Girl Power!!!!!

McCain announced his running mate today, Sarah Palin Gov of Alaska. The first female on the presidential ticket...whoohoo.

I read over her biography and I am impressed. Now just want to see what she stands for!!! I dont like that her husband works in the oil industry.

Re: Girl Power!!!!!

  • Oh, and I forgot to say I am soooo sooo glad he didn't pick Crist.
  • I saw a couple of things she stands for and I have opposite views on those.

In a way I kind of wish he would have picked Christ so we could get a new Governer but if he ended up winning then it could be bad!

  • I don't want to get flamed, but I honestly think Palin is a joke. I am just in shock and awe . . . I really can't believe that the Republicans thought that Palin would sway Hillary voters and/or women in general.

I have looked at her thoughts and opinions -- let's just say there are a lot of holes in her views. (or if she made known her views, they scare me!)

I can't wait until all of this over and we really get change!

  • Thanks, Stumpy. I love it when you say exactly what I want to say- saves me a lot of typing. I will add- "girl power" does NOT fit Palin's stance on at least one important issue.
  • I agree with Stumpy too. I think it was the way he is trying to sway Hillary's voters- which I hope they don't fall for.

I also agree with whoever said that about Crist... I was almost hoping he picked him, but then I don't want Mckain to win, but if he did--- then we'd be rid of Crist, and I'd really like to be rid of him. He wants to cut the education budget by MORE, and he used to be in charge of education for the state of Florida. I just feel like he is not for the people at all.

I think Mckain would be a definite loser in Florida if he picked Crist because most of Florida wouldnt vote for him, of course, unless they voted for him to get him out of FL to get a new Gov. lol.

  • I always forget this board is full of a bunch of democrats.Stick out tongue

While I admit it was an odd choice, McCain is being a politician. Personally I felt that if Obama wanted to gaurantee a win he should have choose Hillary as his mate but I feel he was wanting to capture a different audiance of people. Therefore, I dont see how McCain using this angle is any different then Obama's approach to it. Why wouldn't a politician try to use his strongest angle. Of course Obama supporters wont see it that way.

Palin is a mother of 5...(her oldest is enlisted in the Army) and on top of becoming the first woman to hold office in AK she has been an active mother who appears to be involved in her kids lives. She has done some impressive things while in office. Some of her accomplishments look pretty liberal to me. I dont know, having a list of accomplishments like hers on top of a good family= "girl power"...heck, she even runs marathons. Obviously some arent going to agree with her political views but you cant deny she is a pretty impressive chic.

  • As far as Crist...IF McCain wins, I would imagine he would put him on his cabinet. Then we can say sayonara to that jackass!

Why is it that as soon as Crist takes office the entire state is broke?

Gosh i was tired last night, i totally spelled Mccains name wrong. lol I have a student with last name McKain...thats why. lol

Well, I dont think he picked Hillary because that'd be weird. She said some stuff that wasnt exactly "friendly"... and she is a major player. If he picked her it would almost be like a "joint presidency" in my mind-- not what he wants, he wants to be president. Also, a lot of people really hate Hillary.... so, who knows. I love her myself.

Why is our state broke as soon as Crist takes office? Well our nation isn't much better... maybe its whose running it. Maybe we need a CHANGE. I think obama will win, not because I'm a democrat but because I know many many people- even lots of republicans I know want a CHANGE and don't see McCain as that. They see it as an extension of the current....

We will see.. I'll be happy when its all over personally and if McCain wins I will defintely be more "okay" with it if he takes freaking Crist and we get someone who cares a smidge about our state.

  • I am actually an Independent!

  • While I do like her as a person, I'm actually kind of disappointed he chose her because strategically I don't think its a good choice for him to beat Obama.

She is so far right wing she won't take any votes away from Obama, its a joke to think Hillary supporters would vote for her because she's a woman, and she's not known enough to pick up any swing states.

All in all, I think it was a bad decision.  I think he should have chosen someone that would have taken votes away from Obama rather than someone who would get more Right wing Republican votes.

My theory is Republicans will always vote Republican because they'd rather vote for a middle of the road republican than a radically left Democrat like Obama.

Big mistake on the Republican side unfortunately.

It was a good thing he didn't pick Hillary because then he'd be like a token president and the Clintons would basically be running the white house instead of him.  I think it was a good choice to not choose Hillary on his part.

I like Obama though I don't agree or disagree with everything he says.  I'm just worried this "change" he's talking about is going to take us away from being an independant, free, nation where people have control over their lives a coddled socialist one where the government calls the shots.  That would be the end of what America was founded on.

We'll see how things goes.  Let the best man win.

  • I'm registered Independent, too, and I don't side with either party very well. This election will be a lesser-of-two evils choice for me, but, they all have been in my voting lifetime.
  • imageKappaUCF20:
I'm technically a registered Republican, but I won't be voting that way this year.  I think choosing Palin was a mistake (just my opinion).  McCain is getting up there in age and if something happens to him, we'll end up with a president who basically has no experience whatsoever with foreign policy.  That scares me (surely there had to be a more qualified VP candidate out there, right?).  She's also too conservative for my taste.  For a while I was conflicted as to who I wanted to vote for but now that McCain has chosen Palin, my decision has been made.

I am democrat and I have been conflicted this year too. As someone said the better of two evils it feels... but I really do think Obama has a serious chance at this because so many Republicans are like you. Although the very right-wing Republicans are still bashing Obama, a lot are realizing that maybe McCain isnt the right person for the job.

I guess we will wait and see. I know lots of people who say they arent going to vote. I considered that, but I do feel its my duty to vote, but then at the same point, if there isn't anyone worth voting for--what do you do??

