Re: why are toys so expensive??

  • My girls birthday's are in Nov, so Christmas is always tough. S's big Christmas gift last year was supposed to be a vanity.... she got 3 (yes, 3!!) different vanities at her birthday party. ugh!!!

Toys are the last thing we need with us living out of my IL's two spare bedroom's for the next 6 months. I always buy the girls ugg's & north face jackets for their bday's so I'm planning on suggesting that to the grandma's when they ask..... they spend well over $100 on bday gifts anyway, so I figure I might as well direct them to something necessary that might end up saving me some money!

  • My MIL spends so much on stuff for the kids, but she likes the reaction gifts and useful things like shoes or memberships or subscriptions don't get the big reactions from the kids. She claims she's going to buy fewer things this year and spend more on one big gift, but we'll see!

Does it even include the puppy pictured? Because I just bought that same (I think) puppy for a friend's baby and the puppy alone is $9.99!

My favorite thing is trying to explain to your 5yo why "Santa" can't afford to buy her the umpteen $50+ toys on her list without stealing the magic of childhood from her.

that is why in our house ( as it was when we were growing up) You asked Santa for 1 special thing. He only brings one thing.

the rest go on a list for  mommy and daddy and everyone else to buy, or not, and I always say "we'll see" and
'we will put it on the list" then try to make sure and stress the things he really wants to askers but NEVER promise everything.

Honestly so far he hasn't asked for too too much there are usually only 5 things he always talks about and they are not too pricey yet.

  • On a related note, I am a huge amazon shopper but I findthat their prices on toys are not great, so always check somewhere else for a better price!

Ugh, I hate that.  We've already had to have that talk with the parents.

At least you don't have a birthday to go through first!

Speaking of shows - we loved the children's theater shows when Caileigh was 4-5.  Depending on what the shows are they are alot of fun.  One hour either at local high schools or byham downtown (we did downtown for the experience).  If you Buy a Mouse a Cookie is the first one

Thanks....I never knew anyone who went...I just looked at shows for this and love that they have them at Seneca Valley....
