AF Question

This may be TMI but we are all women so I think it's okay. But can any of you tell me what the difference is between spotting and just a "light" day during AF? I was always told you don't have to wear a pad or anything while spotting.

I am just curious because I have never had spotting issues in my life and now the last year or so I have noticed it happening more often. Some times I don't need a pad and other times I do just curious what to call it sometimes. Now that H and I are TTC getting the timing right could be helpful. Thanks ladies!

Re: AF Question

  • I think the difference is spotting happens other times other than when AF is around....I've never experienced any spotting at least not recently, but if I did I'd wear a pantyliner or something, but not a tampon. For light days towards the end of AF, I would just call that a light day and personally I just wear a smaller tampon.

  • on TTGP they say that anything that requires you to wear a pad/tampon is not spotting.  But I think if you only need a panty liner or it only shows when wiping that's considered "spotting".  In the past few years I've started spotting a lot more before & after AF than I have when I was younger.  I'm 28 if it matters/helps.
  • I agree with PP, I believe spotting occurs when you are not on your period and light days refers to when you are on your period but it is getting towards the end and it's not heavy (like a full blown period). All girls are different though so some many only experience a light period so it's hard to have terms such as this since no two bodies are the same.

  • For me, spotting is too light for a tampon or pad and only using a panty liner and it has to be brown. If its red or pink when I wipe, I call it a light day.
