Do you use OB tampons?

I have a colonscopy scheduled...and I just did the math. Best case scenario I'll be on the last day of my period. Worst case...right in the middle of it. I'm considering using OB tampons just to save me the embarrasment. But...totally stupid, I know...if there is no string, how do you it out???? ...I'm so humiliated that I even posted this. :(

Re: Do you use OB tampons?

  • There is a string, just no applicator. You push it up with your finger. I'm not sure that they would be better or worse than any other tampon for that procedure.

  • String...good to know.  That makes soooooooo much more sense now.  I guess I'll still with tampax and be embarrased.  :(  Oh well.  I guess you gotta do what you gotta do, right?
  • Yes, there is a string.  Just no applicator.  I used ob tampons for years until I started using a menstrual cup.   If you don't want a string showing you should try a mentrual cup.  The one I use is the Diva Cup.

  • When I had my colonoscopy (at 17... as if that's wasn't traumatizing...), I was on my left side during the entire thing.  When you're getting ready for the procedure can you kind of pull the string forward?

And don't forget... they've seen it all. :)

  • You might check with the hospital to see if they will allow you a tampon-when I had my appendix out years ago and was on my period they made me just use a giant pad they provided as a tampon wasn't considered sterile.
