I got laid off this afternoon.
In a way, I think I'm OK with it because I've been thinking about leaving my firm for a while, but it sucks. Especially when they say (and I believe them) that the only reason for doing so is because I'm paid the most and they can't afford to keep me.
Now I've gotta figure out what to do with my life.
Re: Bad news
Elizabeth, I am SO sorry. That is terrible news. I am sure you'll find something amazing very soon, but that is really sucky.
I hope you find something way more amazing!!

I'm sorry to hear this. As you said it will give you a chance to take a look at what you want to do. Good luck.
Thanks, ladies. I have to admit it feels kind of weird that you're the first people I've told about this.
I would've liked a bit more warning. I mean, I understand why they did it the way they did, but it caught me completely by surprise.
Oh no, I'm sorry! Even if you were already leaving, it sucks not to be able to do it on your own terms. On the plus side, though, you can collect unemployment now.?
Zombie hugs and best of luck figuring out your next move. ?
Very sorry to hear it! Good luck with figuring it all out. You know you get reciprocity in Wisconsin, right?
Hmm, on second thought, the winking smiley kind of makes it look like I'm hitting on you.
Oh I am so sorry. The no warning thing really sucks.
But, if you were thinking about a career change, this could be anopportunity for you to take some time to really make that happen. We know you are brilliant, so I'm sure you'll find something fabulous soon!
That sucks! Here's to hoping you find something much better!
Anything you can achieve through hard work, you could also just buy.
Ah ***. I'm really sorry. Man - you would've thought the could ask if you'd take a pay cut or give you some warning....
I hope you find something wonderful to do, and it is true that a JD is so translatable. For what it's worth we have a handful of attorneys working in my office - I do fundraising and development for a cancer center. It's incredibly rewarding and a lot of fun.
Good luck,
Elizabeth
(and by the way, whenever I see your sig I want to reach through the screen and pet your kitty - she's sooooo cute!)
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
I'm sorry this happened...even when you're not happy where you are, it's still a tough situation to be in.
Like everyone else said--I am sure you'll be able to find something that makes you feel better in what you do and makes you happy.
Good luck!
More nesting and cooking time!
Just kidding.
I'm so sorry. That totally blows. Hugs and a
.
I am so sorry! Best of Luck with future endeavors. If you have any questions about local companies let me know.
