3. Which sport is your favorite to watch? Least favorite?

4. Which team(s) is your least favorite?

5. Did you play any sports in high school or college?

6. Do you attend many athletic events? If so, which ones?

Re: Introductions/Poll!

  • 1. Where do you live and what do you/your husband do?

My husband and I live in Auburn, AL. I'm from Minnesota, he's from Iowa and we lived in southeastern North Carolina for a few years for his job before we moved to Auburn in '08. I work in undergraduate recruitment (marketing and comm) at a university and he's a coach at the same university.

    2. Which teams do you root for (college, pro, whatever) and why?

We both root for Auburn (obviously!) since we live here, work here and both love it to pieces. I'm also a huge Tarheel fan (went to school in NC) and I have to cheer for my home school University of Minnesota--even though there really isn't much to cheer about there. And I'm also a big UT fan. The only pro team I really follow closely is the Braves. I guess my favorite NFL teams would be the Falcons and the Colts. And now the Panthers, thanks to Cam ;)

    3. Which sport is your favorite to watch? Least favorite?

College football, hands down. Next favorite would be college baseball, college basketball. My least favorite to watch is soccer, NBA and NASCAR (if you consider that a sport).

    4. Which team(s) is your least favorite?

    Alabama, Iowa, Duke and Oklahoma.

    5. Did you play any sports in high school or college?

In high school I was a dancer (ballet and jazz mostly). I competed with my school and also with serveral studios. I was also a competitive gymnast for my school and a gym. And I played tennis. DH played college football.

    6. Do you attend many athletic events? If so, which ones?

Tons! A perk of living in Auburn and having free tickets through DH's job. We go to all home football games and a few away. We are going to the soccer game Friday but its the first one since being here. I go to all of DH's games that I can and also try to make it to lots of basketball and baseball games. Gymnastics meets, too, if we have time.

    7. What is your favorite sports moment that you were a part of/witnessed in person?

I wish I could say watching Auburn win the National Championship out in AZ this year but we were unable to go since we were in the middle of an IVF cycle. I'd probably say either the SEC Championship or rolling Toomer's after the Iron Bowl or the National Championship this year. It was an absolutely unbelievable experience to be downtown during those times!

    1. Where do you live and what do you/your husband do?

We live in New York City.  I do project management and DH works in collegiate athletics at a local D-I school

    2. Which teams do you root for (college, pro, whatever) and why?

Pro, we root for all Michigan teams (Pistons, Tigers, Lions, Wings) since we both grew up in Michigan.  I also love the STL Cardinals because we lived there for 4 years and it's really hard to not love the Cards after living there.  As far as college, we support Marquette (our alma mater), Michigan State (the school we rooted for growing up) and whatever college DH works at.  Because he gets paid to cheer for them Big Smile

    3. Which sport is your favorite to watch? Least favorite?

I love college football and basketball.  I don't get NASCAR.  I don't get it.

    4. Which team(s) is your least favorite?

    Notre Dame. Wisconsin.

    5. Did you play any sports in high school or college?

I swam.  I was recruited to swim at the college level but the idea of practicing 20 hours a week freaked me out at the time.

    6. Do you attend many athletic events? If so, which ones?

We attend a ton.  I go to just about every football and basketball game that DH has to work at, in addition to going to games that his friends are coaching at.  And once in a while we'll get comp tickets to pro sporting events too.

    7. What is your favorite sports moment that you were a part of/witnessed in person?

There are a few.... watching Marquette beat Kentucky to go to the 2003 Final Four was special (we also went to New Orleans to watch Marquette get destroyed by Kansas, so the game wasn't as fun, but the after was fun!).

Going to Villanova to watch St. John's play at the Wells Fargo Center and being in the first row was awesome, because we saw ourselves on ESPN (our friend got a really awesome screen grab of us behind the bench cheering on the Johnnies).

Oh!  Meeting and greeting the four Heisman Candidates this past December when they flew into NYC for the awards ceremony.  The four of them were so nice.

I swim because I'm too damned sexy for a sport that requires real clothing.