  • Yes...the lesser of two evils. I often wonder if we will have an election in my lifetime that wont be that way. Not voting certainly isn't the answer either...ah, what to do. McCains age is a huge issue.

    I vote for Jimmy Buffet..haha!

  • I think it'd be awesome if everyone wrote in Hillary! haha....

I live in St. Cloud and there is this old guy running his own campaign for president, he doesnt seem to care that it isnt going anywhere. Its kind of funny.... we could write him in to be nice, haha :)

    I vote for Jimmy Buffet..haha!

    Oh....I smell a siggy button!!

  • Obama didn't pick Hillary b/c of baggage . . . he didn't want to have to ride the coat tails of Bill. (Let's face it, Bill and Hillary go together)

I think Joe Biden is an excellent choice. I think Palin is joke. She doesn't  even have her parties respect -- let alone this or a foreign country.

McCain was forced into this decision b/c he thought he could get Hillary voters. Hello!!??!!!??? Women who voted for Hillary would never vote for this woman. (They are polar opposites) Heck, McCain doesn't even think women should get equal pay -- and now he "wants" a woman VP? Please, you know he was forced into the decision. He didn't even know the women beforehand and how can you really tell if you "mesh" if you only met her once? It's just insane.

I don't think Obama is the lesser of two evils . . . I have felt that way in other elections, but not this one. Do I agree with everything he wants or says? No, but it is pretty darn close.

I am so looking forward to some change. We really need to repair the damage that has been done . . . go Obama!

  • I guess for me, I'm just scared of Obama for some reason. I'm really not sure why---but I am.

My mom is a lifelong democrat and she refuses to vote for Obama, i'm not sure why...

You know what I find funny- all the Republicans i work with hated the idea of a women president, even the women. They said very mean and nasty things about Hillary; but now here is a VP potential that is a woman--makes me wonder what they are going to say on Monday at work lol :)

But for what reason did your coworkers trash Hilary - are you saying it's becasue she's woman? Or is it because she's a democrat? Or a Clinton? Or because of her actions? (the last two reasons are the ones I 'd never have voted for her)

That said, I'm a registered Independent too. I used to be a Democrat, but since the Clinton administration I've been sorely disappointed with that party. I actually wish Ron Paul was a still a candidate.

  • sadly most people I know trash her because she is a woman and they think a woman should not be president---women are "moody"- blah blah blah.... not because of her politics.

I work with a bunch of Republican teachers. They are very very strong about their views. So much as the other day right in front of me (they know im a democrat) saying that no democrat has more than an 85 IQ.... grrrr.... I just sit there and don't really say much. I'm not much into fighting over politics--- I do find it all interesting, but I find no need for nasty comments at the workplace over it, you know?

I liked Hillary. I would have voted for her. Oh well... lol

  • I can admire Hillary but I wouldn't vote for her because she's way too radical to the left and I would never vote for anyone with socialist undertones.  I'm not trying to follow in Europe's footsteps.  That's not what America is about.  But that's just my opinion.

I would have liked McCain to have chosen Leiberman or maybe Romney.  Obama tries to say that McCain is another Bush when that is sooo false.  That is so false that he had to get a super right wing conservative female from Alaska to be his running mate in order to appease the Rightwingers who didn't think he was conservative enough for their taste.

Not to mention that he's voted over party lines more than almost any other Republican.  I just hate the propaganda.

  • FWIW, let's not overlook the fact that Palin is in the middle of an ethics scandal in Alaska.

    http://tinyurl.com/62qc9n

Not that any politicians are 100% ethical, but if I were on the fence (which I'm not), that would be the deciding factor for me. No need to have anyone a heartbeat away from the Presidency (especially given McCain's age) who is already having ethics issues.

  • I hadn't had a chance to read up on that. thanks for posting it. Ya, I dont know why McCain would pick someone already being investigated in....
  • I ?must say that I was on the fence about voting until McCain picked his running mate. I am voting McCain in 08. Obama, although I agreeed with SOME (and very few I might say) of his issues, I find him a little too liberal. I think he is promising WAY to much. Also, I think his wife will be a total nightmare as the first lady.

I thought McCain had shot himself in the foot with this one but after hearing her speak, I find her perfect. I agreed with a lot of her point in her speech. Great job McCain. I also think that someone who has served in our armed forces should be Commander and Chief as they have been in the soliders shoes.

I am also tired of Obama's low blows. McCain doesn't know how many houses he has - his brother lives in a shack and he won't take care of him - why would he take care of me?!?

  • Wow, I've really enjoyed reading this post.  You all make great points!

My candidate dropped out awhile ago, so I'm stuck in the same place I've been since I've been old enough to vote: the good 'ole lesser of 2 evils situation.  What makes me wonder about Obama is this whole "change you can believe in" thing: I'm still unsure WHAT kind of change he's talking about!  He's very likable and it's easy to get swept up in his speeches, but I'm just not hearing enough specifics!  Last time everyone voted for the likable guy it didn't work out so well  Tongue Tied

I'd like to know more info on HOW McCain is different than Bush.

  • Here is a funny video from the Daily Show on Palin

    http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=183521&title=john-mccain-chooses-a-running

Oh, I had to laugh at the "no Democrat has a higher IQ than 85." Hello? The current President can't even complete a full sentence!

Yeah and its a good thing Obama can actually complete a sentence.  Giving great speeches is imperative to being a good President.  You have to deliver a magical message whether you can actually do it or not.

Sorry stumpy, had to throw that one in.  Love the video though thanks for sharing it was really hilarious.

I agree that its ridiculous to think Hillary voters would even consider voting for Palin who is completely opposite of her.
