What one book did you not like...

Re: What one book did you not like...

  • Eh, it makes me a little sad when people can't find the same enjoyment I do from a book, but it doesn't make me upset or judgy. People have different tastes. That's okay.
ITA.  Posts like this don't phase me at all.  I know that I have different taste in books than a lot of people, and that just doesn't matter to me at all.  I like what I like, and I don't really care if other people don't like the same things.  Plus, a lot of what seems to be REALLY popular on this board is not really my style (like paranormal YA - some of it is okay, but too much of it gets really old for me really fast).
  • The Mortal Instrument Series.
  • If I Stay

    Heart-shaped Box

    Beautiful Creatures

I couldn't finish The Book Thief or The Night Circus.

    my read shelf:
Cathy (CathyL7910)'s book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • The Mortal Instrument Series.

This one for me too. I read the first one and barely made it through and had no inclination to pick up the rest in the series.

  • I'll follow that up by saying that no, I'm not judging anyone for not caring for Outlander. I realize that it is not for everyone. I only judge certain reasons for not liking it.

  • I couldn't finish The Book Thief or The Bronze Horseman.
  • I think I'm fine with someone not liking something I love if they have a valid reason. Often times (and especially on this board) it seems like having a dissenting opinion or getting caught up in minor details seems to be more important.

  • Time Traveler's Wife and The Book Thief were both DNF for me. And I felt really bad cuz TBT was a buddy read. I also couldn't get into Outlander but my H read the whole series (at the time he may be behind a book or 2 now).

I'm totally fine with people not liking stuff I enjoyed. The Anita Blake series is one that stands out. While I can completely understand why people dislike where the series has gone (and how smutty it is now) I still enjoy the series and look forward to each new release.

I can't remember if everyone on the board loved it or not but The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the WORST and I'm sad I won't get the hours I spent reading it back.

Also - if you hate/dislike a book that I loved...I'm going to judge you a little. Junewhatevs.
I will hold a grudge  *takes out pen and paper to make my grudge list*
Yup. It's not the book, it's you.
Totally. That's why I try to avoid these but now can't bc of Yellow Circle (yup, proper noun now). Some books I love I can view and say "I loved this but I can see how someone else may not." And then there are books that I sincerely cannot understand how every person on earth would not enjoy. And one of them is being listed here over and over. And I will never trust those people again.
    Curious! Which is it?
Nope, because if people start telling me why they didn't like it, I may cry.
    Admit it; it's 50SoG, isn't it.  :P

  • I can't really think of any. I typically find some enjoyment in most books. It doesn't really phase me if someone else doesn't like a book I do.

  • Eh. I haven't read most of the books that are recommended on here. I'm still pretty new and need to work my way through them.

  • I have not even tried a lot of the hot books on here. I did download all of the Outlander books at one point when B&N had them for cheap, and I have not read them yet. I started reading the first one, and I just wasn't ready to devote my life to the series, so I stopped. I will try it out again sometime.

Honestly, when people don't like the books I like, I just kind of shrug and move on. I don't spend time trying to convince them they are wrong or anything. I read a TON of romance and women's fiction (I discovered Susan Mallery this year for the first time and have read more than THIRTY books by her in that time), and I know that's not everyone's cup of tea.

I knew I shouldn't have come back into this post, the amount of people that didn't like The Night Circus is killing me.

  • I didn't love If I Stay. It was just ok for me.
I had a hard time getting through The Book Thief.
I'm trying to get into Gone Girl but am having a hard time. It may just be because I don't have a lot of time right now, though.
    Books Read in 2016: 4/50

  • Shatter Me. The second half of the book is good, but the first half was terrible and just drove me nutsl
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • If I Stay.

    The Night Circus.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I didn't not like it, I was just super underwhelmed after all the hype. Don't stone me for this one!

We Need to Talk About Kevin

And while I really liked TFIOS, I think it's his weakest book after Katherines. But, I totally know I'm the minority.
  • If I Stay. I didn't hate it, but it was just OK.

::Hangs head in shame:: I'll see myself out. I love Gaiman and Green, but I felt let down a little by both. I know I suck. :((

Hearing this made me die a little inside. I think it's such a beautifully written, tragic story. I want to cry just thinking about them.
