Happy Friday!! What are you reading?

How do you like it so far? Is it for fun or any of the challenges?

Finished HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban (re-read) and Attachments.  I had to force myself to finish Attachments.  The second half was much, much better than the first, but it's my least favorite Rainbow Rowell book so far.

    Just started Unbroken.

  • I am currently reading:

Indifel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali.  It is for my IRL bookclub.  I really have no interest in it whatsoever so it is going to be a struggle to get through this one.

    also reading

The Blood of Heaven by Kent Wascom.  It is taking me some time to get used to the author's writing style, but so far it is keeping my interest.

and for something a bit more lighthearted, this morning I started

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins.  I didn't LOVE Anna, so I am curious to see how this one will rate.

These are books 70-72 for the year.

  • I'm reading Elizabeth Street by Laurie Fabiano. I'm not very far into it, but I'm enjoying it so far. It's # 42 for the year (I think).

  • I'm still working on A Constellation of Vital Phenomenon ... it's for SuBC and it's #33 for the year. It's really good in parts, but really slow and boring in other parts.

    Re-reading Brave New World.
Started listening to Prince of Tides this morning.

I'm a slow reader, so I never finish the seasonal challenges. I decided that I'm going to keep working on my SBC list and see how long it takes me to actually finish it off. These are my books for re-reading something you haven't read in years, and water word in the title.

  • STILL reading Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power by Jon Meacham.  It hasn't engulfed me the way that the last two presidential books I've read did, and I just haven't had a ton of time for reading lately.  It's good, but not amazing.

I just started listening to TKAM in my car.  I've read it a few times over the years, but it's been a while, and nothing new struck my fancy when I was browsing audiobooks at my library the other day.

These are 32 and 33 for the year.  Jefferson is for the presidential challenge, but otherwise, no goals or challenges for me.
  • I'm still listening to The Goldfinch. It's good, but too long to listen to on my commute. I drive an hour and a half a day for work and it's still taking me well over a month to finish this.
I started Make You Mine this week but sadly haven't had much free time to read it. Great so far!

  • I'm reading Reached ( matched #3). It's only OK. I'm interested to see where the series ends but I think after this and The Maze Runner I have found that I am not a fan of the Y A geared to younger teens.

I'm also still listening to Outlander. I should have it done this week!

  • I picked up my James Madison biography again and hope to make some progress this weekend.  It's actually really interesting, but I am ready to get to the part about his presidency since so many of the first presidents all seem to overlap quite a bit.

I am listening to Shadow and Bone and I really like it, I just haven't had time to listen lately.  I might try to get some stuff done around the house this weekend while listening.

  • I just finished The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.  I was kind of meh about it, but that could be related to how long it took me to read it.  The ending was much better than the beginning, which really dragged.  It was #24 for the year, I think.

I'm starting The Happiest Baby On the Block, but I need to go find a fiction book to keep me busy too!  I'm thinking I might dive into Outlander... :-)

  • The Casual Vacancy.  Not at all what I was expecting.  Rowling's description of the life of a heroin addict was spot on, as was her depiction of a children services social worker. My job puts me in close contact with caseworkers and addicts and I was impressed by their treatment in this book.  She certainly created some realistic characters.

    Landline.

I'm not getting the same reaction as everyone else. Since I am not married with children, I can not relate on that level like most of you.  I am enjoying it, but it isn't a favorite of hers for me.

Just started Reached. It's a library book so I need to read it first, otherwise I'd dive headlong into The Book of Life.  Still listening to The Fires of Heaven in the car.  It's slow going.

  • I'm reading Finding Dandelion by Lex Martin. I just finished her first book, Dearest Clementine, and loved it.

  • I finished listening Into the Wild by John Krakauer yesterday. I need a new audiobook for my commute. @booneybear‌ I was going to start Infidel on audio next, should I skip it? I 'm still reading Longbourn I'm about 50% done and the story is finally kind of picking up. @packfan20‌ I know you mentioned putting this on hold at the library last week, I'm finding it to be long, drawn out with not much happening in the plot. The premise sounded so promising too. I'm slightly disappointed. I'm not going to give up on it just yet.

I'm jumping back and forth between a bunch of books:

Under the Dome- I've recently discovered and become obsessed with the TV show, so I decided to check out the book. I like it a lot too, and it's fascinating to me to dissect the changes the show producers made from the original material and why they made those choices.

House of Velvet and Glass by Catherine Howe- this is okay, but it's taking me forever to read. I keep setting it aside in favor of something more interesting

The Shadow Scholar: How I Made My Living Helping College Kids Cheat by Dave Tomar- this is a really eye opening look into the paper-mill industry and how so many students are buying their papers. I don't agree with everything he has to say about colleges completely failing students, but me makes a convincing case.

Salt and Storm by Kendall Kulper - this is an ARC I got from ALA. I've just read a few pages, but I have a feeling I will love it.

I should read this, but I am guessing it would only make me more jaded about papers.

@muzikgrrl It isn't a bad book, but it just isn't something that I would ever pick up to read on my own.  I have absolutely no desire or interest to read it.  I just isn't my cup of tea.  But I know people who have raved about it.  I guess it is all a matter of personal taste.
