Labmaraner (Labrador-Weim mix)
Does anyone have one of these? Any information on the breed? Obviously I've been researching online but would like to hear someone's actual experience/knowledge.
Re: Labmaraner (Labrador-Weim mix)
Ditto kellbell.
Besides I would never get a dog from a breeder. I was just curious.... they're beautiful dogs.
Ok, I'm sorry. I somewhat understand the desire for some of the mix breeds. But a lab and weim?
They both are extremely hyper and have to have a lot of stimulation to keep them entertained.
They both shed a lot.
They are both med-large dogs.
WHY mix the two?
Labmaraner? Oh, for goodness sakes.
It's a mutt, nothing more nothing less. No reputable breeder will breed these so please adopt one from a shelter if you plan to get one.
Awesome!
I've never heard of that mix, I'll have to google some pictures
Because people are crazy and greedy.
A "Labmaraner" does not exist, because it isn't a breed. Calling it that indicates that it is a breed, and encourages crappy breeders to produce them to meet a demand. Because they are a mix, there will be not predictable "traits." So any information you're finding about the mix is a total crap shoot. Read up on labs, read up on weims, and realize you may get any of those looks, traits, health issues, etc.
Both breeds are high energy - that's about as predictable as you can get.
Love.
What?! What kind of questions are those? How do you know my living situation and what I'm looking for/not looking for. Like I said I'm just getting information.
BTW... the dog in your siggy isn't the smallest thing I've seen lately.
No such "breed"
Any research you're doing online has been created by greedy people attempting to pass themselves off as "breeders" by creating mixed breed dogs/mutts. These kind of people of the worst of the worst...adding to the animal over population problem to satisfy their greed and make a few bucks. Stay far, far away.
Who on earth are you talking to?!?!
Assuming it's jlthompson, she posed one question twice - why would you mix the two breeds. They are too similar to HOPE to get something "better" out of the two. While any breeder mixing breeds sucks, at least, in theory, you'd maybe get a positive change out of the mix of some other dogs (like a poodle and a lab). With these particular two breeds, not the case.
Love.
Ok, from the top:
Are you looking at a specific dog?
Is the dog in rescue or from a breeder?
Why are you asking about this particular mix of dog?
If you're asking for experience with mutts, I adopted my lab / greyhound mix from my local Animal Control. She's a wonderful dog, though she does shed a LOT. She's small from being malnourished as a puppy (I adopted her at 5 months), though she came to me fully trained. She's the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever seen, and is now a trained therapy dog.
Honestly, I'm not quite sure what her mix really is, though she definitely has grown into more of a small greyhound shape since reaching adulthood. She has a lab disposition (sweet and loving) and labish facial features, and a yellow lab coat. She can run like a deer.
She's very high energy, so if you're looking to adopt some kind of lab mix from a shelter or rescue, I would make sure I have an active lifestyle.
GL!
There is no way to give you personal experience because they are mutts each one will be different. That is what everyone is trying to tell you. We can't tell you what they are like because there is no way to know.
A Spring Day on the Katy Trail
Excuse me? I was asking it generally, not to you. The questions I posed are "reasons" others breed two breeds together. Considering a lab and weim have similar characteristics, I was asking the proverbial you what "best of both worlds" a greedy breeder would try to get out of a weim and lab.
And, thanks, I realize my GREAT DANES aren't small. Kind of their point.
Information that everyone looking to obtain a mixed-breed dog should read (it focuses on poodle mixes but is applicable elsewhere):

I may be missing something but I don't see where anyone said you were adopting anything??? Regarding the personal experience you're looking for....THERE ISN'T ANY....because there is no such thing as "Labmaraner"...no such thing. Now, if you want personal experience from people who own mutts and mixed breeds....ask for it.
Wowza you girls sure do know how to jump down a persons throat based on wrong word usage.
So let me re-word my post:
The other day I saw a lady with a labrador and weim mix- I thought it was a very pretty dog and was just curious to know if anyone has had experience with them in the past. I know that all dogs can't be based of of general "breed" information so it's more of a case-to-case scenario with temperment (sp?) and such but like I said I was just curious...
So any information would be awesome
k thx
I guess I'm not sure what you're asking...your OP seemed to suggest this was a breed you were interested in. Which is why people responded by saying that it is not a breed, but a mix of two dogs that people trying to make a buck breed...aka, not a good idea.
Good that you plan on adopting.
However, using names like "Labmaraner" is not popular on here...as it promotes the concept that such mixes are breeds. Much better to adopt a mixed-breed than support the "hybrid" back yard breeder "industry."
As PP have said, no one can really provide information, since this breed doesn't exist...the best anyone can do is suggest that lab characteristics and weim characteristics could be present in the dog. It's a crapshoot as to which ones are most present.
Nobody jumped down your throat. It sounded like it was a breed you were interested in getting and all they want to do is give you advice as far as the breed - it doesn't exist.
You want to see 'jumping down someones throat', scroll back a few pages and read a few posts.
Fancy "designer names" are a hot button with us as it's horrible/bad "breeders" who come up with such names.
That being said:
I really can't think of one redeeming quality for having a lab/weim mix other than it would (possibly) be beautiful. They're both hunting dogs and so would need to be physically and mentally stimulated all.the.time. Not to mention you'd have mountains of shed hair to deal with. All I can envision is a hyper-active destructive dog. Weims tend to end up in rescue because people get them and then don't know how to train and/or handle them properly.
Why did you say ditto kellbell?
My favorite cloth diaper shop!
OP - Hi there. I understand why you're feeling defensive, but as the owner of a "designer dog" mutt (that I didn't get from a breeder, obviously)., I have to say that these ladies are right. A lot of puppy mills are specializing in designer dogs right now, and clearly since it's unpredictable it's resulting in a lot of discarded/mistreatment of the dog, as well as the general overpopulation. With "designer dogs" you get so much variation that it's hard to say how one will act, it truly just depends on the dog.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with loving a mutt that happens to be a cross between a lab/weim if it fits your lifestyle! I love my mutt that happens to be a cross between a pug/beagle. The only thing I would suggest is that if you do get one, make sure to let people know you adopted it, so that you're not inspiring other people who may not know what you do about breeders to go find a dog there.