    7. What is your favorite sports moment that you were a part of/witnessed in person?

So many to choose from, but game 6 of the 2004 NLCS at Busch Stadium has to be the best. Tie game. Bottom of the 12th. Jim Edmonds came up to bat with a man on and jacked the biggest home run of his career, breaking the tie, winning the game, and forcing a game 7. We all knew it was gone the second the ball touched the bat. Thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. One of the highlights of my life.

My DH and his friend were at this game too!  He said that it is probably one of THE best baseball games he's ever been to in his life.  They were up in the corner in the outfield so they couldn't quite tell if it was in or not, but when everyone started jumping up and down and cheering, they knew it was in.  I wish I could have gone, but I had to work late that night, so I caught it at a bar with another friend, and the bar went NUTS.  It was awesome.

That's so crazy! Yeah, we were in the bleachers and I spent the top of the 10th-12th with my head in my hands. The pressure was so intense. I was so scared that the bullpen was going to give it up. Julian Tavarez I believe pitched the top of the 12th with a broken hand from going apeshiit on a cooler in Houston. The media was so entranced by what the Red Sox were doing in NY that they completely ignored the Cards/Astros series which was itself rather amazing. We have a picture of Jim Edmond's reaction to that home run framed on our mantle. Epic.

  •  I'm all sorts of late, I know...but I want to answer anyway. :)

    3. Which sport is your favorite to watch? Least favorite? Fave to watch is either college football or NBA. Least favorite is probably golf or baseball.

It was my senior year at OSU, and we hadn't won a Homecoming game my entire college career. AND, a guy I went to HS with was playing on the K-State team and had bragged about how they were going to beat us. Ah...it was awesome.

  • This is a good idea.  This is actually the only Nest board I ever post to anymore!!  So I want to get to know you girls.

    1. Where do you live and what do you/your husband do?
My husband Wes and I live in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.  Wes is a locksmith, and also works part-time for UPS (for the benefits, mostly.  Holy cow - great benefits.)  I work for a Christian non-for-profit that aids senior citizens to obtain affordable housing.

    2. Which teams do you root for (college, pro, whatever) and why?
My passion lies with the Chicago White Sox.  (Unfortunately, my husband's passions lie with the Chicago Cubs.  It's awkward when my team beats his without mercy during crosstown games.  Ha.)  We are also avid Bears and Blackhawk fans.  The husband follows college football much more than I do.  His team is up in Ann Arbor... gooooo Blue!

    3. Which sport is your favorite to watch?
I can watch any Major League Baseball game with ease.  The best thing to ever happen to our family was the MLB Network.

    Least favorite?
    Basketball.  Sorry.

    4. Which team(s) is your least favorite?
Yanks, Red Sox, and Minnesota.  Minny moreso because we can never seem to get out of our own heads enough to beat them.  It's maddening.
    Green Bay Packers.
    Vancouver Canucks.

    5. Did you play any sports in high school or college?
I did, thank you for asking!  I've been a ball player my whole life.  (Er - I WAS.  Until I got old and fat.)  Started in-house, moved to travel ball, excelled in high school (can I brag? I was all-state.), scholarship to a semi-reputable university program on the south side of Chicago.  I miss it terribly.

    6. Do you attend many athletic events? If so, which ones?
Back before I got married and had to spend my money on grown-up things, I was a partial season ticket holder for the Chicago White Sox.  Now, the husband and I usually attend a few ballgames a year on both sides of town.  What a dutiful wife I am!  Bear and Hawk games are usually sprinkled in there, one every year or two.  They're much more expensive, and we're pretty cheap. :P

    7. What is your favorite sports moment that you were a part of/witnessed in person?
    I've got two:
    - I was at Game 2 of the ALCS at The Cell in 2005, the year we won the series.  You might remember this as the "drop third strike" game.  (A.J. Pierzynski, Doug Eddings... ringing any bells?) I don't think I've ever heard anything as loud as when Joe Crede hit one off the left field wall after that call.
-The other was last year.  I was at Game 3 of the Western Division Finals in 2010 (the year we took the Cup!)  Hawks played the Sharks, and won 3-2 in OT.  Again, you've never heard anything louder.  Remember the Roar!!
