Re: does it irk you when people write 'xmas' instead of
exactly!
It might be the reason for your season, but Christ has nothing to do with my season. In my opinion it is a winter holiday that coincides approximaitely with solstice that we use to celebrate with family and friends.
I always type/write xmas. I shorthand other stuff too- it is nothing personal against xmas.
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.
Disclaimer: I am not an MD. Please don't PM me with pregnancy-related questions. Ask your doctor.
Yes. But I understand not everyone celebrates Christmas for that reason.
Runs and hides b.c its not YOUR reason. So sorry to give my own personal reason to why it bothers me that people write xmas or say Happy Holidays. My bad.
I have to agree with suzymarie on this one. It's the winter solstice for many people.
squeshia22 don't take offense that she's expressing her beliefs just bc they don't match yours. It's fine that you believe in Christmas in the Christain aspect, but you are pissed at others for doing the same thing you just did -- giving their opinion.
Also, it drives me NUTS when people say Happy Holidays. You have a holiday you celebrate, so say Happy or Merry it. Don't give me that PC bullshit.
Agreed, but dont jump down my throat b.c I am giving my opinion.
There was no reason for her to say that - I didnt refer to anyone elses post about whether they are bothered or not. hugs and kisses puppies and rainbows
lol...I didn't jump down your throat and she wasn't personally attacking you. She was using your point to make hers.
Someone's a little too touchy...
I am in a really foul mood. You will have to pardon me today. Like I really care anyways.
Yeah it's actually not.
"Xmas" and "X-mas" are common abbreviations of the word "Christmas". They are sometimes pronounced /'?ksm?s/, but they, and variants such as "Xtemass", originated as handwriting abbreviations for the correct pronunciation /'kr?sm?s/. The "-mas" part came from the Latin-derived Old English word for "mass".[1] The "X" in Xmas is from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of ???st??, Christ in Greek (see below).
It bothers me when people say it is!
Bio
MAYBE FOR YOU IT ISNT BUT IT IS FOR ME. Did you really think I needed an effing definition? I have Christian beliefs whether you do or not.
I really bothers me when ppl say it isnt!
I was just about to post this. You are my hero.
Well since you are saying Happy Holidays to give the person you are talking to well wishes it makes perfect sense to say Happy Holidays. I don't know the religion or preference of every person I meet. And LOL that being respectful to a person's preferences is bullsh!t.
No it doesn't.
The X comes from Xristos which is the Greek name for Christ.
She doesn't care about FACTS! It takes Christ out of Christmas for HER. lol
Aahhh but not American holiday is complete without the trivial, schismatic argument!!! What would Thanksgiving be without baby daddy drama, for instance?
Well it doesn't for me since I'm Greek. Greeks know everything and I'm the one who matters!
I dont need definitions of Xmas to give me facts of how I celebrate or what I call Christmas. Whether it is Greek or not.
Oh honey...
Deep breaths. Deep breaths.
Oh FFS.
GASP. So she really isnt making this up? Oh woe is me my world has ended.
okay, you're not making sense, and frankly, you're making people who celebrate Christ's birth on Christmas look bad.
lol
No it doesn't for this very reason
Besides if people want to celebrate the secular aspects of Christmas they have every right to.
It's not like Christ was born on December 25th anyways.
