Frontier $1 flights

Did anyone snag this deal yesterday? Frontier was selling $1 flights from some cities yesterday; after taxes if you didn't check a bag you could fly for $30 round trip. I didn't see an article about it until this morning, and we don't live near one of the included cities, but I'm interested if anyone else here saw it and took advantage.

Re: Frontier $1 flights

  • Ha I tried all day and couldn't get in!  Their website crashed with all the internet traffic.

  • I was going to check it out (we live 6 hours from Denver) but it said you have to fly between now and Sep. 16th or something like that.  No way was that going to work for us.
  • Oh, I hadn't heard about that!  My airport (NOLA) is NEVER included in any of those special flight deals, though, so I'm sure I didn't miss much, lol.  Interesting promo.

  • Bummer! Didn't see it. We live an hour from Denver (their main Hub) and there are usually lots of options. I usually get email alerts from Frontier, but it goes to my junk mail account. I will have to look out for a future opportunity.

  • I saw the deal, but not close enough to the airports they included and couldn't fly on the dates they listed. :(

  • We were on vacation and I was ready to start planning another!  Unfortunatey couldn't get in to their website.
  • I didn't hear about this because we were already on a frontier flight home! This is a great deal but I have to say that flying Frontier is a huge headache. DH signed up for their card for the 40,000 miles, which were supposed to be good for two round trip flights. We spent a considerable amount of time trying to get the two roundtrip tickets from Sea-Den and couldn't do it with just the 40,000. Finally a deal came along and we were able to. However, they charge for everything, even carry on bags($35) if it is bigger than a purse or back pack. They also wouldn't guarantee us seats together and we were only able to check in at the airport. I called the night before to try and check in and get a seat assignment of a window and middle. I was informed they have an assigned seat fee. It was important because I am still nursing DD. We didn't pay the extra. Overall when traveling as a family on more than a weekend getaway Frontier is not the airline that I would personally pick again.

Wow!  Thanks for the review.  That is a lot of fees that other airlines don't charge.  Which, I guess is fine, as long as I know them all up front and can take that into consideration when comparing their fares to other airlines.

Though, when it comes to "seat assignments", even when I can pick them out ahead of time...I often get assigned something else anyway.

But, unless I'm getting pretty discounted tickets, I better be able to sit next to my H.

Of course not, why would it be? It's the greatest city in the world! It's usually random, smaller cities like Tulsa or Albuquerque.

Edit- I know it's a good deal, but the issues I've had with Spirit and Frontier, you couldn't pay me to fly with them.

Lol, thanks!  I always assume it's the hub cities that get the best deals.  Or maybe the hub cities to a nearby-ish random city, lol.

For you Futurama fans out there...from the mermaid (with the Southern accent) episode..."Oh no Fry, the ancient city of Atlanta was more than just a Delta hub."

Lol. Delta bypassed Bham in favor of Atlanta, but when Delta was deciding between the two cities they were about the same size.  Now Atlanta is like 6x bigger.  Also home to CNN, Waffle House, Home Depot, Chick-fil-a, and UPS among others.

And Coke of course.  As a native Georgian, I kind of despise Pepsi.  It's literally the worst thing about Costco.

  • No problem! I was shocked and want to spread the info. They also charge $1.99 for a can of soda and have multiple snack packages available. The flight home didn't offer us a glass of ice water free of charge either. If I had known about these fees up front it wouldn't have been as bad for me. I really wanted a window seat so that I could nurse DD without her feet or head being in the aisle. The joke was on me because the seats were so small that I could only nurse her on one side. The other side her feet/legs were against the wall and she couldn't get comfortable.

    Oh nursing on an airplane....
My return flight from San Diego in April, I was placed in the middle seat between 2 very rigid business men.  I specifically chose a window seat so I could discretely nurse DD, but they switched me when I checked in at the airport.  Their explanation was that I was a single traveler, so it's easier to move me.
DD kept pushing her feet against the men while I was nursing her.  I don't think I said "I'm sorry" enough, but there just wasn't enough room to avoid it.

Geez!  Except you weren't a single traveler, you had your infant DD with you.  Even without the nursing issue, now you had to sit up in your seat with your DD on your lap the whole time with nothing to lean on.  Give parents a break for goodness sake!
