Oh, double wow. I just read through the bearing fruit thread.

So Jan8, am I reading right that you claim to be a Christian? I never would have guessed that.

Is it good that no one would ever guess that you are a Christian from your posts?

Also, I would like to quote you in that post. You said "As you know, sometimes in life we buy things and pay for them later".

So buying "things" and paying over time is okay, but paying for medical care over time is bad?

I would not have guessed that either.  Maybe she is like that christian minister that wrote on that waitresses receipt.  "I tip god 10%, why do you get 18%?"  you know, the kind of christians that don't act like it

Min Wage needs to be raised by a quarter, badly. The Republicans won't pass it, but it's a good issue for Obama to repeatedly hit them on. He can bloody their noses pretty bad on an issue there's no way they will surrender on.

Do you really think this is the best time to focus on minimum wage though? I certainly agree that it needs to better keep up with the actual cost of living, but I feel like the time to do a hike is when the economy is doing better, not while everyone is still complaining over the burden healthcare is putting on employers. Too many new costs all at once will be unsustainable for business, especially smaller ones, and I'd guess that most min. wage employees would rather be making 7.25 and struggling than not have a job. Let's at least let the dust settle as the new ACA regulations continue to take effect this year, and then see where we stand.

The amateur economist in me is skeptical, LD. Stick out tongue

I'll answer you on three levels:

Morally, it's the right thing to do. In tough times, the poor need a living wage more than ever.

Politically, pushing it is good strategy for Obama. He can push it, knowing the House Republicans won't pass it, scoring points without anything actually happening.

Practically, increased wages drive demand, which drives the economy. I'm a pretty strong believer in Trickle-Up economics. It mights slightly hurt the richest Americans who have taken the vast majority of the wealth of the past ten years, quite unfairly.

nah. You can be a Christian and not be naive and uninformed. It's totally possible, just look at ML. I might not agree with her philosophically but she at least bothers to be informed and form her own thoughts and not parrot back misinformation someone told her.

You admittedly don't follow news except when it is something you want to here from someone you like. Then you post vague half truths and get pissy when people ask follow ups and specifics. It baffles me why you even post on a political discussion board when you can't actually discuss politics. It's a given that when you post here you need to be prepared to defend your thoughts and positions. And don't claim it is one sided. ML asks for examples and specifics as well, which facilitates actually dialogue and discussion.

More spending, and no budget cuts.

Thanks Obama for putting my future grandchildren in debt.

riiiight.  If your future grandchildren are in debt, I don't see how that will be Obama's fault.  What a strange statement.   If you want to blame a president (which is pretty ignorant to begin with), why not Bush?

I missed all of this. Sorry.

OK You can just blame Bush all you want. Liberals need some kind of scapegoat for failure. EVERYTHING that happened to Bush, was Democratically voted as well. I'm taking it you don't know how the House and Senate work? Anyways.. That were voted by both parties! You can say they were lied to all you want, and again, you can blame the LOLberals. Psssst.... they lied too

We are in a debt crisis! Ask your great grandchildren :) He is ruining their future and they have not even been conceived yet. SPEND SPEND SPEND LOL It worked sooo well before. Look at all of his failed stimulus. How much are we still owed? How many companies that he bailed out are moving out of country? Yea, way to go! Keep backing him up! Your wool is glowing :)

I get what your saying, the whole country's future is in peril and Obama who is our current president and in a position to make those positive steps either doesn't see the problems or just doesn't care.

reading comprehension fail on your part.   What exactly was I blaming Bush for? I said it was ignorant to blame a president for her hypothetical grand children's hypothetical future debt.  And if she wanted to be ignorant, Bush was a more appropriate target.  Also, the stimulus wasn't a failure.  I think you are woefully misinformed.

Anyone who uses catchphrases like "loliberals" is immediately tagged as someone who is reciting talking points.

Also, if Bush can't be blamed for anything, how do you justify blaming Obama? Hypocrisy? You blame Obama for all his "failed stimulus", but Bush gets a free pass because "Don't you know how the house and senate work?"  Lol. What an interesting argument.

You are missing my point.  We could go round and round about who is to blame.  At this point, shouldn't we just let that go and make positive changes to right our ship.

I would have said the same thing about Bush, I was certainly no fan of his.  But, wouldn't it be hypocritical of me to blame Bush when I am saying let's move on from blame?

