I have the ameda purely yours. I like it, easy to clean. What is different with the plus? Does your insurance cover the storage bags? I get 150 bags every 90 days which is awesome. I just have to call to order.
It looks like it just comes with more items, where as the basic one just comes with the pump and ac adapter.  I'm not sure about the storage bags.  Are the ones you get disposable?  The Medela pump looks like it uses reusable bags.

Honestly, I don't feel too confident about being able to breast feed period because of the reduction. :(

They are disposable, and you need quite a few of you plan to freeze a stockpile. The ones I get you cut to pour into the baby bottle. I pump into the bottles ameda came with and pour into the bags. I have the pump into bags attachment, but I don't use it. 1. Bottles are more accurate and 2. Bags fall over and I almost cried when I spilled one. Never again, I'll wash the bottles. Anyway, I store in the bags even if I'm going to use it. Just easier for us, but we go through the bags at a good pace.

You can get what is free and see what happens with you milk production.

You ladies are so lucky.  My insurance will only cover a pump if I am released from the hospital before the baby or if the baby is unable to nurse for a medical reason (ie a G tube.)  I just paid out of pocket for mine because I didn't want to wait.  Since I'm doing in home daycare I shouldn't have to pump much, unless I want to have a few cocktails....
  • I use a Medela Pump-in-Style Advanced. You can't go wrong with a Medela. At work I use a Medela Symphony. It's a hospital grade pump. I wish I owned one because it's super comfortable to pump with compared to my pump in style. Those who are worried about supply dropping, it will probably happen at least a little at some point. Your supply should even out between 3-4 months and that is completely normal. Caleb is 9 months old and I only get about 3-5oz when I pump now vs 6-8oz when I first came back to work. Remember that breastfed babies do not need more than 4oz at a time. They should be fed by paced bottle feeding and using a slow-flow or preemie nipple. That will keep them from overeating. Essentials for me are Pumpin' Pals shields and the Simple Wishes Hands Free Bra. Especially the bra. I'm large chested and it still works for me. I regret not buying it sooner.
  • @mbuckley85‌ - all good points. I've been freezing 3 oz bags and we've been pacing her bottle feedings. She sometimes paces herself now! My parents know they can give her an extra oz if she needs it. I'm lucky they are coming here so if they need more it's all in the freezer. After a week of pumping I got a hands free bra - best money spent!

  • @mrshall1027 I have the Medela PISA starter set.  It works fine.  I compared it to the ones in the store and the only big difference is it doesn't come with the bag.  I just use a regular tote bag and an insulated bag that I already have for storage.

For storage bags, I buy the Up & Up ones from Target.  They are pretty cheap and do the job, considering I am going to throw them away.

You may be able to breastfeed, don't get discouraged.  My SIL was able to get about an ounce when she pumped, but it took a while.  She also gave up pretty quickly, after a couple of weeks.  A lactation consultant may be able to help you get more of an output.

@mana8503 I can get about 6 oz from one boob in the morning if O doesn't feed on that side overnight.  Otherwise, I get about 6 combined.
  • I just started morning pumping since that's when E is more likely to play on her mat. It used to be afternoons. I get 5-7 oz total. When I pumped on our way to NC (giving her a bottle) I got 7-8. Not much more....
