Tuesday Randoms

Ok so today marks the end of week 1 of tracking calories and working out.  The result?  1 lb gain.  Boo.

Oh well, I'm going to stick with it.  H says I look better, so maybe it was a muscle gain...

  • Heading to the farmers market with MIL soon. Too bad I stocked up on fruits & veggies & eggs in my errands yesterday... :z

I'm annoyed that tonight's forecast is "strong storms" just about the time we are usually at running group. Having been out of town for two weeks, I miss seeing my running friends!

Don't worry too much about the weight right now.  Focus on how you look and feel.  I'm sure if your H says you look better, you do!

A friend of mine didn't lose much weight after a month or two of regular working out/eating right, but she lost inches everywhere on her body and started to look a lot more toned.  She may have only lost a few pounds, but she looked great!

I need to get to the grocery store and stock up on fruits and veggies.

Hope the weather cooperates for you!

Thanks, I love my job. I am going along with a church from California who will be partnering with a church in Kabale (western Uganda, on the border with Rwanda) to do HIV and AIDS outreach. They financially support the work of that church and have a relationship with the pastor. The goal is mutual learning; how can a church help the poor in its community? The California church is heavily involved with local homeless ministry. It's neat to see what lessons can be learned cross-culturally.

We'll be there 2 1/2 weeks, meeting with the community leaders. Also a quick side trip to Rwanda to the genocide memorial and a game park.

I hear ya, it's hard to keep at it when you don't see the scale move. I know from past experience that if I just keep at it the scale will drop. Sometimes it seems like the more stubborn it's being the more the eventual drop. Especially in the first couple of weeks your body is probably like "hey, what's going on here?"

  • Trip to Uganda - Awesome

30wks PG - woo whoo almost there

Finger's crossed for a good head scan and then no more helmet. YAY!!

Talked to Coopersville HS yesterday and got most of SS classes set up. We just have to see which electives he is able to get in. His top choices were Metals, Woods, and Agriscience.

side note: While I was looking for the class course book I didn't see home ec listed anywhere. There is a health class and a nutrition class but no cooking or sewing.

I can't think of any school that still has Home Ec, or any school that had it when I was still in HS.  If cooking or sewing was offered, it was an after school program.  I think HE is a thing of the past.  Schools would rather focus on core things like math and science I think, because higher test scores on those things get schools better funding.

I took Home Ec in high school.  I don't remember sewing but we did a lot of cooking.  It was mostly a goof off class.  I had a lot of fun but didn't do a lot of the cooking - yay for group projects.  :)

And even harder when it moves the wrong way.  :)

  • Wendy - What a wonderful thing you're doing. :-)

Wop - Yay for free coffee and getting closer to a baby Wop.

D&M - As long as you're eating well, exercising regularly and feeling good - I wouldn't worry too much about the scale.  If in a couple weeks it's still up or going up, then it might be time to re-examine your current habits.

I am *this* close to purchasing a road bike, which I am very excited about.  It's just a big purchase so I have been doing a lot of test riding and research and even then I'll still probably be nervous about my final decision.

My Dad loves his road bike. I think he got it off nashbar.com

Have you stopped by Freewheeler over on Leonard to look at there selection?

I have heard that you can score good deals on nashbar.com - for gear and such too.

We have not visited Freewheeler - we've gone to Ada Bike Shop, Village Bike Shop and Kentwood Cycling and Fitness (more around our neck of the woods).  I think I have it narrowed to two that would work best for what I need, but I kind of want to test ride them both again before deciding.

What is a road bike?  Like a pedal bike?

  • I'm in a funk today and am not liking it.

  • We are hooking up to city water and sewer soon (we're actually about a month late!  oh well.)

We found a contractor/excavator to do it for $700 under the amount we had budgeted.   :::happy dance:::

Basically there are 3 kinds of bikes - a road bike, mountain bike and a hybrid (a combo of the two).  Road bikes have the skinnier tires, different handlebar set up, built more for speed and use on road or pavement.

Filing this away in my Learn Something New Everyday file.  Thanks.

Good luck on your bike. That reminds me, I need to get riding mine. I rode it a ton the first summer I got it but then have been kind of slacking off.

  • Chymes, I agree.  I used to go to Little Bohemia when it was next to the wig shop on Monroe.  Then it moved, and there were clothes, and then it was in the mall too.  Too much.  I wish her well, but I stopped buying beads from her a while ago.

Wendy, that's great stuff.  There was just an article out about looking at sexual power and issues (like rape and AIDS) differently.  Did you read it?  I know I'll never be able to find it again.    I know that you're excited about the food aspect of your trip too.

  • WOP - how did the glucose test treat you?

My professor had to turn in grades for us yesterday.  I just looked for mine on the online blackboard, and they're no more updated than they were 3 weeks ago.  Snarl.
