Confessions (eta-and disney talk)
Let's get this day moving!!
My confession: Brian & I decided recently to take the boys to Disney in a few years...like, probably in 2014 or 2015. But what do I find myself doing today? Playing around on the Disney vacation booking site...you know, just looking. And daydreaming. And ooohing and ahhhing over things. And doing the math on what package would be best for us, if we should invite the grandparents, etc...
It's going to be a long few years.
Who else has a confession?
Re: Confessions (eta-and disney talk)
I'll stick with your Disney theme. We have been saving for a Disney trip...probably for next year. But, we had SO much fun at the all inclusive this year, that we took a vote on whether to go to Disney or another island/all inclusive. The island won. Of course, we took the vote while we were standing in the awesome turquoise waters off of Turks and Caicos. (So of course that's what we picked!) I am not sure what we will do, part of me feels like a jerk for cheating my kids of the whole Disney magic experience. But, the other part of me is relieved to not have to do the Disney thing. Just looking at the blogs and the Disney vacation planner gives me stress. How the hell do I know where I'll want to eat 6 months in advance when I've never been there? (Meal plan thing). And picking parks and the different tickets and well, it is just overwhelming and stressful to me.
Amber-that's a tough decision!! (and mental note to myself, do not look at disney blogs! I've been sticking with the vacation planner site and there's a LOT to take in just on that site!)

I don't want to do Disney either. How does one with a food allergy feed their kid by eating out for an entire week anyway? And all the details, and activity, and go go go feeling of a trip like that is so not my style. But I will go once for Eleni. Cause she will love it. I think we are going with the ILs next year. I will let them plan, and pretend to love it.
I had 2 donuts and 8 donut holes today already. Plus the small bowl of cereal at home.
Mo is sick and I have been waiting to take him to the vet cause I thought it was just food related (we are switching him and he didn't do well on lamb then kept eating the lamb one from Bellas bowl so wasn't getting better) but I am taking him to the vet tonight. I just hope it isn't anything serious. poor buddy.
I have off next week! Just a stay at home kind of vacation. I am both excited to be home with EJ and sorta wishing I could just be alone for a full week too. hahaha.
My brother has a job interview today and I'M a bundle of nerves. He's had such a rough time on the job search since graduating with his teaching degree/masters. I know it's been hitting his self esteem and confidence really hard.
Now with a new baby he REALLY needs this more than ever. Bonus...the job is in Pittsburgh and I would love to have my new nephew close.
Who's the job saint again?
Not a confession but as a family we didn't go to Disney until my youngest sister was six. That was the deal, who ever was youngest had to be six before we went to Disney because my mom wasn't taking a stroller and she didn't want to have to deal with naptime.
I was 21. We have never gone back. My dad had won a trip and used the money to take us. While it was a great trip everyone whined and complained (it was too hot, the lines were too long) My dad's complaint was every ride exited through a gift shop!
Now, Nathan and I went for our honeymoon and we loved it. But we didn't have to deal with anyone but ourselves. We ate at the fancy restaurants and park hopped as we felt like.
But my biggest advice is to stay on property, makes life a lot easier. Plus, your tickets are included with your stay.
Kris-my dad had a similar rule, in that my little brother had to be old enough to stand somewhat of a chance of remembering the trip (he absolutely despises amusement park rides...and lines...and crowds of people in general) so he was only going one time, and one time only! We waited until my brother was 5, I was 10. We went in March and I don't remember the crowds or heat being bad at all.
Fast forward many years later and Brian's parents generously offered to take us....in JULY. Terrible, terrible idea. I was miserable. You couldn't escape the heat, and it was beyond crowded. Never again!! We learned our lesson, we'll be taking the boys in the winter, I think!

mmm....donuts. I'm super jealous.
I hope Mo is ok!!

Yeah, we went in June. My parents is very anti missing school for vacations.
Nathan and I are planning a trip since my parents timeshare includes Disney. When we went, the employees said the best time is the first two weeks in Nov. and the first two weeks in Dec. because you will miss the Thanksgiving & Christmas crowds.
I had 3 donuts on Monday, they were just sitting there all lonely.
And don't feel bad, when Bruce hurt his ACL we waited 3 weeks to take him to the vet because we thought he pulled a muscle. Although, we have opted not to have the surgery since there is no guarantees if it will work.
I really want to go to Disney in the late winter/early spring next yr, but I think DH is going to blow our vacay budget on a pool and fence for the backyard.
My confession is that I started to paint a bunch of my mis-matched furniture, but I sucked at it and my dad had to keep fixing my mistakes, so now he has totally taken over. My parents have this obsession with keeping things between my siblings and I balanced (like they're convinced that if my siblings knew he painted my corner cabinet they'd want him to paint theirs), so I'll have no choice but to take all the credit for his work
.
Another confession: I'm not looking forward to DD's bday party at all. We had to invite too many people so it's going to be crowded (and MIL keeps wanting to invite more), and it's a week after we move so my head's just not in the game. And I'm not looking forward to having an onslaught of new toys coming in while I'm trying to organize all of our exisiting stuff.
Kris and Emmy, my patents made us wait till I was "old enough to enjoy it" which they said was around 11. My brother was a senior in high school I think!!
Personally I think it was a complete waste!! I had fun but I was past the magic stage. I wish we would have gone when I was younger.
We went in Feb when dd was 3.5. And it was a perfect age. She may not remember but WE will. It was pure magic for her! I'm glad we went now because she is obsessed with princesses who knows what she will love I. a year or 2.
I know a lot of people want to wait till their kids are older but personally I think it is so magical when they are young. Dd was old enough to enjoy it but young enough to believe in it all. While disneybis fun I'm not sure it will be as magical and fun if we go when dd is older. I think it's lacking in rides and is all about the magical experience.
Oh and dealing with a stroller was no big deal! I liked having it! Could use it for storage!
That's our line of thinking, too---Jake will be probably 7, Liam will be almost 4. Jake will definitely remember, Liam is questionable, but I'll remember it for everyone

