Re: I was just fired. NFT.

  • SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!!

    WTF???

  • ::packing kill bag::

  • That was certainly unexpected.  Why?Embarrassed
  • Part of me isn't surprised. The last 2 months were very rough and I had some issues. At the same time, I was given a very short timeline to meet quite a few deadlines. I also think part of it had to do with being pregnant (although I'd never ever be able to prove it). It was given a hard time about doctor's appointments, and it was always brought up.

I'm so freaking scared though. They will let me file for unemployment. But how the hell am I going to find another job? I'm 21 weeks pregnant. No one will hire me. I won't get any maternity leave. There is no way I can get a job in the same industry right now because of being pregnant.

  • But honestly, I think if they could have...they would have gotten rid of me months ago. I like this job, I like the company as a whole, I like the projects I worked on but both of my two managers never liked me despite telling me that my work was great.

Oh and get this, I've been told numerous times by people I work with (not people employed with the company) that I was wonderful. Feck, I won awards for it.

  • Is being a SAHM for a little while an option?
  • i think DG was able to get hired while visibly pregnant. i think you'll be okay once the initial shock wears off.

    i'm sorry this happened.

  • File a claim anyway about being fired for being pregnant.  You have nothing to lose.  Gather up those emails before they delete your account about yoru appointments and contact EOE, HR and your local government agency.  I thing the general attorneys' office handles this.  Also get on the bump, they might have resources to help you.
  • Since when did being pregnant=being a leper?  Jerks.

  • you may have some recourse if you have good evals, and recongnizable accomplishments.

and hold out hope for getting rehired.  my current job hired me at 7 months.

    ugh, this effing sucks.

  • {{{{{Meg}}}}}  New Year, new start.

Also, Fthem.  Azzholes.  Who does that schit to a preggo in the holiday season?

  • So sorry, Pmeg. What a shiiity time and situation. Hopefully something will come up...
  • Stinky, being a SAHM would kill me. I can't do it, I have to work.

Financially, we also need me to work. I think I'm going to start applying to places like Target or just entry level jobs. I wanted to go back to school, and if I can at least get full-time some place, maybe that will be more of a reality. I'm just trying to find the positive in this. But it sucks. The week after fecking Christmas. I mean come on...why not make it next week or something.

  • I agree with Busy, it can't hurt to try. Even if it was only one part of why they fired you, it shouldn't have been at all.

  • Ugh. On the bright side, you guys aren't in a position that this will immediately cause a dramatic change. Take a few days to chill and work on your resume, start gathering accolades and you'll find something new quickly. You do something very specific, and you're good at it. They probably won't even care that you're pg.

  • I'm so sorry. That blows x a zillion.

Ditto others on being a SAHM for awhile/filing that you were fired b/c you were preggo.

Thankfully you'll be able to get unemployment in the meantime.

  • WOW!  I'm so sorry.  That's such BS.  I agree with the others, explore your options to file a case against them.  Also, take all your awards, kudos, e-mails telling you you're awesome and start going through them.  This is a load of BS.  Feckers.
  • That sucks, I'm so sorry to hear. Sad
  • Gah, I'm sorry to hear that meg. Miserable bastards. I hope you find something soon.

  • look into building a case in terms of you were an awesome employee and it was due to pregnancy

unemployment isn't totally awful - you won't be as bad off as you think - trust me. I know it's scary, especially with the baby on the way, but try to relax a little.

DH got laid off in Feb and didn't find something until April. We cut back on non-essentials (shopping trips, casino, dinners out) and still managed to save money while he was out of work. DH was getting the max unemployment possible, and it was stil less than 50% of his salary. He lost his job again in Nov and luckily was only out of work for 2 weeks.

I would have been laid off had i not accepted the position in TX.

Don't push too hard on the Target or PT jobs - if you work too much, you won't get your full unemployment amount.

If you need to talk to someone who has been through this twice in the last year, please send me a FB message.

  • I have this whole week off... Call me if y
