I'm so jealous of your trip to Le Bernadin!  I've wanted to try it forever.  Please give a review!

One piece of advice a friend gave me on Le Bernadin (and really any fancy pants restaurant) is not to do the wine pairing, unless you have a high tolerance.  She and her H did it and she got too drunk to appreciate the food.

This is sage advice, especially since I'm such a lightweight anymore.

I never do the wine pairings for t hat exact reason.  The French Laundry sommelier was awesome and suggested a couple of great glasses that carried us through several courses.  Alinea seemed more confused by this idea but worked it out.

Sometimes, and I know it is tacky I just don't care, Mr. Mod and I split the wine pairing. It only works if we're both doing the tasting menu but hey.

The French Laundry offered that as an option when we discussed it.  They had seriously awesome service.

ETA: I meant to say that if TFL offers it, it can't be tacky.  By definition.

I guess I think it is tacky for us because we don't say anything about splitting it. We just do.