Thats what I've said too. Even for dd, she has become less focused on princesses even since feb (although still lives them).
My friend went when his oldest was 3.5 and he loved it and do did she. They are going again in jan when she is 5.5 and he said he already feels like the magic window is gone. When she sees somebody in costume she talks about them not being real whereas last time she went she believed they were all the real characters (and so did dd).
And honestly I have memories from 3 and 4 so I think is possible dd may remember something. But I have tons of video and pics of how excited she was so that is worth it for me!

in regards to disney, my bff is getting married in Napa, ive been dying to go to Napa so Im obviously stoked to go
But, Im equally as stoked to take H to Carsland in disney land. I have a 10 paragraph email drafted for Sarah, which needs editing
You may be surprised. Disney is really progressive with their meals being able to fit with any allergy. I just know b/c we send wish kids to Disney all the time & they usually have some food intolerance (gluten, nuts, etc..) and Disney is very helpful pointing out what foods/restaurants are available. I bet once you start to research it you will find good info. If you have to go to any theme park with an allergenic (sp?) kid, Disney is probably the best.
Not sure how this turned into a Disney post but we have been twice staying off property and just going to one or 2 parks. We won't do the "big" trip staying on property and all the parks until Eamon is older.
FYI my friend just did the Disney cruise and loved it - she said she would sign up to go again in a minute.
No confession other than I should be working and not responding to this post.

What? This stage cannot move that quickly! I'm trying to convince DH to go right before DD turns 4 in March. He won't commit to it. And Emmy...I've played with the vacation planner too. Several times :-)
LOL. My mom is EXACTLY the same way. Even the amount of money she spends on all of us for Christmas has to be even down to the penny. It drives me crazy at times.
Amy -- Lanna has been over princesses for a while. She liked them while she was 2 and that's about it. But she would probably still have fun seeing them. And all kids are different, so I wouldn't worry.
Val -- so funny! My mother would have this running commentary on Xmas morning about how my sister got more outfits than me, but the one jacket she bought me cost more, etc. etc.
I don't much care if she's into princesses--it just seems like i-Carly is so much more mature. And Lanna is only like a year older than Brinley :-(
Honestly I don't feel like there are a ton of rides to begin with. I was disappointed in rides in general. But dd enjoyed what she went on. There weren't a ton dd couldnt ride but felt like she wasn't missing out on a ton either. Like even older she probably wouldn't be going on space mountain (even when I went at 11 I didn't want to ride it!) so no mt. Everest or space mountain. But most she could do. She was just slightly too short for splash mountain.
But she rode most rides I feel like. But not roller coaster obviously!
Well, she spends a lot of time when she's at MIL's with a little girl who lives next door who's 6 (and an "old" 6). She's the one who got her into iCarly. And Katie Perry. I love watching my 4yo dance around the house singing "I wanna see your peacock" (especially when her 1yo brother joins in)...
I've never been to Disney and don't feel like I'm missing a magic experience. Of course when I was little it was the exception if friends and classmates got to go to Disney, not the rule like it is today.I kind of feel like the entire "right of passage" to go to Disney is BS, honestly. I'm still undecided if we'll take Gabriel in a few years. Enjoy whatever vacation you end up deciding on!
Also in terms of Disney - my step mother in law has been trying to bully us into going to Disney in 2014 b/c our nephew will be 4. I'm not taking Gabriel on my nephew's trip to Disney, kwim? I don't think Gabe would really enjoy it. He'll only be 2 and it's super expensive!
Casey has been in Seattle since Saturday helping his other brother get his house ready for their forthcoming son (due in September) and I've loved having Gabe all to myself. I'm kind of bummed that the days went so fast, but I'll be happy to have Casey home and an extra pair of hands.
I cried last night b/c my milk supply has totally tanked. I'm only able to nurse Gabe in the morning and in the evening with two pitiful output pumping sessions at work. We've been supplementing for about 2 weeks. My heart is broken. I love nursing.
Yeah, I guess a lot of it is more about character experiences, shows, parades, etc...
Ok, I really have to step away from all of these sites (thanks, Amber...I couldn't help myself & I started looking at forums!)--I'm getting way too excited about something that is still awhile away!

That's exactly what happened with Caileigh - 2 yrs ago going on vacation for a week with my neices & nephews and a week long dose of every Nickelodeon/Disney show and she started singing Rihanna songs in the car (remember the one with Eminem about burning up?). Since then it was scaled back but then kindergarten and a year of driving with my sister and her 4 older kids and soon enough my 3 yr old is dancing to "i'm sexy & i know it" (pretty funny actually but still!). Oh well, I can still tune into the nursery rhymes or K Love in my car!

Thankfully I know that she's too young to understand the innuendo, so I don't make a big deal about it. And she sensors the swear words, so that makes me happy. It reminds me of singing along with "Damn I wish I was your lover" when I was a kid in the car with my parents and saying "dang" instead of "damn" when they were listening
