Did you plan your wedding around sports?

Re: Did you plan your wedding around sports?

  • We were originally going to get married in April but due to money, we did September. My husband is a HUGE fan on Penn State but married me on game day anyhow. That was his way of showing me how much he loves me.

  • Definitely!  We didn't really have any specific date in mind but DH's only stipulation was that it had to be before college football season started so we chose July.  The day of our wedding while I was getting my hair & makeup done we sat watching College Football Live on ESPN. Smile

  • Not specifically.  It was one of the reasons we chose our date, though.  We wanted warmer months and not during the summer, so we were either going to do May or September and went with May, in part because we didn't want to miss an Ohio State game on a Saturday.

Got married on November 11th which was Alabama's bye week and also was the date of the first Alabama football game back in 1892.

    I think that's pretty cool!

My husband did not.  He was horrified when he found out (during the reception when my uncle made note that a proper bama girl of course would know to respect tide history. I with the photographer could have gotten a shot of his face as he turned and asked what tide history had to do with our wedding.  Horrified.

His family didn't care too much about the date being in the fall (except they were concerned that it would fall into some hunting season) seeing as they are Kentucky fans and Kentucky football isn't much to get excited about.

Fuuck TTC - I'm moving on.

"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
  • We planned our wedding around the Gator's football schedule. We got married during the bye week last year. That week worked out great for all of the football fans that attended the wedding. The gators were off, FSU played on a Thursday and the Jags had a bye.

  • I always wanted an early summer wedding so sports weren't really a concern when setting the date.  We got married at the beginning of June.  We are big college football fans and college basketball fans - everything else we watch, but they aren't a big priority like fb or bb.

I do, however, get a little discouraged when friends/family schedule their weddings during football season.  Specifically, when people from my home town (Columbia - where mizzou is) schedule their weddings on a Mizzou home game day.  Oh well.

  • Yes but my husband works for NASCAR so we had no choice.

If we had gotten married locally the Gold Cup (Virginia's version of the Kentucky Derby) probably would have affected hotel availability and flower prices.

  • Sort of... we planned a summer wedding to avoid football season, but had it the opening weekend of the college world series here in Omaha....

  • Yes, we married in July so to not have to do it during football season. We're crazy NFL freaks.
  • Yes. Getting married  in the fall was not an option (football).
