Did you plan your wedding around sports?
This was a huge issue in my family. I ended up going with an April wedding to plan around football in the fall, basketball in the winter and March madness (plus snow), and Derby. When I picked the spring wedding, we had to do it three weeks before Derby to avoid all the festivals and increase in flowers, etc. I was curious if sports effected your plans too.

Re: Did you plan your wedding around sports?
I made every attempt to do so, but I failed. EPICALLY.
I have always wanted a fall wedding. At the beginning of our wedding planning, my husband and I got out Florida's football calendar and settled on October 18, the bye-week. Mom and I went to St. Augustine to scope out / book some venues, and discovered that my favorite reception venue had an opening on October 18. The morning we were going to book, we got a call from the reception coordinator -- October 18 was gone. LAME. (This venue was really the only place in St. Aug that would hold our guest list.)
This led to a flurry of phone calls, wherein we must have changed our date 5-6 different times, depending on the availability of our RD, ceremony and reception venues. It became apparent that November 1 was the only date on which ALL venues had openings. November 1 also happens to be Florida's biggest regular season game, Florida-Georgia. (And, this game happens to occur in Jacksonville, about 10-15 mi. north of St. Augustine.)
So, yeah. Fail. But our F&F are the best, and they came out in full force (after some 'gentle' ribbing about our choice of date, of course.
) The Gators gave me a wonderful wedding present that day, though: a 49-10 win over our biggest rivals!
Absolutely. We got married in early May, so we avoided football and basketball seasons. We actually went to the courthouse early so we could meet the deadline to apply for student+spouse football tickets.
Side note: my friend got married in 2006. She set the date of April 1st. I told her that was the day of the Final Four and jokingly said that if the Gators made it, I would not be a bridesmaid. We all laughed b/c it seemed like a longshot. Well, the Gators made it and I was superpissed. I was still in the wedding, and i only missed part of the game. There was a TV at the reception thankfully.

"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
We did think about it, but we set out date long before sports schedules (NFL and college football) came out, so we couldn't schedule around anything.
I did INSIST on having the TVs in the wedding venue bar turned on, though, since there was college football and MLB playoffs on. I guess a lot of brides request that the TVs be turned off.

We got married in May so I knew football wouldn't be an issue, but I never took into account the NASCAR All-Star race being the night we got married. I survived, though.
I never did count on the NBA playoffs, either, but the Magic played on the Thursday before and the Sunday after our wedding. We went on our honeymoon over a week later and I kid you not, one night was spent in the hotel room flipping between the Magic-Cavaliers NBA Eastern Conference Finals game and Florida in the Women's College World Series. I take my sports seriously.
HAHA I would have been the same way.

I think that's pretty cool!
We picked our date that was the only day our two favorite hockey teams played each other. They only played once that season....so we were praying for a saturday or sunday and we lucked out.
Our wedding colors were the teams colors, and we planned on going to the game after the wedding.

I wish we had. We picked a December wedding date. We booked our ceremony and reception sites. Booked our photographer and florist.
Then we went to reserve a block of rooms, and realized it was the weekend of the Army/Navy football game. We had a HELL of a time finding a hotel to block rooms for us.
And traffic was GRIDLOCKED the day of our wedding.

Yes. We wanted a fall wedding but I refused to give up a Saturday of football.
So I planned it on a Saturday when the Hawkeyes were away (at Illinois). We won
I also had my hair done SUPER early in the morning (for a 6 pm wedding) so that I could sit and watch the entire game. I have priorities.
