Snoogle

Worth it or waste of money?

I can't really put my finger on exactly why I'm uncomfortable sleeping. I had to give up stomach sleeping, which was my preferred position; I realize a pillow isn't going to solve that though. My hip aches on whichever side I've been lying on. I'm considering buying a snoogle but don't want to throw away $40+ when I don't even know what my problem is.

If I get one, do I need an additional cover for it, other than what it comes with? Amazon reviews say it's scratchy.

I realize I'm just shy of 16 weeks so it might sound ridiculous that I'm already uncomfortable sometimes, but I have gained more weight than the average person has at this point (probably more than the average twin mom at 16 weeks, really).

Re: Snoogle

  • I'm in the minority but I hated mine. A memory foam mattresss topper was very helpful though.  I had hip pain on the sideboard was laying on. I would first se if a pillow between your knees helps. If not I don't think this will work for you. I thought the gray cover was good enough but I didn't use mine more than a couple times.

  • I have a snoogle that a friend let me borrow and its definitely helped. I was a stomach sleeper and the snoogle helps to allow me to still somewhat sleep on my stomach, while supporting me. I believe it has the original cover on it, and while it is a bit scratchy, I suppose, it's not bothersome.

I was using a body pillow before the snoogle, which helped some, but once I got bigger, it just wasn't cutting it anymore.

  • I have a $15 body pillow that has been amazing. I'm also a stomach sleeper usually and I can kind of wedge myself into a position that is kind of like sleeping on my stomach.

the snoogle might be awesome but I just didn't want to spend that kind of money.

  • I'll also just add that I was experiencing the hip aching early on as well- around 3.5 months or so I think and I worried about how much discomfort I was going to be in down the road, but it didn't really change. For me the memory foam was extremely helpful all the way to the end and I didn't have to deal with the aching hips again until I was in labor and delivery. Once there I still had to lay on my side but it was not comfortable at all without my mattress topper. I think next time I'm going to ask if I can bring in a little foam pad to put under my hips. The good part is that all through labor I kept switching sides which I believe might have helped my epidural distribute the meds more evenly.

Agreed!  Don't worry - I was uncomfortable early on, too.  I got a $10 body pillow from Target, and that helped.

  • I bought one and liked it for about a week. Then the neck piece became very uncomfortable and I couldn't use it. My DH loved it though and took it from me.

This is really good to know--I've been kind of concerned about it. I thought people might think I was being silly. :)  Thanks for the input everyone.

I guess I should clarify that I had different issues towards then end- my back would ache and my feet started swelling, but the hip issue didn't change.

I figured. I assume I will have additional issues later on, but still good to know that at least something that bothered you early on didn't get worse.

I loved mine. In fact, I was so sad when I had to stop using it after DS because it became uncomfortable (this was like 6 or 7 months post partum).
