What do you guys think of the new boards?

All in all - do you like the new boards?

What do you like - what do you not like?

Re: What do you guys think of the new boards?

  • WHERE ARE MY NESTICLES!

ahem.  sorry.  I'm not even part of this local and thought I'd answer.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • I posted thoughts on the old board under Anni's post.
  • I don't like them, because they seem harder to read.  A big thing for me is that it does not seem to be un-bolding the titles of the threads I've seen the most recent replies of already.  That means I have to guess about what I've already read.  I also don't like that you have to open the thread and then scroll down to get to subsequent pages of the thread.  I liked the old way where you could click "2" or "3" on the main page.
  • I like all the new options while writing posts- how it spell checks and stuff like that.

I don't like that it has the wrong post count, and it is labelling me as  Newbie when I have been a member for sometime. I also don't like the errors it was giving me earlier, though I assume those will be fixed before this becomes the real board (server time out).

  • I feel that its much harder to read and i have to almost squint.   I do like that its set up with the avitar thing on the side.  I dont like how i cant just have the posts stay in the order that people post them not to who responds to them.
  • I don't like the Newbie label. I'm not one. I just don't post here frequently.

    The small font is annoying.

I don't like having to scroll down an entire page to click a number to get to page 2 or 3 of a post.

  • I also do not like the timeout message I get after every post still. That's enough to make me want to send me back into lurkerdom.
  • 1) The font should be changed because reading posts is really hard. I have good eyesight and I need to squint.

    2) The board takes a long time to load...it is slooooowww.

    3) I like the options when I am posting (spell check, bullets, pictures, etc).

    4) I don't like how post titles I have read do not unbold.

  • Another thought, I don't like how it doesn't automatically refresh.
  • I don't like the fact that none of these posts are showing up on the old board.....The only reason why I checked it out today was because someone on one of the national boards made a comment about it saying "newbie" when girls had been posting for 6 years...
  • I don't think there were really complaints about the old format. People just wanted the search function back!
  • I preferred the old look but I do like some of the options here. This old format was easier to read and keep up with what I had already viewed.
  • I like the new writing functions like spell check and smiley faces and adding a photo into your post.

But I hate all the white space and all the scrolling. It takes a lot of scrolling just to see 5 responses. Is there anyway to condense the replies. And the font is too small. I have to squint to read it and it is giving me a headache. Have you fixed the search function? That was the only thing any of us didn't like about the old board.

  • Ditto the other girls. The font is just too small - and the posts are so condensed because of all of the unnecessary stuff on the sides, especially the list of local boards on the left.

Also, things don't seem to line up very well - like our sigs under our posts. The sigs are wider than the post itself in some cases. It would be nice if it was all flush!

    Cruise Countdown Tickers
  • Between the side bar and the siggies, the new board really stretches things out!  It's really annoying how LARGE just on thread gets compared to the old board where it was more compact!

I like the new options while posting... spell check especially!  Except I just clicked on it and it wanted me download something... not into that at work!

    All in all, it's alright.

  • It will take some getting used to, but it's growing on me a little bit.  I think PIP will be a lot easier (if that little icon works), though.
  • I agree about the font.  It's too small.

I also agree about the bolding of title threads.  I want the titles to unbold if I've already read the last response.

I think that once I'm used to it I'm going to like the new layout though.

  • My feelings are basically the same as everyone elses. The font is just teeny, I'm going blind trying to squint to see it.

And I really hate being called a newbie when I've been on since 2003 and a pretty regular post.

  • I'm not really digging the new format.  I agree with the other girls re: the tiny font, the huge amount of space taken up by one single post, and the "newbie" tag.  As someone who spends more time on the national v. local boards, I also don't like that I have to go out to the Community tab to get to the national board listings.

  • I odn't like it either. Font is too small, and the bumping up feature is just annoying, too hard to keep track of posts.
  • The type is way too small and it's killing my eyes after only an hour of using this layout.? I also don't like the layout and the order of posts.? The old way was much more organized in my opinion.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I guess I didn't think we had any problems with the old board???  The entries definitely need to be condensed . . .I felt like I was scrolling way more than reading.  Ditto the other girls, font is way too small.  I do like the spell check and such.
  • I'm sorry, but I hate it.

Make the font bigger & stop that obnoxious "bumping" of posts & I'd be okay with it.

Truly, it's the bumping of posts that drives me apeshitbatty.

  • I like the smileys

    otherwise I don't like it.

I don't like the list of boards down the left side of the screen

I don't like that the text is smaller and that the subjects titles stay the same so I don't know what I read or didn't read.

I think the old board had a fresher funkier look

  • I also don't like how I'm being called a newbie and that I only have 120 something when I had way more

I don't like how wide it makes the screen - I'm at work and need to have the screen as small as possible!

  • Ditto everything pp's said. Font is way too small - giving me a headache just reading the responses to this post alone. I don't like that the post with the most recent response stays on top. And yes, the "newbie" versus "bronze poster" or whatever tags are annoying. I might not post very often, but I started on the knot in '03. I didn't find anything wrong with the old board...
  • This font is ridiculous. It's way too small and maybe it's the color, too? Like PP, just reading this one thread has started to give me a headache.

  • I like it overall. The new features are great! Most of the complaints the previous posters have can be fixed through changing viewing preferences, and instead of the topic titles being unbolded when you read them, the little piece of paper icon is. So really no big difference.

I only have two complaints. The first is the smaller font size, and the second is the COMPLETELY unnecessary "newbie" labels.

  • P.S. It should be a viewing preference whether to sort posts by topic date (like the old Nest) or by last reply. I think a lot of nesties on our board were upset about that.
  • The "newbie" designation is kinda annoying because really what you are trying to get at isn't how long someone has been around but how many posts they have made.  Now I created a new account when I got married and have only had this name for about 6 months, but you maybe need a classification for all of us who don't necessarily post aton everywhere.

Perhaps you should create another level such as a "white level" poster or something for thoes of us who don't post quite as often.
