Re: Wednesday Randoms
Omg that is absolutely horrible.
Wow, how very sad.
I get why this makes you hesitant, and I'm the first person to make the case for a childfree life, but I don't think you should let a tragedy like this make the decision for you. Holding back on your life because of bad things that could potentially happen keeps you from so much joy.
My matrix is complete. I'm glad he suggested it, though, because I was wondering how I would compare the prices and decide what to get.
The issue is that I'm going almost completely new. I'm being really picky about not wanting any highlighting or margin notes for my 1L books just because I'll be learning new study techniques. I want to set myself up with the best possible chance for success. If I can find a seller with positive feedback who states their book has no highlighting or margin notes, I'll go used, but that typically saves a whopping $30. With luck, I'll be able to sell them at the end of the year for half what I paid.
I've been offline all day. I just peeked in, and there's so much here.
Right now, I just have a minute to share (for Suze) that I've had some success with renting books that I know I won't keep for my program. Most of the time they come in pristine condition, but I've had one come with highlights. Just another avenue for books that wasn't very popular a few years ago.
This is so true. Thank you. It's right, and I need to hear it. Because this is something I do too often, in a lot of areas of my life.
No need to apologize. That's great to hear that your friends are handlnig this as well as they are. Sometimes the strength of people amazes me.
That makes sense.
This! God forbid anything happen to T, but no matter what happens I wouldn't trade him for anything. Ever.
And this is really great advice.
Hmm, interesting idea. I might post about it on the admitted students FB page to see if any of the upper division students tried this during their 1L year.
And I realized I flubbed the sum formula in excel and double added several things from my matrix. The actual total is close to $400 less than I originally thought.
You don't know how hard it was for me not to aggressively recruit you for the no-kids club.
Fortunately Stingy McStingerson, oops, I mean my darling husband is on board with this plan.
Now...to convince him that a case of wine in our cellar is necessary for me to retain the scholarship...
H asked me what I wanted for my birthday again, and I just asked him to bake me a cake. Apparently, that is not good enough for him.
I don't know why I have issues picking something out. It's frustrating. But we all know, based on past experiences, that this man must be told something or I'll end up with steering wheel covers.
I guess I'll just ask for a giftcard. B&N, ***'s or iTunes...
That would make a difference!
Tee hee hee... steering wheel cover.
I often have a hard time asking for gifts too. You're not alone.
Hahaha. This is hilarious.
Do you want anything for your new bike? Mike put a rack on the back of my bike so I can use a trunk bag on it. It has been really handy.
That is funny. D!ck's Sporting Goods...
Ooh! Great idea!!! I already have a rack, so maybe I should ask for a trunk bag!
And one of these:
What's really sad is how little difference it makes.
The real total is ~$1K, instead of ~$1400.
Blech. That sucks! But it will be worth it!!!
:-O Yikes. For one semester?!? That's just crazy.
Juli, I've been able to have some really candid conversations with some of the Special Olympics parents. One of them said something that really stuck with me. She said that it's been a terribly rough road for their family after their daughter was born with significant physical and mental disabilities. But, she said, the good moments have outdone all of the bad, and she wouldn't trade her situation if she could. Incredible.
There has been such great conversation here today. And I missed it live. *pouting* I really enjoy the blend of people here and the choices they represent.
Wow busy day here.
I spent the day on a pretty awful tubing trip in Newaygo. It was a last minute thing and thought no one checked the weather to notice that it was going to rain for pretty much the whole trip. Awesome! So I was cold, the water was cold and then 2 of the people decided to "play fight" which lead to them splashing the rest of us making us more cold. My BFF stayed wrapped in a towel the whole time. I want my next time to be warm like it has been in the past.
GRSP, the randoms don't expire until midnight if you still want to chime in.
Deeder, sorry you had a crummy day tubing. That sounds disappointing.
Diana, it didn't dawn on me that your books are that much for the semester. Wow!
