Typical use is about 50% effective. Perfect use is nearly 70%. Perfect use means he never accidentally ejaculates inside of you, even a drop. It may also mean he doesn't precum, but that is pretty hard to tell while you're actually having sex.

I read an article not too long ago, not sure where though, that stated that the pull out method, used perfectly every time was actually just as reliable as more convential birth control methods.
However, I consider the pull out method as the method for people who don't care whether they do, or do not get pregnant!
DH and I have used FAM for four years with no pg. He does not ejaculate during sex easily so I almost always follow intercourse with oral sex for him. obviously this would cut our chances of getting pg.
Use an actual method, I really like FAM, but if you don't want to get pg then take an active role.
