Re: C&P About us
Ok, I think you're way out of line here. Lisa didn't say Jews have a persecution complex, she said YOU did. And then to link to a neo-Nazi group? That's really, really below the belt.
Her entire post was below the belt. Obviously two wrongs don't make a right, but her claim- that I have a persecution complex- is based on nothing more than my opinions about why it is vital for Jews that Israel continue to exist. Nothing more, nothing less; and that claim is parroted by anti-Jewish groups, against Jews who make the same arguments. Whether she meant to or not, she invoked their rhetoric and that I could not ignore.
In case it comes up, I've read this thread -- I haven't had a chance to read the others. But don't have time at the moment for a "Shoshie" response you've all come to know and love because I'm in the middle of a major house clean up.
Although if sent a direct question, I will be happy to respond (last night of Chanukah and all I am feeling charitable).

IMO, it's difficult to understand this thread without the context of the 4+ threads on the subject on P&CE.
I did read through two out of the four. While some of the names are new to the thread, the back and forth discussions are not new and have been going on as far back as E08.
If you have every seen my posts on the matter, you'll find they are in agreement with you.
I have been there. I have done that. Just ask TTT about our back and forths.

I know, I've read your posts (not sure if you remember me from E08) and I'm sure I've dittoed you more than a few times. What I didn't expect to hear today was the wave of "anti-Semitism" posts and responses they prompted. Or the sweeping and ugly depictions of Israel that I have never heard lobbed against any other country, several of which are in the thread you responded to.
I just....yeah. I guess there's no point?
my read shelf:
?
And I've seen the trailer for West Bank Story but I've never seen the movie! Is it good? ?
omg, buy it! It's only $1.99 on iTunes. It's really cute, and I think makes an important point to remember right now. These people, on both sides, at the end of the day are just people. It's a comedy, and a 20-minute short film at that, so it's clearly not a deep exploration of the conflict, but how often have we seen this sort of back-and-forth? It's like my favorite bumper sticker says, 'An eye for the eye leaves the whole world blind'.
And from a producing standpoint, I must say I'm impressed with all of the artistic aspects as well. Well, I guess those would have to be good in order for it to win an Oscar....
#2 - We don't agree about your comment meant. Based on the rest of what you wrote, I can understand why you would call it disgusting.
#3 - I completely did not mean that the way it came across and now I wish I hadn't used that phrase. I was referring very narrowly to your views on how "the board" talks about Israel. I thought you were seeing an overall anti-Israel stance when there was none. I thought I was differentiating between the real persecution the Jews have suffered - which I would never, ever try to deny - and what you were perceiving from the board.
In a discussion a few weeks ago about whether or not it's okay to use Holocaust "imagery" (for lack of a better word) for other purposes, I slammed people that thought it was okay. I told people that they needed to get themselves down to the Memorial Museum to learn more about it. There were far, far more people agreeing with me on that issue than that disagreed. I think are many supporters here.
I can tell that there is no separating Israel (and anything it does) from why it needed to be created, that the two are one and the same thing to you. They aren't to me and I suspect others on this board. I can completely understand Israel's right for existence while at the same time, understand the Palestine's rights, as well. As I mentioned earlier, my family also had their homes taken from them and given to others. That does leave me sympathetic to the Palestines but does not change my views at all on what happened to the Jews.
