Ochocinco...funny or annoying?

Sorry this may have been discussed before but, I'm fairly new and haven't seen it.

Do you think Chad's antics are funny to watch or annoying to hear about?

  • Annoying!

  • Funny, and my husband agrees. Ochocinco is an AW, but he knows it and owns it.
  • Annoying. He's getting paid to play football, not distract the players with  his sideline antics.

    This.

While watching Andrea Kremer report yesterday, though, I wondered how hard it is to say his name without laughing on camera.

  • I agree...he definitely stands out in a sport that takes itself too seriously sometimes...he doesn't hurt anyone either. I thought trying to bribe the ref with a dollar was hilarious.
  • In general, annoying, but I just noticed on last nights game that he says he is from "THE Oregon State." And I find that hilarious.
  • I think he is pretty funny and definitely adds an entertainment value to the sport. The "No Fun League" has really cut down on the celebrations and while I think that huge celebrations that take up too much time might not be right, celebrations certainly add to the entertainment side.

On a side note, I follow him on Twitter and while some of his updates are a bit crazy, I had no idea he did so much for his fans. He frequently will post an update saying something like "to my fans: meet me at ____ restaurant, first 75 people get dinner on me" and then he will post a picture later of him with his fans. He has also taken fans out shopping and to the movies.  As a professional athlete, he could be out in the clubs or partying but he chooses to spend some of his free time with his fans and showing them how grateful he is. I really appreciate that and think it is pretty cool.

    love it!

  • It depends on my mood and what exactly he's doing.  I do refuse to call him Ochocinco.  I just stick with Chad now.
  • Funny. I love how that pointed out last night that he may be umm interesting with his on-field antics, but he's never in trouble off the field.

This is true.  I have been touting this fact for years.  He doesn't even drink.  The guy goes to clubs and drinks cranberry juice or Red Bull.

I didn't know that, very cool!

    This.
  • Funny, but then again I am a Bengals fan.

Cinnabun and Junebug say, "Go Wildcats!"

  • I think he's annoying, but at least he's not a felon, getting caught with guns and drugs or beating on women like some other ball players.

Although I do blame him (and a few others) for the tighter rules on celebrations.  If they didn't take their antics so far, the NFL might still be fun.

  • I really don't find him funny or annoying actually..funny from the girl with him in her sig...I think he is a very talented player who when he is on he is spectacular and when he is off he is awful..I think that he does bring some playfulness into a game where the fun has been taken away by NFL regulation

he pays his fines, gets a little air time and doesn't hurt me..so rock on Ochocinco

  • I think he's funny. Like pp have said, he doesn't get in trouble off the field and is a good player. He's just having fun and while he does talk a lot of crap he has a good sense of humor and can also take it.

  • Both. Annoying for sure, and funny but only because I laugh at him, not with him. What a self-absorbed idiot.

He's been known to go beyond "antics"....after the Bengals' loss to the Steelers in November, for example, he threw a hissy fit and made a point of stepping on a Terrible Towel. That's disrespectful, and it's poor sportmanship.

New here, thought I might throw in my .02  I think he's funny.  However, I doubt I would think that if I weren't from Cincy.  What a lot of  people don't realize is that he is just playing.  A lot of the time, when he has singled out a specific opponent to trash talk, they are actually friends off the field.  Off the field, he is pretty quiet and very generous.  Twice this season he has bought the remaining tickets to home games and given them away to avoid blackouts.

If he were an @$$ he would have made a stink about Lewis' brutal/ cheap shot on him earlier this season...instead he asked the NFL not to fine him.  Again, they're friends off the field- which is how Lewis got involved in the whole mustard joke.

BTW- I am amazed at how obnoxiously rude and out of line Steelers fans (obviously not all, but on average...and not that there aren't obnoxious Bengals fans) are everytime we play them.  There are not other teams that compare, so I don't feel too bad about the Terrible Towel stomping.

Are there rude Steeler fans? Certainly, but this post isn't about fans, it's about players. When is the last time you saw anyone on the Steelers roster intentionally abusing another team's symbol?

this is what I LOVE about him! I'm a Bengals fan anyways, but I love how much he does to show everyone how much they're appreciated.

He keeps himself out of trouble (aside from fines from the NFL) too.  He talked a lot of trash to the Jets Fireman guy...the one that controls the crowd at their home games...before the game last week.  He found a way to get ahold of him and got him seats to tonight's game.  He said it was the least he could do after the hard time he gave him.  I think that's great.

  • I vote annoying. But since he was on my Fantasy team this year I almost gave him a "funny" vote.

My team was "The Drama Queens"- so Ocho Cinco DEFINITELY made the cut, LOL

This is just stupid to me.  Just like the member of the Eagles organization who spit on the Cowboys star.  Who cares?  To be offended by someone stomping on your stupid towel?  This is soooo stupid.

I'm as die hard of a Vikings fan as there ever could be, and I don't give a crap if you spit on our field, stomp on our horns.. I don't care.  That's so dumb.  It's all for show.  Anyone who is offended by that kind of crap is a crybaby pusssy.

God God, calm down. To imply that I was "offended" is an exaggeration, and the pusssy comment is uncalled for. From your response it seems to me that you're the one who's too easily offended.

To get back on topic - the question in the OP was if OC's behavior was funny or annoying. I stand by annoying. And since these guys are being paid millions a year to play a game, (like Dr Loretta said) you better believe I hold them to a certain standard of behavior. It's called sportsmanship.

Wow chill out, I wasn't saying you were offended.  I heard that a lot of people got their panties in a bunch of the Cowboys star.  Obviously some people got their panties in a bunch over 85 stomping on a towel.  I was just saying it's dumb to get offended over that.  And I do think someone who gets upset over their teams symbol is a pusssy.

  • Not to mention that to them, it's a business and a job.  Most players aren't incredibly tied to their team mascots, symbols, whatever.  They have to keep the mentality that they are never anywhere to stay.  "Just part of the business" when they get cut, picked up, etc by another team.  So, was it childish to stomp on a towel? Yes.  Big deal? Absolutely not.  I am sure there was a back story to it.  And poor sportsmanship isn't just the players, it's between coaches as well, which I think is worse than amongst players.

This bothers me not at all.  It's the Steelers.
