Dumb Question Amnesty Day - what's your question?
Re: Dumb Question Amnesty Day - what's your question?
pwned = owned. Like when you kick someone's asss. (Think like, "you just got schooled boy!" or some other phrase)
hmm...
how is it pronounced? "powned?" or p w ned? I don't get it.
Gamers would hate me.
I've often wondered this. I think its because they want to do a promotion for someone already working for them but they still have to post it. Its just a formality.
Where ya lookin?
I'm still looking for a permanent position with the AG. They don't have any relevant posts lately, but still a ton for other areas. I've also been looking with DFPS. I interviewed for what could be the last spot before the freeze kicks in til September last week! Keeping my fingers crossed!!
My Bio (wedding pics added 7/6)
My 101
Ohhh!!! FX for you!!!
If two people arrive at exactly the same time I think the person on the right goes first.
yup, more gaming lingo, I think it was originally a mispelling in a game.
WORD.
I want to know what Nest/Bump points are for as well.
Oh, and what does IIRC mean??
Meredith, 6-1-06 and Alex, 11-5-09
If I recall correctly.
(I spend too much time online.
)
I asked DH and he said it's govt first: federal, state, county and then city. After that whoever moves first (shouldn't be turning left) and then the person on their right, etc.
I have often wondered this!
Me too. Its just a hunk of plastic within city limits. It is nice when driving to west TX though
.
re: the birth control glasses
I emailed my DH (a Marine) about this. He said that in the Marines (he can't speak for any of the other branches) there is no requirement to wear them outside of boot camp. If you see a Marine wearing them, odds are he:
can't currently afford (or refuse to pay for) a new pair
hasn't had the time to go in for a new pair/ would rather use his free time to do something else besides go in for a new pair
is on the firing range daily and doesn't want to mess up a good pair
As far as why they don't put in contacts- My DH didn't wear glasses before going to boot camp. He thought his vision was fine. So, he didn't have a pair on contacts (or other glasses) going into the Marines to swap out. That might be the case w/ some of the guys/ gals that you see. If they haven't been home between boot camp and their MOS or SOI, they might just have to make due w/ military issued until they are stationed somewhere.
Powned is the right way to say it out loud. It's said aloud quite a bit in this little gem (NSFW!!!!):

Sometimes I pin stuff
Nest Anni made a post today that anyone with over 12,000 posts would get a free Nest magazine. So maybe they're beginning to incorporate rewards.
My question: when people put "wolla" in posts, are they intentionally not writing "voila?"
I think they just don't know any better personally....
I think they just don't know any better personally....
I know the ones who write "viola" don't.
I guess I have 10 free issues coming.
Ahh, that makes sense. I think it's hilarious they're called "Birth Control Glasses"
Posts, not points.
I have no idea what the points are for. Maybe boxticles?
this.
Apparently there is an app for iPhone that will detect the best station around you for using an FM Transmitter. I don't know the name of the app, but DH uses it and hasn't had any complaints with using his iPhone through the radio.
My mom is a director at a state agency and from what I understand the jobs are posted so the department doesn't lose the funding for that position. Even if there is a hiring freeze, the department doesn't want to give the legislature and reason to not fund the position in the next funding cycle, so the job gets posted.
It's sort of a holding place for "use it or lose it."
I think it's a joke - I called out some nestie for posting wolla on the national boards and basically got ripped a new one.
I've seen jealouse a few times (as a joke) - someone a long time ago meant to write jealousy but put an e instead of a y.
on another local board, we joke about it and put jealousE (meaning I am jealous).
This is a great post and I hope I'm not too late in posting. Lately, I've heard many people referring to others who are annoyed or whatever as being "butt hurt."
Where did this come from? Do you guys hear this or do I just have weird friends? For whatvever reason, it annoys the hell out of me.
Also, I'm glad someone asked about the iPhone signal thing. I've been curious about that and I'm searching for the app.
Why are the buttons on men's shirts on the other side?
And what does PSA mean again?
I thought the buttons were on the other side of the men's shirt because when they were invented only wealthy people could afford them. Ladies that were wealthy had maids to help them get dressed, so the buttons were applied to the other side so that they faced the maid. Men dressed themselves.
PSA= Public Service Announcement
Hey another internet lingo thing I can answer! Butt hurt is what happens when someone is too sensitive to be on the internet.
Say I go to a nest or knot board and my first post is that it's three days before my wedding and I need to fire my maid of honor because I specifically said I wanted PINK and CORAL for my bridal shower colors and she decorated in coral and rose and OMG I have to fire her, what do I do? And then a number of Nesties/Knotties trounce all over me for essentially being an idiot because 1) you don't fire a maid of honor, 2) you don't get sympathy for complaining about someone throwing you a party and 3) coral and pink, really?
And of course I come back and call them all b!tches and cry about how it's so important that my bridal shower have coral and pink because they were my dead cat's favorite colors, etc... <---THAT is butt hurt. It's getting your feelings hurt over people telling you what's what on the internet. Usually, you deserve it.
It usually results in a flounce. Commonly known around here as a GBCN (Good-bye cruel Nest) where in someone posts that they are done with the Nest forever and they take their toys and go home.
