Which SK book are we going to read for Halloween??

Put some ideas in this post and I'll make a clicky of the popular ones in a couple of days!

Our Annual SK readalong is one of my favorite things about NBC :)

In the past we have read: Salem's Lot, The Shining, Needful Things, Bag of Bones and.... Someone help me out here. I'm missing one...

  • Maybe we should do the new one this time around.  If not, I vote 11/22/63.  Everyone should read that.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • Duma Key
    Misery
    Under the Dome

  • Why not branch out to other horror writers too?  Peter Straub, Dan Simmons, Dean Koontz, Jack Ketchum, Joe Hill.

There are so many good horror/scary/spooky books out there.  Not that Stephen King isn't awesome, but it would be nice to add more ingredients to the pot.
    90 books in 2015?

  • Oh, that's fine. We just always do SK and I am a creature of habit.

  • I know we did IT the year before last.  I think Doctor Sleep will win the votes, but I'll suggest Under the Dome.

We did The Shining last year as our October book club book.

I know we've always avoided doing new releases as our discussion books, but I'll be reading Doctor Sleep either way and I'm sure we'll all discuss it. We can make it official or not, but I know I won't be able to wait until late October to talk about it :)

  • Hmmm. As much as I love SK (I knwo you are all shocked by that) I would be open to another author too.

    But for SK I vote:
    Misery,
Duma Key (man, I loved that one!)
Needful Things (because Sheriff Pangborn always makes me happy)
Under the Dome (because I could use a reread as the series is screwing up my recollection of what happened in the book)

I'd be totally up for a group reading of Dr. Sleep but I know I won't be waiting till Oct to read it for sure

  • I vote for Under the Dome or Misery.

Doctor Sleep is a sequel to The Shining, so everyone will have to have read both.

  • If Carrie hasn't been done yet then maybe that?  I know my IRL book club is reading it for October plus the remake of the movie is coming out so I'm sure a lot of people will re-read it.

  • @myjunegirls I was totally thinking I need an Under the Dome re-read, too!

Honestly, any of them would be fine with me.  I have never read Carrie so I'll probably read that one around Halloween just for fun anyway.

  • Wasn't UTD a book club read a while back?  I thought that I read it with several of you guys.  I'm going to vote for

    SK's Insomnia or Joyland

    And if we're branching out:

    Joe Hill's Nos4a2

Koushun Takami's Battle Royale (although as one of my favorite books ever, I'm not sure I could handle it if you guys didn't like it, and I'm not sure it falls squarely into the Horror genre)

  • I haven't read UTD since it first came out and the details are super vague. I'd love to sharpen them back up and also boil with anger every time I see the words Big Jim.

  • I've never read an SK. But DH owns and has read most of his books. He also has all the Joe Hill books, which I've also never read. I have a ton of Dean Koontz and have liked his books.

I'm up for anything. I just want to be scared.

This is exactly me. I'm fine with whatever but there is nothing better than a super-scary book at the beginning of fall.

Than I think Under the Dome wouldn't be the book to read for this than.

    ^^^ this.

I have honestly never read a horror novel, so I am excited to do so this halloween!
  • Some other suggestions based on a google search for the scariest SK books:

    Carrie
    Pet Semetery
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
    Gerald's Game

    Me too!
  • Misery
    Duma Key
    Joyland

I'd be up for branching out too. If others were reading I might be brave enough to try NOS4A2 (though husband showed me a pic of Nosferatu the other day and it scared the crap out of me. Not sure that has much to do with the book though.)
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • IMO opinion, Joyland is not scary AT ALL but more of a "who did it".  If you want to be scared, that's not the book.
