What do you think about the restaurant banning kids?
Re: What do you think about the restaurant banning kids?
Personally, I have no issue with this. Especially if we are talking about more of an upscale place.
Yes, there are kids who can & do behave. When I go out to eat with Cooper I take him to certain places - BJs Pizza, Chuy's, etc. I don't take him to Fleming's. I go to Fleming's because I want a toddler-free date night. My toddler...your toddler. Doesn't matter. There are times & places for kids...but I also agree that a 10pm movie is no place for a child either. I see that way too often.
This.
Crazy Christmas Kids!

I have no problemo with this. Period. People who whine about this kind of thing are being ridiculous.
No one under 15 is allowed at my spa. I love that.

SCORE!
Ditto. To the umpteenth power. Seriously, the movie thing gets me all the time. Speaking of movies Dh and I went to the movies on Sat afternoon (well it was 11:30am) and it was the movie Horrible Bosses and there were kids in there that were like 8-12yrs old... I was like what in the world. That movie was NOT appropriate for kids. Such is life.
So Tasty, So Yummy
I have no problem with it. Why would I go to a restaurant babies aren't allowed in? If they don't want me there I'm not going.
We have taken Olivia to Reef and to Perry's in Katy (there are tons of kids in the Perry's in Katy) however each time we have called and verified they allowed babies and if they didn't we wouldn't have went and saved it for a date night.
I don't have an issue with it either. They want a certain atmosphere, and if they have to ban young kids to do it, so be it. There's a place here that won't let kids in under 12. And it's not a fancy place at all. But they want it to be a quiet place where adults can come and relax. I'm all for it.
I think there are definitely restaurants that just aren't small child-appropriate.
I don't know that any restaurant in Katy would survive if they banned kids
I agree. My one requiremnt for our vacation to Mexico was Adult Only.
I agree. The fancy schmancy steakhouse at WDW bans kids under the age of either 12 or 13. I can't remember. I think if you are going to ban I'd go with an higher age.
Heck yes. It is one of the reasons I love Alamo Drafthouse for movies (aside than the proximity to my house)...kid free movies = wonderful in my book.
No problem for me at all. Their choice, and it wouldn't bug me. I wouldn't go if I didn't have a place to take her.
We're very conscious of where we take Viv, and pretty hyper-vigilent of calming her down if she starts freaking out, but some people aren't so careful.
I'm not sure I'd take her to Reef, but we take her to eat mexican food and to other more casual restaurants all the time.
They talked about this on the radio this morning. Some Height rest owner called in and said that he gets it - some people want a quiet restaurant for dinner. But he said that he could never do it because there are too many "yuppies" in the Heights that would cause his business to decline because they take their kids. It made me think of you - not that I'd call you yuppie but that you guys usually take your kids and I can see that being the norm in the Heights.
I completely agree. It's his business, if he wants it to be child-free, more power to him.

We went to see Transformers at 9:30pm Saturday night. And there were babies crying in there.... I never cease to be amazed by people.

I don't care what this restaurant owner does, it's his establishment and he can do what he wants. I guess right now I'm just jaded because it seems like anywhere that I take G we get ugly looks. We were eating at Chik-fil-a yesterday and he started a completely freakish tantrum, no warning at all. I got the ugliest looks from people, we were at CHIK-FIL-A! WIth a toddler playground! I got us out as soon as I could--but really? My child can't make noise at a place that caters to children? Am I just supposed to keep him in the house until he's 6? Ughhh.
My point is, I think some people are over sensitive to children. It's almost like they listen for any noise a child makes so they can turn around and stare. The restaurant owner probably got some complaints from some crabby pants and ran with it.
I was in a restaurant the other day and overheard an entire conversation from some chick with a really loud voice. I don't care that she lived in Hong Kong, I don't care that her sister is going to A&M and she's going to UT, I don't care that everyone she knows lives with their boyfriends---I could go on and on. I wish I could ban people like that from restaurants but I can't. Kids aren't the only annoying things at restaurants.
Phew that feels better.
I completely agree! DS1 threw a tantrum in Chick-fil-a a while back, and we got looks from some parents with their children! Like that's never happened to them. We left as soon as we could, but it's difficult with a toddler and infant to leave quickly...

I'm lazy. What is the true definition of a hispter because I was searching for swim attire the other day and saw hipsters everywhere. Somehow that mental picture just doesn't fit :-)
I'm okay with this guy calling his place "up scale." They showed it on the news and I laughed. I don't think we'd eat there anyway.
LOL!
Urban Dictionary Definition - Hipster
Real life example - the dude in a local (non Starbucks) coffee shop two winters ago that was wearing a vintage/hand knit/sure it cost more than $30 red beanie and got made when Marion kept calling him "ho-ho."
She thought he was Santa.
