I don't feel like putting up a tree this year.

I am in the looking for a house zone and not in the mood to really decorate. I think my thinking comes from - people don't see it (except for my parents when they come visit after Christmas Day. We hardly ever have people over and they are only over for like 10 minutes to meet up with us and go. I think it's a huge waste this year. I will be so excited to decorate and have people over once we get into a house. I'm just not into it. DH said he would like one but sees my point. If we would get one it would be a 4 footer (we usually get 6 or 7). I just don't see going and spending that money this year.

Am I being a scrooge (I hope not that isn't my intent)? Or is this justifible?

Re: I don't feel like putting up a tree this year.

  • I think you're allowed.  We didn't put up a tree last year becasue we putting flooring in our living room, and we're not here for Chritmas Eve or Christmas Day.

I went and got a 2ft table top tree to have one in the house.  Maybe that's an option for you?

  • You are not being a scrooge.  And when you are in a house next year you will be even more excited because it will have been awhile since you had a tree.  We didn't do one last year and I am actually excited to get all of our ornaments out of their boxes this year.
  • You're not being a scrooge, as long as you're happy it's fine.  My brother and his wife don't like putting up a tree because they always come home to PA for a week and wouldn't be around the tree long enough to enjoy it.

Maybe just something little instead would help put you in the Christmas spirit, but I understand not wanting to take the time and money for the whole tree setup.

  • I feel the same way!  We have a house and I hate the hassle of putting it up.  Plus, our cats like to knock the ornaments around.  We get a real tree and I hate the mess it makes but I just love the look and smell of a real one vs. an artificial one.  I just wasn't in the mood this year to put one up but DH wanted one so he did most of the leg work.  I did help hang ornaments though.   For some reason I can't get in to the Christmas spirit like I have in years past.

  • I feel the same way this year and I shouldn't.  This is Sophia's first Christmas and we need a tree up.  I am forcing myself to put it up this Saturday.  I'll have DH help me set it up, then I'll put the ornaments on.  Ugh....I don't know why I'm dreading it so much.  I guess I'm just being lazy.
  • You're totally not a scrooge.  I know exactly how you feel.  The past two years I was so excited to decorate my house in October and November but by the time December rolled around, I was too busy.  Last year, I put the tree up and strung the lights, but I never got around to hanging the ornaments.  The year before, I didn't decorate at all.  This year I'm even busier, but we're having family over for Christmas Eve, so I'm going to have to get it done.  There are so many other things to do this time of year that it's just not worth stressing yourself out over it if you don't want to decorate.
