Chit Chat Friday

I'm so happy it's Friday! Honestly, it's crazy how happy I am. I can't wait for the weekend.

We have a 1 year old birthday party this weekend for one of DH best friend's kid. DH suggested I ask them if they need help for the party, I was planning on asking anyways, so I texted her last night. Now I'm the camera lady! Becareful what you asked for. I was hoping it was something like help set up before people arrived, now I have a job for the whole party...

  • Leslie - They just teased on fox4 news about making smores cakeballs.  They have someone showing how to do it after the break.  Yum, sounds delicious!

I had an AW yesterday and totally forgot to say it!  DH just got a job offer for one of the major airlines!  He has been wanting to work for them for years as they have an awesome reputation of being an great company to work for.  Plus, we now get to fly for free!  Yay!

  • Deepthi, that sucks that you have an all day job but they must trust you to give you camera duty.

    Michelle, thats awesome.

Chelsea, how did your shoot go yesterday?  You hair and makeup looked gorgeous.

I am seriously thinking about going back to my old ways of eating when I was in Nebraska, which was limiting unnatural sugars and meat/dairy consumption.  I really enjoyed it once I got enough tried and true recipes and it gave me so much more energy.  I only stopped because when we moved in with the in-laws it became a point of arguements then I just never got back into my stride once we moved because there was so much stress.

  • Good morning! Have a happy Friday!!

BL - How did you get into a diet like that?  It sounds really interesting.

Thank you! The shoot was, as expected, tough. In the future, I'd rather just model for someone who knows what they're doing, or train someone who doesn't.... not try to do both at the same time. That said, he took direction VERY well, and we were able to teach him a lot, and he was grateful. And it looks like the collection is going to turn out really solid. He's coming out to the studio on Monday to go through the images all together, but I know for a fact that there's one shot of Mack that made me catch my breath. SO good, and I can't wait for people to see it.

My biggest issue? Dear GOD I felt fat. Like, so so so fat. I looked in the mirror and felt gorgeous, and loved my hair and makeup, and then looked at the pictures on the back of the camera and felt like a whale. That disconnect was really troublesome to me. I know some of it was inexperience in angles and lighting, but ugh... I cried all the way home. It was really hard.

  • I am also ecstatic that it's Friday.  I'm really close to finishing something work-related, so it'll be nice to have nothing really pressing on my plate.  I'll still have lots to do, but nothing as pressing as my current project.  That means that I'll be relatively stress-free this weekend - just in time for a play day with my sister!  We're spending the first half of the day tomorrow working on some projects at my house (ahem, chair reupholstery that I started months ago), then workout/lunch/swim, then off to her house for some of her projects.  We're finishing the day with smoked ribs, cooked by my awesome BIL, and my brother and SIL are coming over for that part.  Oh, and James is picking up the antique armoir that I bought last weekend... tomorrow is going to be an amazing day.  I am still so happy to have changed jobs to one where I don't have to work so much on the weekends!!  Big Smile

BL - How did you get into a diet like that?  It sounds really interesting.

My personal trainer from Nebraska was great and got me into it.  He believes in mostly plant based with limited meat/dairy, sugar, and chemicals.  I started reducing in small steps so it wasnt such a drastic change.  First I upped my plant intake, then cut down on meat/dairy (not eliminate but drastically reduced compared to the normal american) then cut out sugar whenever possible.  It was kind of crazy because shortly after eliminating meat/dairy I quit craving sugar and I used to be a something sweet every.single.day kind of gal and I just didnt want it anymore.  Oh yeah and I was able to eliminate caffiene because I had so much natural energy, I was working out harder and recovering faster (and dropping weight) better than ever before.

I still eat relatively healthy but my meat/dairy and sugar intake is way higher than it was.

If you are interested in any of this I strongly recommend reading In Defense of Food by Michael Pollen it will really open your eyes and make you think about your food choices.

That's awesome, congrats!   I can't wait to hear your first "flying for free" story.   It makes for um, interesting, memories more often than not.  =)

Yay cake balls! I actually had a cake-tastrophe last night regarding cake balls, my milk chocolate seized up and I have no idea why. I was able to fix it and they turned out fine but I hate when stuff like that happens.

Chelsea - you looked so pretty last night. I have the same problem with pictures. I feel like a rock star and then feel sad when I see them. It's one of the reasons I chickend out on b-pics. I would offer advice but I have nothing other than the fact that you looked awesome and you are your own harshest critic.

Yay for being almost done Angie!

    Yay for airline jobs!

    Yay Friday!

That sucks that the look wasnt translating as well on film.  That was honestly why we werent 100% sold on the idea of engagements because I will love how I look in person than it just doesnt translate to the photo but you proved that all it takes is a good photog to give good direction.  I cant wait to see the pics and really if he learned something from the project and you get one breath taking picture from it then it may have been worth it.  I am sorry it caused you to cry though thats never fun but seriously from the pic on facebook I cant see how it would look bad.

  • Michelle - Congrats to your husband on the new job!
  • Sara - Congrats!!

