I put coconut in my oatmeal this morning. It was really good.
Re: TGIF Randoms
We had our breastfeeding class last night. I left really disappointed. I didn't learn that much (most of what we were taught last night I already learned from our preparing for childbirth class), and I felt like it was more of a hospital sales/service/product pitch. For example, the instructor said that she didn't really like the Boppy for BFing because they're not big enough, she said it would be better to buy a special style BFing pillow they sell at the hospital. Um....no thanks. The hospital pillow might be better, but it's probably significantly more expensive. I also felt like the instructor favored women who planned on SAH or part-time working moms. I will be a full time working mom. I left feeling kind of guilty that I plan on going back to work full time because of this lady.
We had a breakthrough with Tennyson this morning. He saw a bird and instead of calling it a "doggie!" he called it a "birdie!".
Now if only we could get him to stop calling every fruit a banana.
That really sucks that they made you feel that way! Completely unprofessional and unrealistic in this day and age. Don't let them get you down -- working moms rock!
He sounds so fun and adorable.
At my childbirth class, I could have felt very guilty about choosing to formula feed. According to the instructor my child had no chance of thriving or succeeding in life and FF parents were going to spend $10,000 a year in formula (ok, so I'm going a bit overboard, but you get the point.) I chose to walk out of there without a guilt trip. There are so many things you will do as a parent that other people can make you feel guilty about, however you can't let it get to you. Because if you did "A", people will make you feel guiltily about not doing B and if you were doing "B" then the "A" people would make you feel bad.
I will say that if you run into any issues with BF, not to hesitate to call Baby Beloved. I have heard many many wonderful things about them. If you are having any issues with latching or anything else in the beginning, call them for a consultant. The sooner you address the issue, the better chance you have a succeeding.
My boss has left for vacation and is gone through next week.
ETA: That makes me in charge around these parts.
Fun!
Diana (if you are awake) - do you have any recommendations for nice spa's around the resort in Myrtle Beach? This is going to be a total treat-me-trip.
How were the movies?
Good Morning Friends!
Today is my parent's 34th wedding anniversary. I email my Dad at work last night to make sure he would remember. I got a message this morning stating that he had forgotten. Also later this afternoon or evening my BFF from NJ will be arriving for a 2 weeks stay before she is to show for camp/training for DL Air force reserves.
Side questions: Kind of got me think as you girls were talking about school and going back to school. I think we may have discussed this before but...
Of those of us that have a degree is it needed for your current position and do you use any of your college training at all?
I wonder if Mira is having a baby...
For me, the answer is yes to both.
Deeder, that's sweet of you to remind your dad of his anniversary. Have fun with your friend!
Thanks MB. I know exactly what you're saying, and you're right. I was just diappointed I guess that I didn't feel like they were very supportive of working moms. I had to initiate all the questions (at the very end of the class) about pumping while at work, building a supply, switching to a bottle, etc. IMO these are topics that should be covered during the regular class in this day and age.
I think I need to seek out a good BFing support group. Thanks for the rec!
You are a good daughter.
Almost everyone in my department has a bachelor's degree. But obviously, you do not need it to work here. The job market jut sucks, and that is why I have been hesitant to return to school for the past few years. Almost seems like there's no point...
Haha! Poor Mira. I bet she gets that alot.
I have 2 degrees in marketing from Davenport. At my current position, they don't help at all. I also have state licenses in insurance = those help with my position. I so need to find something that will let me use both or to do marketing because that's what I want to do.
That is sucky....Sometimes people that help people need a reality check before they help people.
Talk to GRSP....I think she would be a very good resource for you. Even though I FF, I saw that she had a good balance of "if you want to BF, I will be the most supportive friend and resource I can be. If you don't/can't/want to stop I will still be a supportive friend." Plus she pumped while working.
Sounds like a great day! Glad to hear that your new employees are working out well.
Well, I have officially tired every damn old wives tale (well except castor oil). Darn it is all I can say.
Wop, Sorry your BF class was a flop. While my BF was great the other child birth class were a huge joke. Does your hospital have lactation consultants? I plan to ask for one as soon I am possible can. (that is if I ever give birth)
As for feeling guilty. I have learned when it comes to pregnancy, child birth, feeding, etc. some people (not all) will attempt to make you feel guilty for making choices different then their own.
Stupid Nest burp.
My sister tried castor oil, and it was a no-go. Hehe.
What is on your agenda for today? Still doing the daily mini goals that GVSU suggested?
Yeah with all the other old wives tales, if they didn't work oh well no biggie. But no thank you to spending the day in the bathroom and not getting a baby out of it.
As for today's agenda. I don't know. Just waiting for the H so we can go for a daily walk. He took this week off work, silly man thought baby would arrive this week. I'd like to do things like get a hair cut or a pedi, but I feel too bad leaving H since he is the one blowing his vaca time.
Wow, sounds like an awesome day. Have fun!
I think you need to go get a pedi and a haircut! And don't feel bad.
Don't feel bad! Go get that pedi girl! He can get one too!
