Re: Happy Valentine's Day Friday!! What are you reading?

  • Almost done with The Cuckoo's Calling (and loving it!) and getting close to finishing Shift (Howley). I'm so glad there's another book after Shift. I'll be sad when it's all done.

I'm excited to finish these because I have a few more good ones in queue!

DH left work early today and is planning to grocery shop. I'm hoping he'll have some plan for dinner. That's gift enough for me today!

  • Shady Characters, by Keith Houston. I highly recommend this if you're a grammar nerd, and even more so if you are into typography. It is about the history, and "secret life" of a few well-known, and some lesser-know punctuation marks. Extremely interesting, written in a very approachable voice. I'm LOVING this.

    I'm also reading
Forgive Me Leonard Peacock, by Matthew Quick. I just started this one, so I have opinions yet. ;)

Vellichor: The strange wistfulness of used bookstores
  • I'm reading The Madman's Daughter by Meghan Shepard. It's a YA retelling of the Island of Doctor Moreau from the perspective of his daughter. It's a little weird, but pretty good so far. I'm also noticing a lot of similarities to Shakespeare's The Tempest.

I took a break from listening to The Golem and the Jinni to start Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi because I needed some brain candy with everything I've got going on this week.

  • I'm slowly reading Beautiful Chaos (Beautiful Creatures #3 ) and Orange is the new Black. They are both good but the Olympics is cutting into my reading time. I love them but I can't wait until they are over.
I'm listening to Something Borrowed. This is a reread.

DH has to work tonight so it's just me and the kids. Nothing special. We don't put too much emphasis on V day because DH used to work at a flower shop and grew to hate it.

  • reading "one breath away" for the WBC. Very good book so far
reading "hard as it gets" just for fun
listening to "a walk across the sun" hope to finish it this weekend

we went out to dinner last night. I had cabin fever really bad after being snowed in with 21" of snow for two days.

  • I'm reading Feed by Mira Grant and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell for WBC.

I worked all day yesterday and came home to my husband sleeping on the couch.  We don't really celebrate V-Day since our anniversary was three weeks ago.

  • I'm listening to Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi and narrated by Wil Wheaton.  It is such a fun listen, I really love it.  It's sci-fi/humor about a young hollywood agent who is tasked with finding a way to introduce an alien race that is ready to make contact with humans.  They are not cute and want to make sure humans have a positive image of them, seeing them as good aliens so we don't get scared or kill them or anything.  It is a riot!
  • I just finished The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle.  ***1/2 stars.. (2 for first half, 4 for second half). Book number 5.

I hope to start Alienated today.

Nothing special last night.  DH finally finished working the aftermath of the storm and had a total of 113 hours since last Friday, so he's exhausted.  He slept on the couch, kids watched a movie, I read.

    Books Read in 2016: 4/50

  • Twisted Sisters by Jen Lancaster. I'm not loving it. Her novels are not my favorites of hers but this one is the worst so far imo.

That sounds awesome. I keep hearing good things about John Scalzi, but I've never read anything of his. I'm putting on my Audible wishlist to remind me.