I am not blaming Obama, I am just saying he is the president and the one currently in a position to make changes.  Bush is gone, and he can't do a durn thing to change our country's direction at this point.

Bush, repubs and even Libya for Benghazi(yea that dumbass from Cali blamed Libya) How am I "misinformed"? Maybe you can provide links instead of your usual lefty talking points? Maybe? Did I say Bush got a free pass? Did I say not to blame Bush? He is part to blame, you all just seem to blame EVERYTHING on him. It has been over 4 years.. Move on. And you obviously do no tknow how it works.. Considering both sides had a VOTE. BOTH sides. Let me say it slower... BBBBBBOOOOOOTTTTTTHHHHH sssssiiiiddddeeeessss. Try reading, and maybe you wont be so obtuse. obama is our POTUS, he is in control and he is to get the blame. I understand everything was not going to turn around in 4 years. I am not a dummy. There has been NO steps to send us in the right direction. Everything he does contradicts himself. obamacare and the minimum wage for starters. 7.8% UE the economy still in the tank, and he is just making it worse. THAT is why he gets blamed. He is completely nieve to how this country works. "Those who do not know history, are doomed to repeat it" THINK about it

Jan8, you are something else. Wow.

I assume you are a liberal and a democrat. I realize that is an assumption, but it seems valid given what you have said.

So, my question is how your basic views align with what you are sayig here in this post?

I thought liberals supported all those people on welfare and believe strongly in skittles for the poor. They also don't believe in any thing to do with bootstraps and earning what you get.

Now I see you attacking someone who has a job and is not on welfare for paying their medical bills over time (but paying them) and having the nerve to go out to an inexpensive place to eat.

I assume if she were a democrat, it would be fine with you if she didn't pay her bills at all and ate out on the government's dime all the time. Isn't that the liberal platform?

Don't you constantly support those people who do nothing but live on welfare? And don't you actively support their right to skilltes?

Your double standard is showing. And so is your utter ignorance.

I think you owe the other poster a big apology. And maybe you should reexamine your true feelings about some topics.

You are showing how little you actually believe in what you spew on these boards.

You are also very rude and seem proud to be a bullying hardaz.

Really makes me want to be a democrat like you.

I am a liberal and a democrat. I do advocate for helping those less fortunate than myself because I have been blessed with so much. What digs under my skin to no end is people like valgrl acting like she is making it on her own with no help from society and those around her. I had help along the way and may need help in the future.  There is no shame in having help. I had a pell grant, I deduct my mortgage interest, etc.

I don't owe her an apology for stating facts. She is paying her medical bill on a payment plan. The hospital or doctor (depending on the affiliation of her physician) will be supporting her for however long it takes her to pay the bill. They can't go to the receptionist who checks her in and say, "we will be paying you your salary over the years she will be paying us."  So some one is carrying her. Period. It is another form of help. In my opinion, it's just another class of welfare.

I support everyone's right to help. I do not support people claiming they are doing it on their own with no help.

I never called her a name. She has called me a b!!tch, twat and some other things. I am not going to let people call me names without calling them out. Sorry. It is not even in my personality to call someone a name. I will call you out (ex. I think she is mooching off the healthcare system) but I will not call you a b!!tch or anything.  I am a grown woman. omg, stop hating seriously.  I don't believe in obama's policies and it's my own personal belief not anyone else's.  I've said it before but I will say it again.  I do believe there needs to be some reform in our healthcare, I just don't think the way it was done was the right way.  You must get off on this.  I told you I don't like that it has TONS of pork in it, bottom line.  get a life

You can never tell me what you specifically don't believe in.  What specific policies don't you believe in?  "Anything with pork in it?"  You do realize that he signs laws but does not write them and if pork is in them, it is most likely coming from congress.  Of course, he can encourage certain policies but congress is the one that creates and passes laws.

If you think I am hating on you, clearly you do not know me b/c it would get much more brutal and personal.  If you would like me to go there...clearly I can.  Just say the word.

