Re: CP- circumcision

  • This was a really heated discussion on another message board I'm on.  I was surprised to see that the majority were completely against it.

  • The circumcision debate ALWAYS gets heated.  People feel really strongly about it, one way or the other

  • I don't have a strong opinion either way, but yeah, we'd do it.

  • I think we'd probably do it. DH is circumcised, so I don't see why not.

  • I don't have a strong opinion either way but if the decision was totally mine I probably wouldn't do it.  Hubby, however, strongly believes we should do it- so we will. No biggie for me... I don't have a penis.  This is kind of his thing to decide.

  • I am strongly against it.  I see no reason to do it.  Nature put it there for a reason and the reasons to do it don't outweigh the reasons not to do it for me.

  • I don't think we'd do it if the time came.  I don't think it would be my call, though, since I don't have one.  I think DH would have to decide that one.

  • I'm pretty sure we would do it. My H is circumcised and it would mostly be his decision too, since I have a vag, not a wiener.  His call.

  • We likely would, but I would leave the decision up to DH.

  • @pandpmeant2b I left the decision up to Alan because he has a penis and odds are MT will see it and Alan would have to answers questions about it. We discussed it a lot and didn't go into it without doing our own research and weighing the pros and cons. If I had been strongly for or against it he would have taken my opinion seriously it wasn't just his decision.
  • @BruinsBabe33, sounds like you and Alan made an informed decision together; you did your research, which is my point.  Sure, DH is likely to feel more strongly about something like this and that should be taken into consideration, but I would never say, "You have the right plumbing; you decide!"  Maybe not everyone means it so literally, but I have heard women say that and mean it before. I just can't imagine leaving a decision like that up to one parent just because they have the right bits.
    imageimage
  • I guess I just assumed that those ladies who said, "my H has the peen, he'll decide" would also have taken time to have the same discussion as bruins. But then again, maybe I'm just assuming too much about the ladies here .

I have no strong feelings either way, but we will be circumcising if we ever have the need to be able to do it.

You would hope that (I would too), but I've literally heard women say they want nothing to do with the decision because it should default to the male, just because he has a peen and they don't know anything about it (so they think having a unit gives them magical knowledge on the topic and are obviously too lazy to do some research). I hope I didn't insult anyone with what I said.

Well, it is an elective procedure. A lot of insurances don't cover it unless there is a medical need.

  • Of course we will discuss this.  Just saying, lol

This is how I feel.  When I say it's up to DH, obviously I am putting in my input too.  Just that ultimately, he might have a stronger opinion on it than me.

  • I wasn't planning on it, however DS has something called hypospadia so they needed the skin in order to repair the problem. So he's circumsized. If we had another boy, I guess I would do it since DS already is.

  • Fun fact: DH was born without a foreskin. When this discussion came up, he said, "Well I don't remember any pain of being circumcised, so why would our son?". To which I had to remind him, he was never actually circumcised....

I think we will though. Just a personal choice. I think it is everyone's prerogative to make their individual decision.

    LOL! Even if he
had been circumcised, unless you're waiting until the boy is older for religious/ceremonial reasons, most boys are circumcised in infancy. Of course they're not going to remember it!

  • Up to H.  We have had a discussion and he's on the fence.  I am kind of leaning towards no, but again, I dont want the final say on this one.  There are pros and cons to both, so we will see when we get there and continue to inform ourselves in the meantime

  • I did some research and talked to DH about it. I felt like I could go either way on it. R feels strongly about doing it, even though the cost is OOP, so that's what we are planning to do.

  • I waffle back and forth on the topic.

I tend to lean towards not doing it, and H really doesn't care. I guess we'll figure it out when the need arises. (lol, everyone loves a penis pun, right?)
