Athens, Greece

My husband and I are going to Athens next March.  We honestly think this will be fine since we have kept up to date on the protests and look at the embassy's website to make sure travel in the area is safe.  However, if anyone has been to the area recently, I would like to know your opinions.  If you have been to Greece recently, please comment on how "safe" you thought the country was.  Any places to avoid?  Our back up in Venice, but we would really like to go to Athens and hope to book the vacay in the next month.  Thanks for any info!!!

    We were there in September of 2011, which was not very recently but it was while the protests were already going on. Never at any moment, did we feel unsafe. Actually, the city is so large that we only saw some signs/banners hanging up & never even

  • DH and I were in Athens in Septembeer 2012 and never felt afraid.  We arrived via RCCL and had a tour guide for the day.  We were all over the city from the Acropolis to the Angora to the museums to shopping.

  • I was there in May 2012 when the country was in the news a lot.  I didn't see any protests, and I was staying near their parliment building (or whatever it is called).  I felt very safe walking around alone.  There are some beggers, but