Chelsea - Yea I felt the same way about some of our engagement pictures, but I'm still glad we took them. There are even some wedding pics both DH and I look at and say we wish we lost a more wieght. I'm sure they are fine and you're definitely not use to being on the other side of that camera.

  • Leslie, all your Yays! just really cracked me up.  I love this board Smile
  • Thanks ladies. I know it's partly just in my head, but still hard to shake. I know that Mack at least took one picture of me that I LOVE. The hair/makeup/styling that Meg did was really great, so I'm glad to have one where I really feel like I pulled off the character the photog was looking for. Whew. We'll see. It'll all be blogged next Friday, so hopefully by then I'll be over this feeling of, "Ugh, they're all awful, BURN THEM!" :)

Thanks!  I do eat relatively healthy, but I'm not on a strict diet by any means.  I'd say that I probably lean more toward a high protein/low-ish carb and portion control diet.  I've tried cutting out carbs to a bare minimum, but my body did not respond well to it.  I'm always looking for something that could be a good change and add some variety to keep me from stalling out.

  • Do any of you read Cracked.com articles? I swear, no matter what kind of crappy morning I'm having, knowing that there will be some sort of hilarious ridiculousness posted there at 8:30 a.m. will get me through it!

I had to go back to yesterday's thread to find out what you were talking about (at first I thought someone literally wouldn't photograph unattractive people and was a little horrified) and I love it.

Bullying is a huge hot-button issue for me, and I wasn't even teased growing up. I've just seen the consequences it's had on people that were bullied as children. If nothing else ... I want my future children to be kind and sensitive.

@Bobbileigh -- I'm actually intending to start a low-sugar diet very soon. My coworker recently resumed hers and is feeling SO much better, so she convinced me to buy the same book she uses (The Belly Fat Cure).

Bullying is huge for me too.  I moved schools my freshman year and had a pretty horrible experience with a nasty girl, but I still ended up relatively popular and un-bullied too, but my heart aches for bullied kids.  I honestly want to defend every last one of them and befriend them.  Cadence is VERY sensitive to it, which is a blessing.  It disgusts me and I hate how awful it's gotten.  I applaud the photographer.

  • Y'all it's looking like the Knot over here today with the slowness. Let's talk about things...anything.

What's for lunch? What are you doing this weekend? What are you excited about in the next couple of weeks?

P.S. Chelsea - I saw the pic you posted on FB - you looked awesome. Stop giving yourself such a hard time!

  • I'm having a cupcake dilemma.  :)  I am helping to host a baby shower tomorrow and the person in charge of the cupcakes is 9 months pregnant and was just put on bed rest today.  So... she will not be making any cupcakes. I need Italian Creme cupcakes and my usually bakery (Cakes Amore) only has 10. I need 24.  I am about to call Society bakery - the only other bakery I can find in Dallas that makes Italian Creme cupcakes.  But, holy cow I'm scared about how much they will charge.

No, I don't want a 15 year old to do it, either.  ;)

Lunch is a larabar.  Tomorrow I am going to the farmers market as usual, laying out while starting the book club book and studying.  My bday is coming up in a couple weeks as well as my yearly review (I cant believe its been a year!)

Thanks so much. I think I've figured out part of the problem... the first dress I wore was too small, and the second dress was too big. BOTH made me look bigger than I think I "really" am. For that picture that's my new profile, I used one of my hands to hold the dress bunched up behind me, so it showed my waist. That helped IMMENSELY. I'm feeling better about the whole situation now. Not blaming myself... blaming the clothes. :)

The next two weeks are actually going to be pretty cool for us, because they're going to offer rare opportunities to spend time with friends. We saw "Planet of the Apes" with friends earlier this week, and next week I'm having dinner with girlfriends, going to a Rangers game with the kids and some friends from Louisiana, and watching the UFC fight on Saturday with a different set of friends. It's good for my soul. :)

  • My weekend?

Oy.  Today marks the start of my crazy weekend.    Busy at work, staging a houdini act at lunch because I have to be somewhere else for a few hours (seriously, wardrobe change and all), coming back, catching up.    Tonight:  baking the red velvet cake for the cake pops for Sunday.

Tomorrow: Going to Texoma to take my dog to my parents (Vegas next weekend, yea!) and getting my hair cut.... and completing the cake pops.

Sunday:  Co-hosting the wedding shower for my cousin

I'm going to NEED a vacation after the next 3 days are over.

Yep.  It's an italian themed baby shower.  :(

  • After a good dinner and a great date night last night, I am starting to crawl out of my funk.  Sorry I have been MIA.

My best girlfriends all arrive in town next Friday for our annual girls weekend.  It couldn't come at a more perfect time.  I just wish it was a little cooler, but you can't win them all.

Remember awhile back when I was asking about accent tables?  I did buy one and it has been sitting in my living room with nothing on it and the price tag still dangling from the front.  Well, after finding out I get to host book club next month, it has set me in motion!  I ordered pictures, plan to purchase frames tonight and have purchased some wall decor to hang over the table.  I am looking forward to having that "project" complete this weekend.  I hope it turns out as great as the picture in my head.