Lastly, I will get a life, as soon as you get a job so that you can...I don't know...have a medically required surgery and pay for it!  If you subscribe to the Republican "we built it motto," then I am pretty sure your doctor would like to be paid for the work he/she does.  Why do they have to go to work, pay their staff and wait for months for you to do a payment plan before they get the money?  So I will be happy to get a life when you get a damn job and stop mooching off the rest of us in health care.  Thank you very much.  And I still have not even gone there yet with you...just say the word.  Please.

uh exactly how am i mooching???  sorry if I don't have $3,000 laying around ready to blow, we just started off on our marriage 3 years ago and had a baby 2 years ago.  I have a job and so does my DH, we don't live off the government.  you are just a f@cking hateful B!!!TCH

Paying for a medical treatment recommended by a doctor is not "blowing money."  Eating Steak N' Shake on a Friday night is.  When you don't pay your medical bills and go on a payment plan, how do you think the doctor pays his staff or the hospital pays the doctors or staff depending on their affiliation?  Ding...Ding...Ding...People who are paying their bills have to get charged a little more to be able to cover people like you who will be paying their bills over time.  So, I will gladly pay for you treatment so you can go to Steak N' Shake.  It is no different then living off the government.  You are living off someone.  I might be a hateful B!!tch but I am a self sufficient one.  Now go get a job that allows you to pay your damn bills...since you "Built It."  Stop mooching off of everyone and acting like you are self-sufficient.

    Hey now!

Don't blow up at her for the $28 she spent at the fast food joint for her family (to eat a meal) when you blew a few hundred bucks on Indians tickets to see if you could resell them for a profit over the same weekend, taking a risky gamble in the process. She was eating. You were scalping.

Also, it's a low blow here to invoke her innocent answer to your post over there on MM. What is this? You're trolling on MM to make "gotcha" responses to poster here on P&CE?

I haven't seen anywhere that it's written or stated that people with medical bills cannot have a night out for dinner with their family every once in awhile or weekly for that matter. WOW! You are hard!

Other posters: I'm referring to Jan's MM thread on "How Spendy was Your Weekend?"

ML - thanks, you are a kind person unlike this twat.  I had no idea anyone found my life so interesting as to keep tabs on me and my measly little dinner dates.  I had a $5 coupon and I had just booked 3 weddings that week and had stashed half of that $$ in our savings.  we were not even going to go out that weekend but I felt generous.  It looks like this wedding season is going to be even better than last year.  I've booked 5 weddings in 3 weeks.  I have also gotten 2 new violin students in 2 weeks as well.  I stay home with my DD during the day cause we can NOT afford daycare.  I have worked jobs I've hated, then one day I decided to take a chance and start my own business with what I was born to do, play music.  I've never been happier in my life.....maybe you (jan) need to find some happiness in your life instead of taking your anger out on me.  besides I thought you were all FOR helping out those less fortunate than you, hence why you love your president so much.

I am happy that this President's policies have allowed you health care and your business is picking up!!  That's great!  Please continue to say that you hate his policies that are helping you. I am all for helping those that are less fortunate but don't act like you have never or are not currently receiving help.  Do not look down on people who are receiving help because you are too.

I love my job. I don't have to work. Lol. But I want to. I got paid today. All of my paycheck went into savings except $144. That is what I bring home biweekly. My husband can support our family financially but I love what I do and I feel like I make a difference in people's lives. You can do a job that you love outside of the home. In fact, two on my friends (one is a close friend) plays for the Cleveland orchestra. Obviously, these are damn good musicians but they love what they do and make good money doing it. I love what I do and make good money doing it.  I think people should do what they love and what they are passionate about. I also think that at times in our lives we just need to take a job to pay the bills. It is all about balance for me because I have been on both sides.

It is all about balance for me because I have been on both sides.

my husband is the main provider of our family and he would work harder if I truly wanted to be 100% SAHM, but I love doing what I am doing and if the only debt we have is 2 small medical bills, no credit card debt, paid off house, paid off cars....hell I think we are doing DAMN good, better than most. I don't feel we are living off of society like others do with the obama phones and food stamps.  I think you are a bully and get off on it.  You have done this to Cincy probably about a month ago....i think you just like picking on conservatives.  If i were a dem you wouldn't be harassing me.  I make more now working for myself than I ever will at any piddly job.  I make $36 an hour teaching....anywhere from $150-$1100 performing.  tell me what office job or retail for that matter will pay that much.

EVERYTHING that happened to Bush, was Democratically voted as well. I'm taking it you don't know how the House and Senate work?

No, you are the one who doesn't know how Congress works.
