a firm budget.... but we were pretty close to what our tentative budget was. It was hard for us to set a budget when we had no clue what anything would cost for a wedding!

  • We had a general budget idea in mind and in the end, we stayed pretty close to that number.
  • We actually were below a little bit. :)
  • Over. I wasn't surprised though. Not including the honeymoon we were about 5k over what we anticipated.

  • I still need to add everything up but I believe it was quite a bit under my budget.

  • We made our first budget without looking at how much things actually cost in Maui.  Once we started looking at things and seeing how expensive everything was, we kinda re-did our budget, but it was never a firm budget.  I'd say we went about double what our original budget was, but we never spent more than we had....just more than we'd originally intended.  I wouldn't take any of it back though!  It was so perfect!

  • We were a little bit over target but still within what we were comfortable spending.
  • We also didn't really set a firm budget.  We went over our original planned goal by around 20%, but H's salary also increased several times during the course of our planning, so we likely would have planned on that increase from the get-go.

We didn't have a firm budget either. H had his heart set on the country club we got married at, we decided if it would cost us less than $20k we would be okay. The CC was way under budget. Pretty much everything was. We spent about $12k on the whole wedding.
  • We went over budget. The budget we had though was really unrealistic for how many people our parents insisted on inviting. It actually is a sore subject because our parents insisted on a high guest count (and since they were paying we couldn't really say anything) and then last minute we ended up having to cover the difference. Oh well, I loved the wedding so there's nothing we can do about it now.

Well in that case, why didn't you spend even MORE MONEY!?!?!?!

  • We were actually under budget.  :)
