Yay!

For the first time in a week I'm feeling a bit more merry and bright :)

-- Today is my last day of work until Jan 3!

-- I feel like we're in good shape with our Christmas prep.

-- We booked our trip to Disney for May yesterday (thanks to Sarah)! I haven't been there since I was a kid, but taking my own kids has been something I've looked forward to since they were born. I'm very excited. I really want to tell Lanna, but I think we're going to hold off till like a week prior. She'll drive me crazy if she has to wait 4+ months from when I tell her!

Anyone else celebrating today??

Re: Yay!

  • I have to say the snow prediction has done a bit to help me feel in the holiday spirit.  I managed to get a couple batches of Christmas cookies baked this week.  So we will have something for Santa and dessert on Christmas. EJ made me laugh though, last night we had done cutouts and she came into the kitchen and said "Mama, I just don't feel right. I don't feel in a christmas spirit" And I tried to talk to her about that only to soon realize she just wanted to eat a cookie. Wink so I got her spirit meter back up to where it belonged stat!

I still work tomorrow, but from home. So that will be easier to suffer through the slow day. And I am also off until next year. The 2nd I think.  Hoping to get a chance to paint my kitchen next week!

  • Ha! Cookies always lift my spirits (unless they're peanut butter or raisin).
  • today is also my last day in the office, i am working from home tomorrow.  I still have tons to do re: food prep for various parties and gatherings this weekend.  but all the shopping is done and wrapped.

  • So glad I could help, Mandy! :)

Today I'm celebrating having my voice back! Laryngitis is a bummer and a half.

  • I'm at work today and tomorrow--but I baked my last batch of cookies last night.  And DH is at home with a list of all the other things that need to be completed prior to us leaving for my parents house on Saturday.  I'm relieved not to have to be the one going to the grocery store.  I am not a fan of the crowds prior to holidays--it just adds to the stress level.

I do have to say that coming home to dinner on the table and being able to relax with the kids makes a world of difference in my mood!

  • Our power just came back on after 2 hours without.  Yay!

That's so exciting about Disney!  I think that's a smart move not telling your daughter until right before.  If your daughter is anything like mine, I would be driven to insanity long before the trip.

  • Oh and another thing, my Mo has been so sick. this year he has lost a grand total of 6 lbs.  Which was about 1/3 of his body mass. It had been getting worse but this week he finally has eaten 3 meals a day and may have put on weight for the first time all year.  SO I may be stuck cooking him food for the remainder of his life. But I think I am ok with that.

Awe, that's good news! My mom makes her dog ground meat, rice and peas every day of his life (actually she makes batches, but he gets it everyday).

  • Yay for Christmas spirit!  I'm off today, I just took a break in my cleaning frenzy to get a snack.  I have my Christmas music on, tree is lit up, and I'm actually happy to be cleaning because at least I know it's for a good reason.  I'm excited for family to start arriving tomorrow night :)  Pretty pumped about the snow too....I just hope the forecast changes & maybe it sticks around for Christmas day.  then tomorrow is my last day until January 3rd woohoo!

Mandy--so exciting about your Disney trip!  we're going in October (thanks also to Sarah!), so I'll be pressing you for details after your trip :)  I'd imagine our kids are close enough in age that their takes on the rides & experiences would be similar so you'll have to fill me in.

Mo is eating Pork, potatoes, pumpkin, yogurt, medicine and supplements.  I had to make a batch yesterday. And mixed up cookie dough.  It was amazing I still was able to force myself to cook us dinner!  I am so happy he is acting more normal, but I think I have forgotten how naughty his normal is some days!

We are going in early May too- but told Eleni in like August. And she did drive us crazy for about 2 weeks. Waiting to share the news isn't a terrible idea. But the frenzy fades eventually!

we're staying at Art of Animation-how about you guys?  Jake knows we're going (well, we've told him we were going to go someday) so he has no idea it's this year.  I haven't decided when we'll tell him.  It will be before, because I think anticipation is half the fun, so id like to do a countdown of some sort with him.  Maybe a week or two before.

  • I decided on Saturday to knit a pair of mitts for Heather's teacher...so I have to finish them before I can go to bed tonight. And since we leave to see my family Saturday morning, I have to have all the wrapping done before I go to sleep Friday night. I kinda wish I had called in sick today to get the knitting and wrapping done...but I'm trying to power through. As soon as I've finished the podcast I'm listening to, I'm planning to listen to Christmas music the rest of the day to get me in the spirit. I think we're going to have a wonderful weekend and a great Christmas...I just need to get there!

  • Amanda -- first week of May? That's when we're going!

Emmy -- I bet that's going to be nice! We're doing Port Orleans. I'm hoping we won't regret not doing the upgrade to the Animation one, but we have talked to ppl who liked PO, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Maybe I'll tell her a little sooner than a week out, because you're right anticipation's half the fun. I just don't want her to think it's a Christmas gift. I do not need her to think she's going to get something on the level of a Disney trip every Christmas. Santa ain't Oprah.

  • I'm celebrating that all of my shopping and wrapping are done and presents are in the mail.

I get to give my sitter's children their gifts tonight and I'm very excited about that.

I'm also celebrating that it seems Gabriel is finally getting over the illness that has had him in its clutches since before Thanksgiving, I hope I'm not jinxing anything.

Glad to hear so much nice news from everyone! Yay for Disney trips. And ya for Mo's recovery and EJ's Xmas spirit, that's too cute.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

I'm feeling this with Nigel now after his surgery. The poor booger must have felt like hell for a long time. I forgot how mischievousness he is when he's feeling good. Small price to pay for his health, I guess :)

  • I am in the Christmas spirit! December through February is hell at work and it makes it really difficult to separate myself from, but this year I am determined to not let it affect Christmas or time with my family like it usually does.

Tomorrow is my last day of work until the 3rd, but I will likely end up working from home next week - keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to come into the office!

We don't have too much to do to get ready for Christmas, but we have a lot of plans over the next few days, so I'm sure I'll be running around like a crazed lunatic as usual, but I'm excited about all the fun stuff that we have going on!

Dh and I went to Disney (pre-kids) in May and we loved going that time of year.  I loved Epcot being all decked out for the Flower and Garden festival and it was warm enought to swim but not oppressive. I can't wait to take the kids.

Of course -- Epcot is the one park we decided to skip in favor of a down day at the hotel and Downtown Disney!

Yep, first week.  So the like 4th to the 12th? or something like that.  We are staying at my ILs time share with them.  (trip was their idea, and their treat)

  • Okay... we're going the 1 to the 6, so we'll be there some of the same days! Fingers crossed for good weather. That's awesome that you have access to a family time share.
  • Mandymiller- Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter? We stayed at Riverside when we went in Sept. We really liked the resort.Great pool too.
  • French Quarter apparently. I didn't realize there were two distinct sections like that. Do they share a pool? Lanna loves pools, which is why I wanted to make sure we left time for her to enjoy it!
  • They don't but we have friends that have stayed at FQ the last two years and rave about it.They have a great pool too I've heard. :) It is not as spread out as Riverside which at the end of the day you will appreciate.

We stayed at the French Quater.  They have a nicely themed pool.  The slide looks like a dragon/sea serpent thing.  It's probably ok that you are skipping Epcot.  At the age your kids are they would probably be bored and it's a lot of walking.
