** balbacm **

Hey, I don't know if you saw my other post, but we used our fireplace for the first time yesterday and it set off our smoke alarms upstairs. Do you have a fireplace? Did you experience anything like that?

Re: ** balbacm **

  • no, missed that post.  We do have a fireplace- turned it on yesterday for the first time this fall - yay!

The first few times we ever turned it on (back in 2010) set off the alarms and smelled really, really bad.  They told us to expect this and that it was "normal" when we did our walk through on closing day.  We just opened our windows and then it was a non-issue.

Even yesterday it smelled a little bit at first since it was the first time running it.

  • Ironic you have to open your windows to use your fireplace! They told us it might smell, but the actual setting off of the alarms was a surprise. Good to know it shouldn't be an annual occurance :)
  • yeah it just happened the first few times we used it.  i love it - it really heats up the place quickly.

  • I can't remember although I'm sure I asked... did you get the blower? We did not, but our old fireplace had one, so I was wondering how it worked. We also had a thermostat on our old one, which I liked, but this one just has a switch.
  • nope, no blower.  just a light switch!
