Good morning!
Happy Friday!
And happy last day of work, DianaPrince!
Re: Friday randoms
Thanks!
There's not a lick of work for me to do today. You'll be seeing a lot of me here
Good! It's soooo boring here on Fridays.
Noooooooooo! Not yet!!! I'm not ready for summer to be over.
I'm really disappointed. We had plans to go to Cedar Point in September. Then, the stupid NFL got their crap together and decided to have a season. Then, they decided to have the Bears opening day on the day we were supposed to be at the park. So now, H has cancelled on me.
On the positive side, H told me to look into renting us a lake house for a few days over that long weekend. I'm soooo excited. Anyone have any recs? I've briefly looked at VRBO.com so far.
LOL, corduroys (and "cool weather" fabrics in general like tweed) are one of the fashion rules I actually stick to. But I think if you just own it, who cares?
I'm also not ready for summer to be over. I have to say that fall is my favorite season, but I'm never in rush for it to get here. Last week we had a really cool night and when I woke up it had the late summer feeling.
It reminded me of when I used to show horses. The fair was always the week before school started back up (so mid-August) and it was my biggest show of the year. I remember the cool nights and mornings and hot days spent in dusty stalls and arenas. Such a nostalgiac time of year for me.
Molly, that's a bummer about the cancelled Cedar Point trip. You can't reschedule it for another weekend?
I've never rented a house in Michigan before. I am using Homeaway.com for one of our Hawaii rentals though. I've heard that renting in September in Michigan usually works out really well though, because the prices are lower after Labor Day, but the weather is typically still summery.
Hehe, sorry. This summer has been too damn hot for my northern blood.
I am wearing a summery top and open-toe pumps to balance the fall pants. Actually, I think my outfit looks pretty cute today, if I do say so myself.
That is a bummer about missing out on CP.
I have looked at both VRBO and HomeAway, but never rented. My XSIL did rent a cottage in South Haven that we stayed at a few years ago. It was actually for her first anniversary with BIL. It was called "The Lemon Slice" and it was super cute. It wasn't terribly fancy (3br, 1ba), but was clean, comfortable and a block walk to the beach and had views of the lake. It was about a 10 minute walk into town for bars and restaurants.
It sounds cute, but then you've worn cute outfits every time I've seen you.
Can I go back to bed please and still get paid?!
I've been listening to my CW *** about her nephews upcoming wedding. I guess the couple doesn't want to invite extended family, so CW and her family are in an uproar about it. It sounds like it is a large family with lots of cousins. And they don't want kids. The couple is in their 30s and paying for the wedding.
Get over it... It's a wedding, not a family reunion. It's not like first aunts and uncles and cousins are not being invited.
I'm so glad I was the fourth to get married in my family and my dad finally "got it" by the time I got married. He made my sisters invite his aunts and cousin to their wedding event though they paid for about 75% of the wedding themselves. I flat out told my mom that wasn't happening with ours. I don't know these people. My thought was if I had to go to any of our parents during the wedding to ask "who is that again?" the weren't being invited.
Aw, thanks!
That sounds amazing. Enjoy your vacation!
Des & Mol,
If you don't have a tent after this weekend, let me know. We might be selling our old one, as we got a larger one. I will say that I think it is a 6 person tent, however there is no way you could put 6 in it. However, if you think you will be a family of four in the semi-near future, you may want to hold off for a larger one. Although, we will probably sell ours for so cheap, that it might be good enough to tide you over until you need something larger.
Whoo hoo. Lucky you.
I think I found a contender. Thoughts?

That sounds like a blast, have fun!!
Molly, I'm pretty sure that is the same lake that my nephew's cousins live on! We have been to their house several tmes and out on the lake in their pontoon boat. It's a nice lake, but I think more suited to boating and water sports than swimming--it doesn't really have a nice stretch of sand if that's what you're looking for.
The house itself looks nice.
Just looking for a place to chill on a pontoon boat, fish, canoe, have camp fires...
LVila, have an awesome vacation! It sounds like it will be a great time.
GVSUbride, wedding drama is no fun. My cousin is planning her wedding and my aunt is irritated that she hasn't been consulted enough, and my other cousin (the bride-to-be's brother) is irritated that they've apparently decided to have no wedding party at all. He said he's been campaigning for years to get that best man spot, and now the position has been eliminated and that's BS. He said it in a joking matter (and it was a pretty hilarious conversation), but I think he's only partially joking.
It sounds really nice! If it were me though, I'd look for something that has more non-owner submitted reviews.
I wouldn't understand that drama AT ALL
I feel for my nieces and nephews because everything has to be a big deal in my family. My sister is super anal and judgy if anyone tries to do anything "different". Heaven for bids if one of the 11 grandkids wants a destination wedding, or no cousins in the bridal party, or first cousins only in attendance (not their cousins kids or our cousins and their kids.)
We had a smaller, child-free wedding. No shame. We were footing the bill for most of it, so having a big wedding just wasn't something we were willing to pay for. I even put "Adult reception to follow" on my invitations. We may have pissed off some people with that, but I honestly don't care. I loved how our wedding day turned out, it was perfect. We didn't invite extended family either. First aunts/uncles and cousins was as far as we were willing to go, and that's because we see them on a regular basis. I guess a lot of Nick's family was upset they weren't invited, but I don't know why. I had never met the people we didn't invite and we dated for 5 years. If I've never met you, and H hasn't seen you in 5 years, why do you care?
I think it would be perfect for that.
I feel like I am jumping in "late"...there has already been so much!
Happy last day of work DP!!
Kasa...you rock it girl, I am sure you look great!
LVila....I am sooo jealous!
Molly...We have rented of VRBO and had good luck. The one we rented though would be way too big for just you guys though. The one you looked at looks nice, although a good point from Kasa about reviews.
Did I get everyone???
Uh oh. How come?
