Re: It's Friday Randoms

  • Chymes, my parents lived in KC for two years while my dad was in med school. I went out to visit ten a few times and think you and XN could adjust. Of course there is MLB and it's a pretty big city. To me it felt bigger than GR, but not crazy busy like Chicago. My mom loved the weather (milder winters, lots more sunny days), but they cancer bad ice storms. Do you like steak and other barbecue meats? That's big down there. You are also not far from the Ozarks and some inland lakes. I think KC is only about a 10hr drive from GR and closer to XN's family in CO than you are now. KC probably wouldn't be at the top of my list of places to move, but it wouldn't be at the bottom either.
  • I was offline most of yesterday afternoon and evening, and I'm just now checking back.

Chymes, congrats on the interview!  I think it can be hard to get a good feel for a person and a company over a phone interview.  Hopefully a second interview would make you feel better about the company (if that's what you want).

Des&Molly, I get your vision for a lake house (although I agree that particular lake looks kind of scummy).  My uncle has a cottage on an inland lake and I have so many great memories from spending time there in the summer.  We had so much fun.  B and I have talked about buying it from him if/when he decides to sell it.  We haven't crunched the numbers yet (because he's never talked about selling), and I know the second home and lakefront taxes would suck, but if we could swing it, I think it might be worth it.  It's also very close to our hometown, so we could use it as a place to stay when we visit, instead of staying with the 'rents.

A guy just rang our doorbell.  I peaked out -- he was a stranger with a clipboard.  Neither B or I like dealing with solicitors (funny, since I used to do something like that for a time in 2008!), so we didn't answer the door.  Next thing I know, he's got his tape measure out, and he's taking pictures of our house.  Uhhhh....hm.  So B went out to talk to him.  He's from our insurance company, so it's all good.  It would have been really cool if our insurance company would have sent us a quick email letting us know that they were sending someone though!

Thanks! That's good input. Not a big steak fan, but I know XN would love that.

I don't want you to leave, but if you do,  I haven't been to a KC game yet? So I promise to come visit you. You must however find a good BBQ place to take us too. Big Smile

  • KC is terrible.  Their municipal signs are all written in comic sans.  They scoff at hybrid drivers, and there are no local places to frequent.  Music?  There is no good music. If any hint of Minnesota comes out, you are mocked.  Besides, you're just gaining your celebrity status after the Lip Dub...

Yeah, same here.  I don't know anything about KC.  I might be fabricating some of the above.

Okay, this is hilarious! And really, really sweet.

I am not counting any chickens here, ladies. It was just one phone conversation. Wink
